I'm looking for any taping advice I can get. I'm not 100% sure thats the route I am going to go, but I am trying to weigh my options. Right now I'm at a 10ga. (not large, but I'm not aiming to go super big, because it won't look proportionate on me, and I've been taking things super slow.) I've been at this size for a few months now. I've got the taper for the next size down, took a hot shower, lubed up with some plain water based lube, and got the taper in, and it wouldn't go past half way. I didn't try to force it, because it isn't worth it to damage my ears, so I put my old jewelry back in and waited a week. A week later when I tried again, same thing, my ears don't seem to want to go any bigger. sad I've considered wearing weighted jewelry, but don't want to thin my lobes out at the bottom, I'm not sure if thats what will happen, but figured that wasn't the absolute best way to go. So I guess my questions would be...
1.) What type of tape do you use, and where might I obtain some?
2.) What are the most common methods for taping?
3.) Any drawbacks?
Any other additional information would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

Normally what I do is wear something a little more heavy and also in stead of taping I would put in A normal earing first and then slide my normal gage back in and leave it for a few weeks. then I'd add another normal earing and then wait a few weeks. Then I'd trade for the larger.

wait, I'm not sure I'm getting this correctly. You put in an earring and then the plug or what ever jewelry you are using, and leave both in? that doesn't sound like a very good idea to me. And I don't see how it could have any benefits that outweigh taping. Unless I am not understanding you correctly.

Its very hard to tape a 10g. I tried to tape but couldn't get a successfull tape until about 0g. I just used tapers all the way up. A couple of stages I had to go to my piecer and ask her to taper for me. It was like getting a new piercing all together but at least its sterile and done properly. And remember, never go up more than one size at a time. Good luck!

I do cocoa butter massages on my lobes. I'm also at a 10 gauge and plan on stretching to an 8 within 2 weeks.
My advice: Take your jewelry out every night. Run your lobes with cocoa butter for at least 10 minutes each. Reinsert jewelry. After about a week your lobes should be a little more stretchy and willing to accept an 8 gauge.
Why cocoa butter? It encourages new skin to grow while helping to break down scar tissue. Massaging it into you lobes also helps with circulation to your ears. Better circulation = healthier piercings.

my friends and i use bondage tape. i'm moving up to a 4, and i add one wrap a day with cocoa butter. it's slow, but painless and clean. just wash the jewelry and your ear, massage well with cocoa butter and add a wrap, then put the jewelry back it.
for reference, bondage tape is the stretchy plastic-y stuff that doesn't have a sticky side. it just kinda sticks to itself, like saran wrap but thicker.
edit: i'm at a 2g now, in a week and a half. completely painless. i'd really suggest the cocoa butter and bondage tape.

OK, so a couple people say coco butter is the way to go. I guess I'll give it a shot. I was looking at some in the store the other day but ended up putting it back. I'll have to go back and get it.

coco butter is awesome jojoba oil massage is even better! bondage tape is the way to go you can get it for about 6 -12 dollars a roll at a local sex shop hahah yeah i know just bite the bullet and do it if the taper doesn't want to go in thats normal, its not bad until it starts hurting discomfort is expected but straight out pain is not good i say taper until you get to a 6 and then start warping for all the other sizes after or you can tape half way there and then use a taper for the rest so you are not moving so much tissue around, also if a taper is sticking it might be what the taper is made out of acrylic while it is smooth to the touch can be very sticky to the skin and that might also be the problem metal tapers are by far the best when it comes to that method but taping is by far the safest

Some resistance is to be expected when you taper your ears. I went from the normal 20g to a 0g (over the course of a year) using tapers and sometimes experienced outright pain for a few minutes. The longest a tapering process took me was an hour and a half...I'd get the taper halfway through, then it would stop. I'd sit and wait for about five minutes to let my ear adjust slightly, then go a little further. Wait a few minutes, push a little farther. Sometimes it takes a while, but it's worth it. My ears never tore and I have no scarring, so I guess I was doing something right. 3nodding
