Wow, a guy that lived just a few doors down from me in my Halls of Residence killed himself. I'm kind of shocked, but I'm not weeping or anything (I wasn't exactly friendly with the guy). It's just a little weird, 'cause I never saw it coming. A few of my friends were good with him, so I do feel bad for them, and it's so sudden.

Wow.

I've only dealt with suicide once. It was my sister's best friend. He hung himself in his garage when they were both 17 and I was 10.
It never really hit me at the time, because I was young and still didn't understand it, but after a while, I felt really bad for him.

And I hope your friends aren't too ... I'm searching for the right word, but can't find it, so I'll say ... hurt, but the experience. Suicide is really a hard thing to deal with.

I offer my condolences.

Cool.

Which uni are you at and how did he do it?

My university used to have the highest rate of student suicide in the UK.

Man, I was in a dorm for a while, two quarters. They had to seal the windows because they realized that with four people to a room and four rooms in a suite, people were just in too close of quarters and began jumping out of the windows. Considering there were about 24 floors, it did the job.

Had a pretty high suicide rate. Just sucked that we couldn't open the windows after they'd cut down the number of people in the rooms. Then again I hated dorms in general so it didn't last long.

One cool thing, though, Jeffery Dahmer used to stay in the same dorm, back in his day.

He hung himself, with green ribbon, which we're assuming is meant to symbolise something. He did it at home, but we're in Stirling, which is the current front-runner in the suicide stakes, apparantly.

I'm sorry to hear that... I know it is hard to feel grief or sympathy for a stranger, so don't berate yourself for not being sad. A female tenant of my grandmothers house committed suicide by jumping off the roof. My grandma found her. The woman was still alive because she had hit the roof of a balcony on the way down. She died a little while later in hospital. Two years after, I moved into the rooms she had lived in. Weird feeling.

It's less a stranger and more someone I didn't like, so it is a weird feeling. I'm not gonna kid myself and claim to be have been his best friend or anything, but I do feel bad for what happened.

We're wonderign what's gonna happen with the room he lived in now, because it's right beside the kitchen, and if someone new moves in it'll be weird and uncomfortable.

It's always sad that things like that happen.

I guess it will be weird and uncomfortable for a while, but eventually, things will fade from memory. Personally, I don't think that human suffering imprints itself into buildings as some spiritists believe. We don't leave such things behind when we go, so the room will just be a room.

I'm a terrible person.

I was thinking, that if I lived there, that it would be awesome if he came back as a ghost.

@Cinerea: I know I wouldn't be bothered but for the fact that there are a few that were close to him that won't get over it. In fact, they're thinking of not coming back, which I hope doesn't happen. Things like that make it harder to forget.

@Vanadia Gold: I keep expecting to have him enter the building and reveal it was all a joke or a scam of some sort.

Hmm... when one of my birds died lately, I caught myself peering into the voliere time and again, wondering why he wasn't there... sad

I had nine lovebirds. Now there are eight, and one female without her mate...

OMG! I was thinking that, too.

Not the terrible person part...
