I'm an old school gamer.... in my household, we have almost every Nintendo system made to date. From the box-like original Nintendo, to the brand-spankin' new Wii. Despite having the newer systems, the old ones will always be my favorites... the pixelated fun that was Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Super Mario RPG (best freaking Mario game ever made! If you own a copy of the now hard-to-find game, you're awesome!), and even back to the days of Duck Hunt and Super Mario World.
So when I found these on Etsy, I immediately felt the need to hunt down our little bead-thingy (I forgot what they're called... but we have a ton of them somewhere) and try to achieve a similar effect of these:

The heart containers are my favs!

I've never used those kinds of beads before, but they look fun. I think I like the Dr. Mario viruses the best. xd

Dr. Mario was probably the only Mario game I've never really played (or I just don't remember playing it). >__<
I searched Nintendo Crafts on google and got another awesome idea!
I fished out our perler/hama beads, so I'm plenty stocked up on them, and I think I might try to make some charms for my siblings. If all goes as planned (I tend to make big plans in my head but only get a fraction of said plans moved into action), I'm going to try and make at least three charm bracelets... A Kirby's Dreamland one (with Kirby in several different poses), a Legend of Zelda one (complete with partial heart container, Master Sword, and Big Key), and last of all a Mario World one.
For the Mario one (if not all of them), I'm going to wrap in a box decked out as a Mario Question block!
I found a site where people have made life-sized ones and hung them up around town: Blade Diary - Questionblocks
Perfect unique way to wrap up a Nintendo themed gift! I might even try and whip up some power-up mushrooms, 1ups, and invincibility stars to plave on top of the intended gift, just to make it accurate. ^__^

The jewelry was okay. I admit to loving the old-style games too. I loved the Mario blocks on Blade_Diary and bookmarked it! It would be a great thing to do and put plushies in them as random gifts!! Of course that would mean it might be best to make them as smaller boxes 4laugh

I'm going to make the boxes life-sized I think. ^__^ Though the perler bead projects are rather small, I'm also giving all my sibs bought gifts too, mostly books, so the life-sized boxes should work nicely. I'm going to have to get a picture once it's all done and the boxes are under the tree. It should be quite the surprise to the siblings when they wake up in the morning to find 5 Mario blocks under the tree!
I also made a bunch of Legend of Zelda perler bead props last night. It's a simple project, but I'm really pleased with the results. I might have pics later on today.
My favorite one that I've made so far is the Link to the Past treasure chest. I'm considering making it double sided, with one side being the empty chest. X3

I am excited to see pictures! It sounds like you have your work cut out for you but you must be an awesome sister! (or brother if your avatar does not reflect actual gender sweatdrop )

@pneumadragonfly: You were right with sister. X3 It's actually turned out to be pretty easy, which is good. I made a whole set of prototype Legend of Zelda props that I'm going to turn into pins and other jewelery... Here's a couple of kinda poor-quality photos. I need to remake a few of them because the colors are off, but I'm otherwise happy with the effect! ^__^

@Demon Those are great! They look like they were made well. I think putting them in "?" boxes would be great. It would make my brothers sqeel. xd

Maimy NEEDS heart container pins. Many. In varying stages of fulness so I can change them depending on how alive I feel.

Lol I remember those beads, I use to have boxes and boxes full of them. They are really good to chew on too. sweatdrop I think me and my brother used to eat them more than use them for anything constructive. A family of plastic chewers should not own something like these.
I wouldn't have thought of using them to make old school Pixel images though. I bet my mother would love a heart container key chain. She loves Zelda.
