The only bad thing about leveling all the way up, is that all your enemies do the same thing. Trust me. And it totally sucks.

I agree, it's normally easier to play when you are lower leveled with good magic junctioned to your stats and good abilities.

I usually try to stay a relatively low lvl. I'll get the Card ability early on and just Card all enemies to avoid exp. Still gives AP though. That way I still get my GF abilities. I end up training a little once I have a bunch of GFs to level them up. But base character lvl doesn't help much. Only definitive change you will notice is that enemies that used to be real weak will be tougher and have higher magic to draw.

Because of the way FF8 works, levels are meaningless; in fact, most people say to stay as low as possible.
ALL enemies will stay around your levels. No reason to ever level, really.

You know I noticed that the name of this thread is "is my squall good?" The problem I see with all the responses, in my opinion, is that everyone is just talking about weapons & lvls. If I were to judge a character good or not I would need to hear how their magic & abilities were setup.
For instance on my 100 hour play time save, Squall is Lvl 100, equipped w/ The Punishment. Abilities: Mug, Magic, Draw, GF Hp: Death or full-life Str: Quake Vit: Meltdown Status Atk: Break or Stop Status Def: Pain, Blind, Stop or Break Ele Def: Ultima, Firaga, Blizaga, and/or Thundaga
I'm doing this from memory so it may not be completely accurate, but you get the gist of what I'm saying right.
