-=-Vending Tips and Suggestions V2-=-

Welcome to the Vending Tips and Suggestions Thread! Newly Revamped and cooler than ever! Thus the awesome V2.

Here you can find out the meaning of the marketplace, how to use it to your advantage, the tendencies of certain items, and much much more! This thread is to purely help you better understand the Gaian marketplace so that you can become richer faster. Well what do you say we get started eh?

-=-The New Marketplace-=-

Before we do anything, we need to explain the features and changes that were added/changed with the updated marketplace.

Now the most popular and hated change was the addition of the 2% sales tax. This means that when you sell an item on the market, 2% of the total sale price will be deducted.

For instance, say you sell a hockey mask for 100g. With the 2% tax, Gaia will take away 2g from your sale. Giving you 98g total for your sale instead of 100g.

This may not seem like much at first, but it adds up. I just sold Horns of the Demon for 1.65 million gold and the tax took away 33k. So, obviously, the higher the price that the item is sold for, the higher the sales tax is.

Other additions to the marketplace include: The ability to check an item's history from the market instead of having to open up tektek.org, Suggestions of items to buy depending on what you have bought previously in the marketplace, easier accessible wishlist, Watchlist updates, and other useful things.

I still encourage the use of tektek.org simply because it is much more thorough than the gaia marketplace. Tektek.org gives day-to-day prices of every item in the market. As well as average buy price and other useful information. Using tektek.org will make your Gaia vending experience much easier and a lot less painful. Always price check on tektek.org before buying an item for the first time. Otherwise you might be buying an item at the peak of it's inflation. Which brings me to my next area.

-=-Using the Market to your Advantage-=-

The prices in the marketplace are always fluctuating. It is up to you to spot good times to buy certain items, good times to sell, and good times to invest in an item or two.

Prices are never steady unless it is a store-bought item. Items such as collectables and event items are never the same for long. This is the main reason why you can either get rich from the market, or lose everything in the market. If you are not careful, and buy when you need to sell or sell when you need to buy, you can lose a whole lot quicker than you earn. Use the many features of the market and tektek.org to determine whether or not it is a good time to buy/sell/trade for an item.

WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS!

People will try to offer you trades with more items of less value than your one item. DO NOT FALL FOR IT! Always price check before agreeing to a trade.

-=-The Art of Sniping-=-

Sniping is the fastest but hardest way to earn gold. What is sniping you ask? It is when the seller of an item accidentally puts an item up for sale for lower than they wanted by way of a typo.

Example: If I want to sell my pitchfork for 200k but accidentally leave out a 0 and put it up for sale for 20k, whoever buys it has just gotten a snipe.

Sniping has become more difficult with the new marketplace, but they still occur. The key is to having a sharp eye and a fast internet connection. I recommend using Firefox with the Fasterfox add-on.

To look for a snipe go to the marketplace and click on "All Listings". Once you are there go to the selection belt and select "Just added". Snipes go very quickly so if you do not catch it just as it occurs, you won't get it. Keep refreshing the page and looking for an item that you are familiar with. If you see an item you think is low, price check before you do anything. It may just be a deflation of price for that item recently and not a snipe.

The perfect time to look for a snipe are the 15th-18th of each month. Users will donate and put letters up for sale for 5k lower than the lowest price often. They want to sell their letters so they will drop the price tremendously to do so. To get these, simply go to the letter's page and keep refreshing and try to catch a few.

This is a great way to get anything from 4k-8k profit from one letter. Just remember to be fast and on your toes. It also helps if you have an easy-to-type password. You have to be able to type it in quickly otherwise someone else who does have one will finish and get the item before you.

I would also recommend using firefox's password remembering system. If you have this, your password will already be filled in when you open the page. This is much quicker than having to type it in obviously, and you won't have to change your password to a shorter one to snipe. I, personally use this method and would recommend it over all other methods.

-=-Evolving Items-=-

NEW INSTALLMENT

Over time, Evolving items have slowly become a major factor in the marketplace. So I've decided to add a new section dedicated only to these money-making jewels.

First off, unless you REALLY want a certain pose, don't buy anything other than first generation. One, because the resale only goes down over time, and two, when the final evolution happens, you're screwed.

Now then, when is a good time to buy an evolution item? The answer is pretty simple. A normal evolution item evolves every two weeks. The time to buy is a week after it's evolution. So start shopping for one the first Friday AFTER it's latest evolution. By then the price has settled and more people are selling them, so naturally the price will be lower.

Now when to sell when to sell your evolving item. It's pretty obvious. You want to sell your evolving item AS SOON as it makes a new evolution. The price will jump every time your item has a new evolution, sell it. The price always goes back down about a week after the evolution. Even if you like the item sell it. Then buy it back when the price lowers. Thus the insane profit.

Some people use evolving items strictly for profit. Simply because it's a very easy thing to do. It takes time. Some items take months to get to the final evolution, but you will make so much profit in that time that you really shouldn't care. It's a very quick way to get tons of gold. If you are tight on money, sell anything you can to get just one item. Then follow this guide and you will get more and more gold to buy more and more items. The more items you have, the more profit you gain per evolution. It's especially nice when you have two different items that evolve in the off-setting weeks. So you get profit every week. Just remember that patience is key and you will be rich in no time!

don't forget about when new items are introduced, certain items can cause a major drop in price on other items

best example, the OMG boxes
once they were introduced certain store items dropped far below the half way point. some items that have a half price of about 20k were selling for anywhere from 10k - 19k on the market, that amounts to a profit between 1k and 10k

but it didn't last for long, the prices stabilized quickly and by the end of the week they were back above the half way mark, you can still find an occasional item being sold for less then half price, but its harder to find them and they're not as low as they went when the OMG boxes were introduced

also gaia will stop selling the OMG boxes at the end of the month, so you should get your hands on a few of them and hold onto them to sell later in the year

I'm starting to question that. I thought the same would happen with the Piggy Plushie but all it did was keep going down.

Well if one person does it yes. But if an item sells five times before another listing is created, then it has the same effect. Just not by one person. Either way the price ends up in the same place.
