Plot

Imagine a society where crude vulgar men and women rule. Death is commonplace amongst the people of this land, and many just carry on their existence waiting to be erased from the book of life. The gods cannot help them for the heavens too have been thrown asunder into chaos. The ideology that mankind's fate lies in the hands of the gods has been thrown out the window. Imagine a time long after the Battle of the Lost Blade where a dark, and cynical emperor empowers corrupt kings and queens to lay waste to the once beautiful lands of Peristal, and rules with an iron fist. Where ones power, and military force make the foundations of kingdoms quake in their wake. The few who have stood their ground died a horrible death, and those who stand for freedom are commonly placed as dead men, or outcast.

Once a year, however, for one week at the end of winter, the Festival of Lights is thrown by the lower classes of Peristal to entertain the upper classes. Travelers come from all over the continent to witness this brief time of merriment. Entertainers and vendors of all sorts roam the streets of the city throughout the week, but the most anticipated arrival is that of a special troupe of performers known as the Bohemians, who end the festival with the final performance and is led by a mysterious young woman who is only known by the name Lapis.

Of course you know the tale of how our world came to be, and perhaps you think this plot takes place in the aftermath of such a horrible bloodstained history. No my friend, for there you would be mistaken. I shall tell you a story of when the keepers of the magic were almost wiped from the planet as we know it. I shall tell you of a time when war, and chaos were common placed amongst the land's of Gi, and those who ruled the land were those of power, and those who hungered for more of it...These very people were called warlords, kings, queens, whatever it be, they were ruthless murderers that sought nothing more than power. Some of those men, and women were content with the rule of a certain territory, or the gaining of a certain artifact, but others still wanted more...I shall tell you of the 100 year war that had many men and women's blood spilt only to deem the Crimson Plains they're name. I shall tell you of the Battle of the Lost Blades between the four mighty kingdoms, Peristal, Jaroah, Damasses, and Kiracus Minor. So no my friend...this story does not take place after such a horrific history...but during it...So no, this is not a story of friendship, but more like a story...of tragedy.

Rules

1: We only have an allotted amount of slots for people in each role-play due to not wanting to have someone join, and totally be forgotten, or ignored. I have went through measures to explain certain things to my crew, so that they can ensure you do come into the plot at one point or another. Things may undoubtedly change though b/c there are several role-plays going at a time, but first I must find someone worthy enough to lead one for all of you.

2: Read the basic rules on the main page, its simple enough. If you feel like you cannot abide by these rules, then I or another crew member will happily assist in booting you out of our guild.

3: Your character may become a major plot device for the next plot in time, so if you receive a message stating that we need you, then feel greatly flattered. I warn all of you though...be ready to lose a character or two. This role-play is a long one, and characters will undoubtedly die, from wounds, to all types of things, so be open to ideas.

3 1/2: Okay everyone, no one starts off super strong with magic. Read the guidelines within the world forum, and you will understand exactly what I mean, and how to advance with the magic ranks.

4: I absolutely hate good role-play's put on hold for someone's personal life...so if you are going to start one up...especially in this forum...do have the time of day to help move the plot. Now I am not much of a post nazi here yet, b/c I do understand things happen sometime...my wife has kidney failure, so I understand the implications of s**t falling out of the sky, and hitting you in the face at the worst possible time. I will understand, and be willing to work with you if you give me a heads up...then I will think of someway to sidetrack the role-play, or we might go on without you. The most I can honestly give you though is one post every two to three days, so don't disappoint me, or we'll go on without you, remember, it isn't just you and I role-playing, there are probably many others your holding up.

5: Just have fun people, its the most I can really ask of you. You are all considered my dear friends. This isn't a job, its more of a hobby to me, so please don't make this any more stressful on myself, than it would be on you.

Keepers of the Magic Types

.Light: This keeper is said to be the strongest amongst the crew, his only equal would be darkness.

.Dark: Draws its power from the torment of one's soul.

.Holy: Specializes in healing magic, and can destroy undead.

.Illusion: This keeper is a master of deception, and can manipulate fog, and even shadows to a small extent.

.Shadow: This keeper can manipulate the shadows.

.Wind: A very dangerous keeper indeed with the ability to manipulate the very winds themselves.

.Lightning: Another dangerous keeper, beware if your fighting this guy in a storm.

.Red Flame: A very strong flame that burns hotter with the emotion of the keeper.

.Metal: This keeper is a rare one indeed. He holds dominion over all metals.

.Ice: This keeper can manipulate water and ice to his own liking.

.Earth: A very powerful wielder of earth. This keeper cannot be defeated when upon the ground being that he draws his power from it.

Other Magic in the world of Gi

Ether: this is used by many types of mages, sages, etc. They reside of the use of spells and enchanted items. Its source is unknown, but Theoretically diverted from a parallel dimension. The most common use of Ether is to control natural mana without the natural ability to use mana. (ex: guide lightning bolts, or make something float, even change something's shape) Some of the earliest known Ether users were Shamans, Wizards, Witches and Warlocks.

Spellblade: Using a weapon as a medium, Spellbade attacks can enhance or empower a weapon with special effects. (Ex: poison, featherweight, icebrand) Unfortunately, unlike Magiblade, where the power is in the weapon; this art completely depends on the user and will drain fast if the battle persists. It also cannot produce an attack outside the weapon's range or physical structure.

Summoning: The ancient art of summoning at a more scientific look is basically the art of using Ether transfered through dimensions to open portals by "ripping" the theoretical transfer tunnel. The beings brought over are rendered obedient ONLY to the summoner, or someone with immense Ether control. (who can overpower the summoner's control.) This is most likely due to the passing of the rip causing a mental link to the summoner. Though Ether is used to summon, The creature is almost always a mana caster. (Usually an Elemental)

Ki/Chi: this is easier to attain compared to others. It is the energy diverted from one's own power. It has many different names, like chi energy for example. It flows throughout our bodies and can be gained through rigorous training. It is good for firing powerful yet rapid distance attack; Improving physical attributes of one's own body such as strength/speed; and it may enable levitation without the use of levia-magic, materials, or wings. The drawback is that one must have a physical body to use Ki. The effects of using Ki/Chi will leave you physically drained, and vulnerable. (Elementals, they cannot use Ki either)

Jutsu: One of the main goals for a ninja is to master "Jutsu's". Techniques passed on by dojo's, family lines, villages, and reagons. The most common term for learning it is to manage "Chakra". Broken down, Chakra appears to be a combination of the basics of Ki/Chi and Ether. Fighting Techniques depend on Ki/Chi for extreme speeds and power. Special techniques depend on Ether for tricks such as fire breath, sinking underground, and other various signature moves. Spell Jutsu's also realy on Ether and usually a scroll for use of summoning and such. But Both must be trained at the same time to function Chakra properly. Not much else is known at the moment, other then the fact that Jutsu users may be flexible in this feild, but suffer in terms of power against those who specialize in a single mainstream of magics.

Mana: this energy resides in all living things and spiritual essence. Without it, nothing would live. Many beings can use it, like elementals and dragons for example. Each living thing has 1 or more elemental mana relation. The only draw-back is that the ability to use Mana is hereditary only, You must be born with the ability, or it cannot be learned. The one exception is Mana conversion using Ether spells or runic devices.

Magi blade: this extremely rare Mana based technique can only be used by spirit weapons. Its power is normally elemental and divided into 3 levels of energy, but It takes a large amount of training be skilled enough to Increase the effect and power of the weapon. The use of Magi blade is a combination of one's concentration, practice, and the spirit's energy within the blade. Without the spirit weapon as a medium, the non-elemental Mana energy is not converted, which results in either a failed attack, or the attack does not have either advantages or disadvantages of a specific element.

Alchemy: This science-based art can manipulate matter into transmuting it to other objects, shapes, or forms. though not everyone can use it, even less can attain a high rank of having a signature sub-name. This skill is based on the ability to understand, decompose, and reconstruct physical matter. Though there are many variations to what can be done with Alchemy, very important laws exist as well, such as forbidding transmutations on living beings. The use of Alchemy is done through an Alchemy circle, or for those who used the forbidden transmutation, just simply clap their hands together and use their own body as the medium. Theoretically, the Alchemy "energy" that is required to perform the acts is drawn in from spiritual essences around the user the same way Mana and Ether does; Which this link had lead to the discovery of Alchemana.

Alchemana: Discovered by Adilaris himself, Alchemana is reserved for only those capable of Mana and advanced Alchemy. The technique requires almost total concentration, but allows the use to instantly create an alchemic circle using raw elements around them, gathered and formed through mana control that forms into an "Alchemana disk" in the user's hand. The significant difference from normal Alchemy, is that Alchemana will de-construct, then reconstruct the properties of a Mana attack/ability rather then a physical object. This technique is a high risk move during battle due to the amount of focus it requires, and is a heavy drain to those depending on their own source of Mana. Because of its Mana base, It is theoretically possible to combine with a Magiblade attack.

Blood Magic: This magic is one of the dark magics forbidden within the lands of Gia for not only its power, but also for the drain it has on the human body. To use this magic one must give blood, and they are able to summon, cast, or manifest; creatures, spells, weapons.

Spellsongs: Though some require the use of Ether or Mana, most Spellsongs are a unique type of magic all their own. A Spellsinger's fundamental power is derived from releasing and magnifying magical energies buried within musical resonance. Perhaps one of the most subtle magics, and certainly one of the easiest to disguise, Spellsongs can touch almost any other magic type, and can be tailored to anything from illusion to conjuration. However, they tend to not work well with dark magics or necromancy for reasons even the masters of the craft can only theorize about.

Psychomanipulation: In short, this can be condensed to "illusion-ism" This particular type of ability is to create a mental link to another being and actually influence how the subject's brain is processing the information the senses give to it. Such effects can be hallucination, feeling things that aren't touching them, or even convince the brain that the subject is dying. The level of how this is used is completely determined of how strong the mentality of the user is. Almost in all studied conditions, people who are capable of psychomanipulation are those who are using parts of the upper brain that a normal being of their kind doesn't, and even has slight differences in the cerebral cortex's dynamics. Some of this ability can be combined with Ether for additional effects.

Telepathy (Telekineses): Another brain-oriented ability. Unlike psycho manipulation that controls the mental state of a being, Telepathy expresses control on physical matter. Theoretically, this happens when a part of the upper level of the brain can produce a 'brain-wave' of such complexity that space/time is effected as well. This however, is controlled at a subconscious level the user couldn't control directly, but is able to use by 'thinking' of moving the object in question... like an automated bodily control much like what keeps things breathing without thinking about it, but we can also control the rate we breath when we do. Telepathy as also proven to be mixable with Mana, which allows for very creative ways of using it. The drawback, as with psycho manipulation, is that too much usage can lead to the user to instantly fall unconscious.

Prophecy: The power of a true prophecy is very hard to obtain, though it has been rumored that someone has found a way to create false prophecies and use them to empower certain people. The power of prophecy is fickle, only working when certain conditions are met. Often these conditions are obscure and unknown, leading to many people having no idea that they even possess such powers. All of this falls by the wayside when the powers come into effect. They are generally extremely potent, rivaling even the most powerful keepers of magic. Some symptoms of those under the effect of prophecy include random flashes of insight that may or may not make sense, and a drive to accomplish an undetermined goal.

Okay folks not everyone here can't be a homeless bum, going about slaying dragons, and demons, and stuff...sooooo I've collected a list of occupations for everyone to enjoy...(at least until someone complains about something). Remember these are just a general idea of occupations, if you want more...well there's always the suggestion sub forum hehe.

Merc: Well these guys are you standard mercenary type deal. Now don't get them confused for an assassin, these guys hunt people wanted by the law for a certain...fee.

Assassin: Bloodthirsty killers with the soul intent of ending someone's life for a price. People are either crazy to be in this profession, or had no choice, but to kill for a living...HEY don't knock it till you try it buddy, big bro's been trying hard to support us!!!

Bartender: C'mon...you serve drinks, and get people drunk.

Inn Keep: These people usually do the same job as the bartenders, but they also run a little inn on the side to keep the money constantly flowing. Plus they keep the drunks off the streets...thank the gods I don't drink.

Researcher: Okay...basically the name says it all. These are the real brainy guys/gals, who are fascinated by something...that which you are interested in should be stated in the occupation. Ex: Crystalia researcher.

Knight: Well knights come from all type of kingdoms, so make sure to state which kingdom your from if you do choose this occupation.

Priest: Hey, hey, hey! These aren't the same priest that touch little boys okay! These guys are worshipers of the goddesses, and gods...make sure to state which goddess or god you worship if you choose this occupation.

Chef: They cook the yummies 4laugh

NPC's

As we all know NPC's are basically non-playable characters, which in my guild means...they are only played by myself, and the few select crew whom I deem worthy enough to play these characters. Now...here they are.

Emperor Matashira: His bloodline has been said to have been in control of the throne for hundreds of years. He has never been seen, nor has he even been heard. His power is unmatched due to his unique control over illusions, dark magic, and shadow magic. He is as elusive as the Dark Hand itself, and has been even rumored to be part of that very group. Some say that the current emperor has been alive from the very beginning, and had no bloodline, others say that he is an omen upon the land, but all know that to oppose Matashira meant certain death due to his vast military power, along with others powers whom shall not be named.

Mae-tal: A member of an elite squad of assassins within the Dark Hand known as the "Untouchables," who was specially assigned to guard the dark god incarnate on the planet Gi. He is a keeper of the magic with the ability to control metal. All who have opposed him, have suffered unimaginable death. Before his path led into a dark one, he was a simple blacksmith within the town of Girino City. When the city was sieged by a number of beastile soldiers due to a political dispute over an unlawful death of one of their children by human hands, Mae-tal couldn't help, but watch as everyone he knew, and cared for was slaughtered in front of him. Over 400 soldiers disappeared from the city that very day, leaving only a sea of blood, and a very mentally unbalanced man covered in it. He was taken in by the Dark Hand, and swore an oath of silence, by cutting off his own tongue.

Sinn: Rubin Hitoshi, after running out on his two younger brothers Karu, and Heshiro was taken in, and started his own life in the outskirts of Titanus. He married to a woman named Faith, and had a small child named Hope. Hope or shall I say Sinn is the resurrected child of Rubin Hitoshi. The details of what went wrong, and what happened to the family to this day are a mystery. As for the girl...everyone knows that something brought back from the dead comes back...different...especially being resurrected by an orb of dark magic called..."The Black Pearl." She was resurrected by Mae-tal, and was immediately recruited into the Dark Hand within the group of assassins called the Untouchables, as she showed her severely heightened gift of Telekinesis/Telepathy.

Tashibana Hitoshi: A direct descendant of the Hitoshi bloodline, and surprisingly one of Karu Hitoshi's cousins. Envious of his cousin, he mimics him, and tries to outdo everything Karu does. He has even mastered the blade far further than that of Karu. He has even made a makeshift team similar to that of Karu's in hopes of taking his place, and ending his life. Unstable in the mind, he is set on destroying his cousin in order to regain his sanity, and steal his identity.

Lucretia Haldis:Through her studies, Lucretia found a way to successfully separate her soul from her body and place it into another object while still living. Due to this she has been known for over fifteen years as the greatest drow Alchemanaist in over 1000 years. Their has been much speculation as to where she placed her soul, and the two most popular speculated locations are either in the locket she wears or within the body of her dragon familiar that is kept at her side at all times. Many jealous and powerful men have sought to kill her in hopes of discovering her secrets to benefit themselves and their causes. Her title, however, was not given to her lightly. She has yet to face an equal, and no assassin who ever attempted to kill her has ever left the encounter alive.

Shisshi Pravus: A demon who roams the continent bringing bad luck and trouble to any adventurer he meets; Shisshi has also been known as the 'Malchanceux of Naroahan', though there are rumored sightings of him in Espion as well. He seems to have ties to the Aristocracy in Peristal, as well as the Peristal government due to his relationship with his half-brother Rubis, although he is first and foremost a loner and follows his own agenda. It is still unknown what his intentions are or where his true alliances lie, but he seems to be close to Rubis.

Rubis Berugu: Rubis is a hard person to read. He is an advisor to Emperor M and works closely with the government as a highly respected official. However, there are many people who suspect that he is leaking important information, but even if this is true it is still not known to whom he would be giving the information. He spends most of his time in Peristal, and is often seen with Lucretia. Before he became well known, he lived on the coast, raising his half brother after Shisshi was born.

Aizel Delacroix: When Aizel was younger, she was rescued by Rubis Berugu from a group of humans that wanted her dead because they believed her bing in their town would bring more vampires to the area. She has been in debt to him ever since, sending him whatever information she can that she steals from her clients before they mysteriously disappear. Aizel has close ties with the Covenant and the Dark Hand, and sometimes acts as a liason between the Dark Hand and Emperor M.

Before you even begin filling out a character sheet, know that this is an extremely literate role-play that will go on for a timespan of a few months...maybe more.

KOM Character Sheet (Remember...I have to approve of you being a KOM first, so think of this as a request form. These characters play a vital role in some of the plots I will have posted so don't feel bad if I deny you the role).

Name: Karu Hitoshi
Age: 17
Race: Transbeastile
Location: Peristal
Magic: Light
Weapons: Karu wields a katana like blade that has a handle shaped to that of a wolf's head, it's eyes were made from rare gems found deep within the mining tunnels of Kiracus Minor. He also wields several small daggers located conveniently about his body (2 in sleeves, 1 in boot, 1 strapped to belt).
Personality: Pure yet cold-blooded.
Brief Bio: Having spent his whole life scrounging for a meal to support he and his brother, Karu could be what most would call a man with no bounds. His reputation exceeded him at the young age of fourteen when becoming the youngest assassin to be amongst the top five ranking killers on the continent. By the time he reached seventeen he had killed the four other assassins which held the other top positions within the continent putting him at the number one spot. Now some would say that a man who killed for a living had a black heart, but apparently they didn't hear of Karu. Although Karu had slain many men, he lived by a strict code of morals. He never killed women or children. He killed only to live, to support his brother, and to clean the streets he stayed upon.

Gracious Genius

PostPosted: Fri Jan 18, 2008 9:16 pm

The city was already buzzing with activity on the first morning of the festival. The population had nearly tripled with all of the travelers who had come to the famous Festival of Lights. People crowded the streets, watching the lesser performers that walked around collecting donations from the transfixed and easily entertained masses. However, not all had arrived in Peristal for the entertainment. A horse drawn carriage had arrived around midday, sandwiched between ten armored guards on horseback. The group was drawing quite a large amount of attention as they passed through the streets and headed for the palace. Rumors traveled through the crowd that whoever was inside must be someone important. It did not take long for word to reach the thieves and assassins among the crowds, and they were particularly interested in the carriage's arrival.

The carriage stopped in front of the palace and the driver stepped down from his seat, opening the door and offering his hand to the person within. A slender, pale grey hand adorned with several silver rings reached out and took the offered hand, and soon after the body followed. It was a woman dressed all in white with silver accents, with a hooded cloak held over her shoulders with a metal leaf clasp. A sudden rush of whispers ran through the crowd as most recognized who the woman was, by both her name and her appearance. The woman was Lucretia Haldis, whose reputation was well known.

Her dragon familiar flew out after her and perched itself on her outstretched forearm, its sapphire-colored scales gleaming in the light. Lucretia removed her hand from the driver's and dismissed him as two of her guards got down from their horses and took their places behind her, entering the castle as the driver and the rest of the guards headed off for the nearest inn.

Meanwhile, a caravan had entered the city not long after Lucretia and was gaining equal attention from the crowd. This was the caravan of the Bohemians, the most anticipated performers of the entire week. A young girl sat up front with the driver, shooting flowers over the crowd that turned to tiny fireworks that disappeared before reaching the onlookers. A man was juggling flaming balls whose flame continuously changed colors. Their entrance was rather spectacular, and continued until the caravan stopped near an inn.

A dark skinned man stepped down from the caravan and a hush fell over the gathered crowd. "Ladies and gentlemen and children young and old. We humbly thank your patronage for another year and hope that we can bring you the best for your time. Now, for the woman you really came here to see, it is my pleasure to introduce to you...Lapis." Suddenly, there was a loud crack and a cloud of smoke appeared on the roof of the caravan, only to disappear a moment later to reveal the person that the people who attended the festival wanted to see: the woman known by the public as Lapis.

The crowd cheered as she bowed and smiled, blowing kisses to the onlookers. "Thank you all." she called out in a heavy accent. "Without you, we would be nothing. Your kind patronage allows for us to come back every year. So please, enjoy yourselves this week and prepare yourself for a spectacular performance like no other." Again the crowd cheered as Lapis leaped down from the caravan into the arms of the dark skinned man, leaving with him into the inn as the others in the caravan prepared it for a week of remaining stationary.

Kane Abell
Crimson Plains

Kane crouched forward onto his forepaws and sniffed the air. Dumasses couldn't be too much further as the scent of the elves was already faintly filling his nose. They had only seen one scouting party thus far, and it had been a simple task to annihilate them between him and the three wolves. The only injury sustained had been a small gash on Kane's right forearm that was already healing under his silver fur. He had even been smart enough to leave the blade in his scabbard in case the rest of the army happened to come across the remains of the bodies left back in the small camp, that way it would look like just another animal attack and not the work of the elves, and it was seldom that the Beastiles ventured this far, especially while their was a war on their own colonies.

The imminent threat posed by the humans should surely be enough for the elven people to truly ally themselves with the Beastiles, or both groups would likely be overcome by the war ravaging humans who thought to control the entire continent if not the world of Gi. After pausing for a short minute he continued to venture forward towards Damasses.

Ustarte
Somewhere on the Coastline South of Peristal

Ustarte looked out on the open sea, something seemed to lull her as she looked at it. Quickly she turned her attention back towards the fire and fish in front of her, making her crimson hair whip about furiously. “I do not know why you have to cook fish it looks delicious as it is.” Slowly she shook her hand at herself, making a tisking sound. “Now remember cooked fish tastes better and it is better for you. I will not let you forget what happened last time. Now I remember, that did not taste well at all. I cannot believe I ate the entire fish, but I was so hungry. I could not help myself. Well at least this one looks cooked now, let us eat it.” Slowly she poked at the fish hovering on a stick and it peeled off, falling into the fire. “No!” She screamed and quickly reached in after it, singeing her hands in the process. Quickly she dropped the fish in her lap as she tended her hands, blowing slowly on them. “You better stop doing that or you will have no hand left.” Unconsciously she talked to herself as she ate the fish, the mostly cooked tendrils of meat drove a sigh from her lips. “Mmmmm…”

She quickly brought her cloak up and around her shoulders as a cold wind seemed to blow in from the ocean, chilling her to the bone. “I do not like this at all…” She mumbled in reply.

Karasu
Peristal

Karasu pulled the book closer to his face as the light from his bedside candle was close to dying. The others littering the surfaces of his room had already had a head start, and only three remained shedding their glow in the small space. Repeatedly Karasu had been told to read in proper lighting, but he was too caught up in the subject matter to notice anything apart from the reading than the shrinking distance between his nose and the book. It was his favorite book, and the last one he had received during his last trip out of the castle. Karasu had a collection of about eight books that he read during the many hours he was left in his room. If that couldn't keep his mind preoccupied, he tried and often failed to sleep.

Suddenly, he heard the door in the hallway open and a burst of cold air rushed in, snuffing out the last of the flame. Sighing, Karasu closed the book and held it to his chest as another light appeared in the hallway and a guard approached holding a torch. "Rise and shine boy, they want you in the main hall."

"Of course." Karasu replied politely, getting out of his bed as the guard unlocked the door. Hoping that they wouldn't need him long, he slipped the book into his back pocket and followed the guard back up the hallway. Another mission, he thought with a bit of disappointment. Lately they hadn't given him a moment's rest. True, he was grateful for a place to sleep and food to satisfy his hunger, but he was doing the work of at least five people. Karasu unconciously began dragging his feet as they traveled up into the main entrance, ceasing once he received a scolding from his caretaker once the guard had traded him off to her.

"You will mind your manners around our guest, do I make myself clear?"

"Yes ma'am, crystal." he replied, looking around. He didn't spend much time out of his room so he was always impressed with the castle when he got the chance to see it. Then, he spotted Lucretia entering the palace and suddenly broke into a run towards her, despite cries from his caretaker. Lucretia was one of the only visitors he enjoyed seeing. "Lady Haldis!" he exclaimed as he embraced her around the middle.

Lucretia had noticed the boy just seconds before he collided with her. She enjoyed Karasu's company, and almost pittied the naive boy who had practically been born into the 'business'. But he had proven useful and capable of handling the tasks he had been given. "My dear Karasu, I had hoped to see you during my visit." Lucretia said with a practiced air of happiness, bending over slightly to return the hug. Her familiar climbed up to her shoulder and cooed softly at Karasu.

"I heard that your trip to Damasses was successful." she said with a hint of amusement, putting her hand on his shoulder and leading him to the courtyard. "I was quite impressed that you managed it in broad daylight and in such a large crowd. You're such a good boy."

As they walked, they passed by several government members that seemed pleased to see her; she nodded as they passed out of courtesy. It was terribly hard to trust any man of power in that or any other city for that matter. One had to be careful to see beyond fascades.

Once in the courtyard, Lucretia let go of her grip of Karasu's shoulder, letting him explore as she sat on a nearby bench that allowed her to the the entire courtyard. She watched in interest as he examined the flowers and various shrubbery as though he were reading a text book. Lucretia had noted at their first encounter how the boy was more interested with the structure of things and studying how they work over playing around like most boys his age. "Have you been practicing your history lessons Karasu?" she called out as he was gazing up at a bird flying overhead.

"Oh yes, Lady Haldis. Diligently. I remember how important you said it was for me to pay attention during my lessons, so that when you came back I would make you proud." Karasu replied with a smile, wandering over to her with a beautiful purple flower in his hand. He handed it to her before sitting on his knees on the ground before her. Lucretia never treated him like a servant, or barked orders at him. She was a very kind person, at least to him.

"The last thing I read was about the original founder of the Military Academy. Did you know that he was recorded as the longest living human ever? That's amazing right?"

"Of course dear." Lucretia replied.

He continued, "I don't know if I would want to live that long. I can't think of anything I would want to live that long for...except you Lady Haldis." He looked up at the sky and watched as a butterfly passed about a foot over his head. Carefully he put out his hand and the butterfly latched on. Pulling it closer to examine it, he saw that it was a deep saphire blue with silver veins, and one of its wings was damaged. Frowning, he pet the butterfly with his fingertip; he hated to see animals hurt, no matter how small they were. After a moment it fluttered away, and he watched as it disappeared into the trees.

Looking back at Lucretia, he shook his head. "Where was I? Ah, yes. I also spent some time researching the start of the war. I wasn't supposed to, but the last time I was on a mission, I snuck into their library for an hour and read all the books I could. It all sounded a lot different from what you and the Emperor have told me..."

"Yes, of course dear. Amazing." Lucretia replied half-interested. She was more concerned with a figure standing by the entrance to the courtyard. It was unclear to her, from that distance, who it was, but they were obviously interested in the two of them. For the time being, she would remain where she was and observe carefully, preparing to attack if necessary.

Karasu's starting up again jolted her attention. "Well, my dear, it is very easy for heathens and the enemy to create their own creative history. The only books you should be reading about the war are the ones within this city my dear. Please don't forget that." Lucretia did not want the boy's head filled with treasonous thoughts; it would save him from having to be disposed of.

Meanwhile, the Bohemians had made themselves comfortable inside the Drunken Friar Inn. There were 20 of them in all, ranging in age from 5 years old to a set of 60 year old twins. They busied themselves with alcohol, songs and jokes, while their two leaders had found other means of entertainment. Lapis and her companion had already retired to their room and were sitting together at the window sill.

"This place hasn't changed much at all." Lapis muttered, looking out at the buildings, her eyes finally settling on the palace. "I wonder sometimes, Peine, if we shouldn't settle down somewhere like this."

"If we ever settle down, it should be somewhere quiet. Otherwise it wouldn't really be settling down." Lapis punched Peine playfully before getting up and pulling him onto the bed. Peine laid next to her and wrapped his arm around her waist, rubbing her stomach. "Just think. One day we can have children of our own."

Lapis sighed, nodding. They had tried before, but had yet to succeed. Regardless, it was a dream of theirs. The two of them were silent for sometime, until Lapis heard Peine snoring softly. Carefully she removed his arm and got out of bed, grabbing her cloak before heading for the window. She had her own agenda in Peristal that year, and she did not want anyone getting involved. Securing her cloak to disguise her appearance, Lapis opened the window and leapt out onto the roof below then to the alley behind the Inn, walking towards the spectators and blending in with the crowd as she headed in the direction of the palace.
