Hello again, back with another question concerning (Spelling?) Cookie. Now, since Jasmine came, Cookie became the Alpha Mare. dundunduunnn. Yes. And yeah she does what an alpha does, keeping Jasmine in line and so on. I'm always watching them, and you sometime see cookie lay her ears back and tries to bite Jaz, day in and day out. But she does this thing that makes me wonder why? is she just trying to make her self Miss Superiour Alpha Mare Of The Paddock? After Jasmine...poops... she goes over to it smells it stomps on it paws at it and them...pees on it. O.o Does anyone know what that means? or why she does that?
Thanks.

Yes, its because she's reminding a Jasmine that she's above her. Herding each other is normal among horses, which includes nipping and even chasing their their ears back (Snaking). I've never seen a mare do the poo thing tho. I've seen lots of 'leader' geldings do it, and stallions. It's a wild thing that the stallion of a herd would do to cover the sent of their mares. She's probably doing it so that the area is marked with her sent, similar to like what dogs do, to show its her area.

Yep, she does that too, every morning she goes over and bites Jasmine to remind her that she is the boss today. She does chase her and nips her too, so yes, i'm guessing that this is normal alpha mare behavior. Yeah that whole poo thing was wierd when it happend. Yeah, your right it is probably like what a dog does.

That is normal. Alpha's ALWAYS establish their dominance in a different way.
Penny, for example, has a Low War Cry and struck out with her front right leg when we tried to get them in the first night. Then, when we first put them out together, Penny gave Cindy a few sniffs nose to nose, then Penny pinned her ears, growled and gave her a chase. Penny chose different ways to show she was the boss. They won't hurt one another. It's like in High School, how you would treat the Minor Niners. (Stuffing them in lockers and the like. ) It's showing who's the boss. They sometimes need a reminder.
Now, though, even though she is the Alpha, they might get along after a week or two. Penny and Cindy now stick close, cuddle and are the best of friends. But hey, who can stay evil at a baby? xD

At first when they were first introduced they we ok, then after we saw them sorting out thier orders. Somtimes even Jaz decides to give a little kick at Cook. Yep, Cookie always gives Jazzy a reminder on who is the boss today.
