Dark night. Blue-edged black clouds brush past the moon toward their unnamed destinations. You're afraid that the house up ahead won't be much warmer than the outside air, but maybe you'll find a fireplace. You and your companions stay close together to retain what little warmth you have-- though once you get inside, you know who you want to get closest to. On this night she seems brighter than the moonlight, and you hope she'll help bring you through the darkness.

The mansion looms ever taller as you approach; in your mind you're making a list, as you've got a little work to do. Get into that house-- out of the cold-- gather clues, and maybe find out what really makes this place so creepy... and maybe make your way into somebody's heart. Can you possibly manage all that?

I shan't make your guarantees for you... but I'm told that females are great at multitasking xd

That's right, a site-based shoujo-ai RP combining general scariness and... love. Is it even possible? Why don't you find out? The writing isn't all there yet, so I'm giving this RP plenty of time to warm up. I will welcome hugs kisses enthusiastic remarks, constructive criticism, resounding shouts of "I wanna join!" and so forth. I am less interested in such comments as "omg tis iz stoopid rofl", but as this is a literate guild, I really don't expect that. I really trust you guys. Ideas are great too, but if it's something specific, PM me so you don't spoil it for others. The actual RP will be posted later (if at all), at a time dictated by the response to this idea.

I am planning mystery (there are ways of doing that), fright (I'm always up for a challenge) and romance as only literate shoujo-ai can do justice (that's your job-- maybe start with a little tension, don't give the game away). Having said that, female characters. The setting is intended to be modern, but I might be willing to set it back a few decades... or so. Characters, I must say, will be "ordinary" people. Since there's really no such thing as an ordinary person (the proper term is "NPC"), I mean no superhuman strength, fictitious-sounding mastery of the martial arts (I could understand a 1st-degree black belt in Karate, Aikido, etc.), magic, supernatural powers, weapons, that sort of thing. Think Chekhov, people-- characters that drive the story because of who they are, not how far they can toss a planet. (It's not even an Olympic sport. Sheesh.) Again, I trust you. With a little imagination, you can make this really exciting. All in all, I hope it'll be fun.

I shall now give this thread some much needed love.

*Lights some candles, puts on some Barry White.*

Er... Or maybe I'll just post. I'm game, though I doubt I'll be much help with the whole coming up with ideas to help pull this all together thing. Still, um... I already said I'm game. Well... I guess that's all I really want to say. Yeah.

Oh, and planet tossing would be the greatest Olympic sport ever.

Oh, and planet tossing would be the greatest Olympic sport ever.

and, given the scarcity of planets within reach, probably the last olympic sport ever.

That's OK, I'll gladly scare whatever's left. domokun Don't worry if you don't have any tremendous ideas to contribute-- the ideas are flowing like wine from the fingertips of Bacchus himself. Still, if you want to toss around some ideas for characters and their relationships with each other among yourselves, go ahead. It might be nice to have some characters familiar with each other in addition to the usual role-playing strangers.

Well, I suppose siblings who aren't both controlled by the same user would work. If someone wants to be my character's sister, we can hammer out some details over PM.

or even sibling controlled by the same person. I love playing a set of twins, cause it's funny stuff. XD But it's totally up to the DM if it's going to be allowed. ^_^

I am interested. 3nodding I like a little bit of creepy in my roleplays. twisted

I also like the idea of characters who know each other. Every time I have done that in RPs, it has worked out wonderfully. 3nodding It's nice to have that extra layer of depth.

But I was not sure when I read the introduction whether you are thinking of making this something that is seriously scary, like horror, or more light-hearted. Are you planning this to be more like a romantic comedy with mystery and horror elements? Where the frights and the creepiness are more like background and ambiance? Or will the point of the roleplay be to try and solve the mystery of the haunted house, and any relationships that form are incidental?

I don't think I've ever seen siblings controlled by different users, though, be they twins or otherwise.

I think it's safe to say that it's primarily serious. I mean, that doesn't rule out comedy completely, but I feel like if I want to effectively spook anyone (which isn't easy to begin with), a lighthearted comedy tone will make it more difficult. Also, I'm looking for realistic characters, with as much depth as you care to put in them. Still, I'm not going to be a joy Nazi-- just go with the flow.

As for that last sentence, think of it as the the reason somebody takes their date to a scary movie-- so they'll get all frightened and cuddle up next to you. Pure joy, that. heart That's the absolute basic idea, though romance is its own reward. In the story, there is a monetary reward for finding out what's going on. But yeah, if you can make people laugh without reaching into Hammerspace, feel free. Does that help? (If it doesn't, I think the intro to the actual RP should clear up most of it.)

Oh, and Deirdre+Samantha, about the twin thing-- I love it; you are more than welcome to do it in whatever combination you want. The only thing I would forbid is maybe a mute ninja vampire or a two-headed ogre with split personalities. (I have actually seen both in tabletop games.) Also, I won't mind if people go chibi or something if you're having that much fun, but just try to avoid the Full Metal Alchemist kind of thing where humor is injected into a life-or-death situation.

But life-or-death situations are the best time to crack a joke! Especially at that one instance where the die-hard skeptic is proven so horribly horribly wrong!

But if you really don't want me cracking jokes while I stare into the unblinking eye of death, I guess I can play along.

You know, actually... this isn't a bad turnout in such a short space of time. I'll put up a character app within the next few days, I think. Actual beginning of the RP should be no later than... one week?

I'd rather wait to see if anyone wants to play my sister, but I think I'll be the obligatory super skeptic this time around. Oh, and the profile sheet'd help.

That two-headed ogre fellow must've been loads of fun. One of my personal favorites was the lizardman whose arm got lopped off while he was wearing a ring of regeneration, so it grew into an evil twin.
