It was oddly a warm evening. Alaois had become rather tired of sitting inside the old mage's guild, stuffed around the angsty humanoids and Tenar. He had needed out of the tower and in doing so he gathered up Ceonal into the bag they had carried him in and gently nosed Cloelia to wake her. I want to go for a walk. I'd like you to come with me if you don't mind. He said this with a smile, the strap of bag around his neck with the egg gently nestled inside.

Alaois glanced at Lorelei as he was leaving, making sure the guild knew he was only going for a walk and that they should be expecting him back. He followed the river out of the city, thankful when the hustle and noise of passing people finally faded. Alaois had decided out of all the humanoids with them to only take Dahne. After the recent death of her sister he knew she needed out and he hadn't been getting along too well with his bonded at the moment so he figured she was the better choice.

The light from the looming sun sent sparkles twinkling along his sapphire scales. He smiled lightly as he found a nice shaded spot away from the water, leaving Red-River City far enough in the distance. He laid his long snake-like body along the bank, his tail dipping happily into the cool water. He smiled even more when Dahne's small arms wrapped around his neck.

((I gave them a reason to be around your guyses wyrms, hope it doesn't upset the continuity any.))

It had been the stupidest of arguments. Uva wanted to go out to the lands beyond Raeburn's territory. He had forbade her until she was an adult and he reminded her of this. But, for some reason, instead of putting on her most pitiful face and begging for her way like she usually did, Uva began to scream. She yelled things she put no thought into. You never let me do what I want! Why do you always treat me like a newborn hatchling?! It had been over a week ago when she took off; claiming she was running away and not going to return, and still they rang in her head. It felt like she would never get over the hurt look on her father's face when she shouted those awful things, even if she thought they were at least a little true.
In the end, Uva ran off, heart and throat both aching from her words. Originally, she had just wanted to get away from the situation, the pain of the emotions. When she was too tired to run anymore she was still in Raeburn's territory, but the next morning she had made her decision. Uva was not going to turn back, she had made too much of a fuss to humble herself by going back. Her pride wouldn't allow for it.
So, here she was, wandering with no aim but the thought of 'away' along an unfamiliar river she had found and followed. This was where she had wanted to be, right? Way out in the open, farther away from the lake hidden in the trees than she had ever been before, on her own. By herself.
Alone.

Except, Uva wasn't as alone as she thought she was. Raeburn had been on her trail since day two and on her tail since day three with the help of two familiar Wind Wyrms and their nosey, but helpful, Bondeds. He was glad he had told her to stay along rivers for a steady source of food if she ever got separated from him; she was much easier to follow that way. Fortunately for Raeburn, he had sensed Uva's moodiness rising over the past few weeks and was more or less prepared for her to become upset with him. One of the Wind Wyrm's Bondeds had mentioned that he ought to be on the look out for it; he said female humans could be highly unpredictable as they grew into maturity and that it was probably the same with Wyrms. So, when the time came, he did his best to let Uva get it out of her system and let her run off without losing his temper. However, he did not expect her to not return. Worried, as any parent would be at this point, he had the two flying Wyrms find her.
So far, she had taken good care of herself. She was well enough fed, managing to leap upon a large, unsuspecting egret that was preoccupied with its fish. Uva had gotten the fish along with the bird. She stayed away from human encampments and any place that smelled of another wyrm. She slept in groups of closely gathered trees so that a larger creature would have a difficult time sneaking up on her. Raeburn couldn't help but feel a bit proud that she had done all this on her own. But still, he could tell Uva regretted her action and wanted to make amends. (She lacked her usual smug, self-confident demeanor. That was a dead giveaway.) The great blue and white Water Wyrm knew it would take a while, much longer than the week and a half already passed, but she would come around and return home. In the mean time, he would stay obscured, keeping an eye out for anything his daughter might not notice.

The heat of the evening was different from the kind Uva was akin to. At the lake, even if the sun was warm, the air and the water cool at best. This heat seemed to be in the air itself. She wasn't sure if she liked it or not. As the vibrantly purple Shadow Wyrm continued along the path that was the river, she could smell the scent of others similar to her kind on the air, along with that of a human. They were quite close. Uva contemplated trying to go around, but she concluded that if she was going to be on her own, she was going to have to interact with unfamiliar beings sooner or later. Cautiously, Uva pressed on slowly until she saw them. 'Well,' She thought, 'One of 'um is a Lightie, more often than not they're at least not evil. Still...' The train of though ended with a bit of distaste. If it was one thing Uva had problems with more than goodie goodies like Light Wyrms usually were, it was other females. The little human appeared to be female, too. Sucking it up, she approached them with the kindest, meekest demeanor she could.
"Excuse me," She said aloud; mind-speak would be far to familiar to address strangers, obviously. Ew, being polite like that was almost painful. "Can you tell me where this river leads?"

Alaois' tail was moving back and forth in the water, he was hardly paying attention to much more than the glistening pool and the egg around his neck when he heard the voice. Turning his head he regarded the little wyrm carefully through his pink eyes, his tail flicking in aggitation. It leads to a city a few miles upstream. He replied, eyeing the scarlet starry egg out of the corner of his eyes at all times.

Dahne's eyes blinked. She hadn't heard the wyrm but she noticed Alaois' demenor change. In doing so she turned her head, smiling softly at the little shadow below her. Suddenly her whole body shivered, remembering the full grown Shadow Wyrm that had eaten her sister. She frowned, shuddering as tears filled her eyes, clinging to Alaois.

Dahne, are you alright? He questioned in concern, leaning his head down to touch her forehead. He had wondered if bringing her out here was a bad idea afterall. Maybe she wasn't ready to be around others with Casina's death so soon passed.

She nodded softly, rubbing tears out of her eyes with the back of her hand.

Cloelia had been as happy to get away from the guild as Alaois. Everybody seemed to be either depressed or angry; it had been beginning to get a little wearing; Angetenar’s silent disdain, the quietness of the humanoids, the confines of their room... And then there was Bella. The green woman seemed to be torn between anger at Tenar for being angry with then, worry for her friend Ning and depression that he didn’t seem to want much to her.

She felt for her bonded, she really did. It was just that she felt like kicking her daft face in, too. It was definitely good to get away, good and so relaxing that she’d been dozing until she heard the voice. Opening her eyes, the light wyrm smiled slightly and nodded to her mate’s words. “Yes, called Red River... You headed that way?” A shadow... The red female glanced over at Dahne, wincing internally as she recalled being told what had happened to the girl’s sister. She herself hadn’t seen the body, and for that small mercy she was grateful.

“I’m Cloelia by the way,” she said, turning back to the purple wyrm before her with a smile and a nod. Perhaps this could turn out to be good after all, perhaps Dahne would be able to see that not all shadows were like the one that had killed Casina. She hoped so at any rate.

Ugo swishes his tail back and forth restlessly. The muscles in his body twitch with an instinctual yearning to explore his surroundings, climb trees, or what have you--something, anything except staying still and resting. Smitten by wanderlust, he paces to and fro, staring at his bonded, Saja. They had been traveling for quite some time and his bonded hadn't been sleeping well so he did not want to wake her. Ugo stops pacing for a moment, pleads with his eyes, willing Saja to awaken. He sighs, then resumes pacing.

"If only you weren't so...overprotective of me..." Ugo mutters in his mind to the sleeping Saja. He craved a day without his bonded beside him--it wasn't that he found her annoying, but rather slightly stifling. She seemed to be perpetually worried about him. He could feel her anxiety when she found him as an egg and raised him. The truth was that Saja never felt worthy of raising Ugo. The young Wyrm sighs again as he recalls just how overprotective Saja could be.

"Ah...if only..." He sighs, staring off into the distance as a warm evening breeze gently glided against his scales, as though the night were calling out to him, beckoning him forward. It was just enough. The Wyrm glances at his bonded apologetically, he made his decision--a journey without Saja.

"I will be safe, I promise.." Ugo softly mind-speaks to his bonded, before slipping away without another glance. He knew that if he looked at her one last time, his resolve to have an adventure without her would evaporate. The young Wyrm treks onward into the night with a smile on his face, relishing the 'freedom' he gained.

((Heh...sorry it took me this long to post...I apologize for the icky role-playing.))

The young Wyrm continues his journey, not pausing for rest. He smiles, proud of himself for being away from his bonded for the first time. For some reason, he does not turn left or right. The warmth of the air envelops Ugo, causing his throat to become dry. He licks his lips in an attempt to instigate his salivary glands, but it did no good. He sighs, slightly frustrated that he had to stop his trek towards adventure.

Looks like I'm going to have to find some water. Ugo thinks to himself as he lifts his snout and sniffs the air for water. His eyes light up with relief as he catches the scent of water. He follows the scent eagerly, soon, the gentle sound of rushing water reached his ears.

"What a lucky Wyrm I am!" he mutters as he reaches the river. "It's a good thing this river was close by." Ugo happily lowers his head and drinks deeply from the river, its cool water refreshes him. He licks the water off his snout and continues forward, this time following the river.

"I'm Uva," She said haughtily as if the knowledge of her name were some great privilege. "And yeah, I suppose I'm headed that way. There some reason I shouldn't be? I mean, it ain't exactly like I have to go that way, just that I picked a direction and started walking." The adolescent Shadow Wyrm really didn't know much about the outside world and, like any headstrong youngster; she had a problem admitting it. But asking a simple question wasn't exactly admitting ignorance, at least that's what Uva was telling herself. In fact, she was rather proud she had managed to be relatively civil so far.

Uva tilted her head to the side, snorting a little at the small humanoid's tears. "What's her problem?" She asked, lacking a tone of sympathy for the obviously upset child. She didn't look like she was in any physical pain, what was there to be sad about? 'I swear, I was never that pathetic...'

Meanwhile, Raeburn was hanging back, letting his daughter converse. These two, plus their little humanoid, seemed okay enough. However, he couldn't help but wonder how Uva had developed such poor grammar. As he was pondering this, Raeburn sensed a disruption in the river. Still completely submerged, he carefully turned his long body around to watch a younger Water Wyrm walk past on the land. It seemed a little absurd to Rae that the unfamiliar youngling was walking and not swimming, but he supposed it was a good thing that he had not been found out. After all, Uva wasn't supposed to know he was there.

Alaois looked down at the feisty little shadow with a shrug of his shoulders. It's your choice wherever you go, though I find it rather strange that someone as young as you would go to a humanoid village is all. He stated, shifting Dahne comfortably so he could comfort the girl a little more. She just lost her sister. He replied to the rudeness Uva demonstrated which caused him to huff at her.

The red-coated female gave a slight nod as her mate spoke. “Yes, it’s not a bad place and they’re fairly used t our sort there; a few redisent wizards are bonded so people probably won’t run screaming at the mere sight of you.” Even as she said this, Cloelia wondered if perhaps they aught to run. Perhaps it was just in her nature as a light to be suspicious of a shadow but she didn’t like thus Uva’s attitude one bit. She tried not to listen to her blood but... well, there was a reason for the stereotypes each element was given.

Not all conformed to it, Gods knew she didn’t, but few deviated too far. Evil was in the blood of shadows and many of them followed its call. Caution, especially when one had an egg about, was never a bad thing. This in mind, the gold-marked starlight wyrm watched the purple creature attentively, though without open caution or suspicion.
