I'm interested in the educational backgrounds of you folks. Specifically, did you attend public or private schools? Please be specific (ex. "Private university and private high school, public elementary school.") What impression did either leave, if any?
This is really more just my own curiosity at work than anything, but another thread got me wondering if experience in school influences political leanings to a significant degree.
And, to answer the question, I've attended private schools my whole life (university included, currently a junior.)

Homeschooled for the most part, technically private schooled, we had an umbrella group. Not to say "my mommy taught me" but rather, I took college courses instead of regular classes, and read a lot...

Homeschooled from kindergarten until now (age eighteen). I'm being home-colleged, too. I do a lot of reading on my own, but I'm studying Amrican government with two of my siblings and my mother.

Public school for my entire elementary experience (kindergarten through 5th grade). My memory of those years aren't clear but I believe I did good.
Then for my 6th grade year I went to a private school, which ******** rocked. The school was smaller and there weren't as many students, and the teachers paid more attention to each kid. We could order our food (or our class went out for lunch sometimes) and we had our own set of workbooks so we could work ahead. We went on field trips often, everyone had a Game Boy and Pokemon. In general it was more fun but sadly that didn't last long. (I only went for that year)
Then for the rest of middle school and all of high school it as public school again. Middle school sucked something horrible, my grades were bad and the kids were mean, and I don't think I handled the transition well if that makes any sense. High school was mediocre, not great but not bad.
Now I'm currently attending classes online, a private university, for an AA in IT. It isn't bad, I would prefer to have the traditional experience (some classes are okay online, like math, but with something like Philosophy it's not as cool as a physical classroom would be). My grades are good and I'm not stressed out.
If I ever have kids I'll make sure I have the means to send them to private school, or hire them a private tutor. Anything to keep them out of government controlled schools.

I attended public school until 8th grade. I spent one year in an all gifted public school in New Orleans, then I moved to Kansas, where all gifted schools were private and I couldn't afford to go. I didn't finish middle school or high school. Long story. I just studied on my own and got my GED and took the SATs Now I'm in college at the University of Kansas and triple majoring! pirate The odd thing is-I'm way ahead of most freshman, most juniors too, for that matter. rofl

Or getting a majoring in one subject and minoring in another. How does that work?

Not from the same country so my education is different. Public school from the age of 4 till 16 and now in the first year of college. Apparntly even though my education is critisized for being too easy nowadays, it is still higher than the standards of public schools in the US because of the gradual decline of its schools teaching quality in the past 20ish years I believe.

Public school until 7th grade, then I was homeschooled until 8th grade. In 8th grade I joined a homeschool/parent partnership school program. It was basically college-style classes where parents or friends could attend. Very open, very laid back, but still in the public school system.
I officially un-enrolled this year (dropout, withdrew; whatever you want to call it) and I'm going to get my GED. This year would be my senior year.
I don't plan to go to college. No money and I don't feel like being a slave to a student loan office. I'm going to continue my education but on my own with the aid of a library and the internet. Not that employers will care.
I am a self-taught computer geek and graphic artist. I studied ecology religiously for the past 4 years, too. I like looking at the medals and certificates I've won for environmental competitions. whee

Melchior727 Before I go to the University I want to go to I was thinking about double majoring. Or getting a majoring in one subject and minoring in another. How does that work? Depends on the university, but usually you have your requirements for one major - say, economics. At my university, it requires x number of econ courses with certain mandatory ones (ex. intro to econ, macro, micro) and x number of mandatory mathematics courses. If you want to double major, there are usually similar requirements that are tweeked a bit so you can fit both major's requirements + gen ed. Minors are the most different. Again using my university as an example, to minor in economics you'd have to take intro to econ, macro, and micro, and then three 200-level or higher econ courses of your choosing. That's the jist of it, but it varies from university-to-university.
