I love rainbows

See, adverts nowadays are evil, they trick us by being philosophical, or happy, or fun. They give us a life message in twenty seconds and try to connect it to their product. However, this does mean there are some beautiful or entertaining adverts out there, so post links or images from adverts that you really love, and we'll see if we can decide if there are any really great ones that might even be called artistic.

You've touched on a passion of mine.

Legendary Guinness surfer ad.

Almost as legendary, and suitably awesome Stella Artois ad.

And another, that I like a lot. For Land Rover.

I find it deeply pleasing when something cynical and boring or cynical and inane can before - for a moment - something slightly more rewarding.

Like this, all real.

There was an ad a while back that had a poem or recitation of something in the background, while the car it was advertising drove around in the background at night. It was quite beautiful, for real, and really made me smile in a 'depressing but happy' way.

Pound coin dominoes Here

And similarly, the Honda Rube Goldberg Machine.

Those always amuse me.

Honda adverts were always great. 'You gotta hate something...'

I find that ads are generally better than the programming. 'Cause they're trying to tell you to buy the product, so they generally put a lot of effort into making it really great, plus the short time means that they don't have to carry it off for long.

Sprint Crime Deterrent

This is one of my favorites. I can't really think of any other commercials I really like, at least not at the moment.

If you find any sort of advertisement to really speak to you, or you find it visually striking then the designer who made it has done what they were trying to do. Companies hire designers and artists to create the image they want to get across, so if one is especially striking it is the talent of the designer who did it.

Part of being a great graphical designer or anything involved in the advertising trade is being able to get that sort of reaction out of people.

Er... hello, I'm new here. I was going to post in the introductions thread, but... it looks like it's derailed. So, here I am instead. Can't really think of a better way to start anyway, than introducing you guys to The Big Ad. Not the best recording, mind, but... Australian beer commercials win.

That doesn't make me any happier about it...I don't want to be tricked into buying, I want to be sold to.

BMW did an amazing set. Short films, but still adverts. Directed by the best, with good actors.

Here's one. "Ticker."
