I'm currently writing a story titled "Forgotten memories". I've been at it for over two years now and only at the fourth chapter. The problem is that I have a problem coming up with names for things. For example I have characters that have been given powers and weapons from their gods and are currently titled the "God Knights". Also the names for the different nations are quite see through for the story.

Here are the different nations and how they are translated. Woud=wood,Fyre=fire,Watyre=water, Metale=metal, Lyght=light, and Daerk=dark. Each element has a major town and each town is surrounded by something natural of that element. Examples of what I mean: Woud is surrounded by a forest, Fyre is located in a desert, Watyre has sunk under the sea, & Metale is surrounded by craters from "sky metal" and a forest of metal trees. Lyght is a nation where the gods live, and only appears during the "darkest hour", Daerk is where demons live, and only comes out every 50 human years to wreck havoc.

Could you guys give me some pointers for some better names, at least for the knights and the title of the story?

For a person's name, I find that http://www.behindthename.com is a great resource. For place names, I look at either a) a different language's word for something or b) odd words that I can modify. As for title of the story, I tend to just sleep on it until something hits me that just sticks (that's how my 2006 NaNoWriMo became known as "Stereotypical Sci-Fi Comedy No. 12" for no reason: it came to me when I was just about to fall asleep).

Hope that helps!

For the God Knights: The Ascended or the Knights (Defenders/Bearers/Order/Chosen etc.) of the Pearl (Sword/Rose/Lily/Oak/Flame/Eagle/Griffin etc.)
Just mix and match some standard heraldic items.

About the nations:
My apologies, but those names remind me of the numerous "Rayvvin Darkholmes" or other abominations from the world of Sue. Using y's instead of i's and inserting random e's does not a good name make, sorry.

Wood: Darkwood, Highwood, Eiben, Mori, Wald, Foret, Holzhausen...
Fire: Flamereach, Flamepit, Valley of Magma, Feuertal, Redriver...
Water: Underwaves, Mar upon Tyne, Mara, LeMer, Meerhof, Wasserburg...
Metal: Ironrule, Ironrock, Ore, Eisenstadt, Erzgebirge
Light: Goleuni, Ray-on-Cloud, Brightfields, Lichthof, Asmar
Dark: Tywill, Tycho, Pit of Stars, Mantle of Night, Dunkelstatt

... and such...

If you linger on names too long then you don't get on with the main story as you know. If you just put a blank spot and continue with your rough draft then it will be fine, just come back to it. If you read your rough draft you'll find a million mistakes so if you're trying to make a final draft in one try, STOP. It doesn't work. I've had the same problem sooo many times and generally coming back to it is the best thing.

I think a good name for the God Knights would be Warriors of the Final Ascension. And something that just popped into my head for the city of Dark was Mortazia.

But isn't that a little overused?

I would pick some words from a different language- Don't be too concerned with direct translations (like Vader=Father in Dutch). Pick something that's somewhat related, or maybe even completely unrelated or opposite. Only a few will realize where you picked up the name for the evil Knights of Verdomme (Verdomme="damn" in Dutch). It sounds exotic without being too flowery, in my opinion.

If you don't use whole words, maybe think of combining word stems from different languages.
