Nausicaa of the Valley Wind takes place on a distant world where, thousands of years after the Seven Days of Fire (a huge pan-global war involving the powerful God Soldiers), much of that world is being engulfed by a toxic and poisonous fog, the Miasma. Nausicaa, the daughter of the venerable king of the Valley of Wind, is caught up in the politics of power when an Imperial cargo ship carrying an ancient, inactivated God Soldier crashes in the valley. Faced with Imperial forces seizing her small village, Nausicaa must put her own comfort aside to save her people and protect that which she holds dear -- which includes the animals and plants of the Miasma.

Saw this in Japanese class too, just before it came out on DVD (literaly 2 weeks before). Anyway, this is tied for 2nd on my list. I love it, the story is very original. And the bugs are soooo cool, and the squerl fox (I don' member if that was what it was called) was so adorible. Pluse, after we watched it in class, we were all humming the song. It's just a great movie.

I just saw this one three weeks ago. Even though my friend thought it was too boring of a movie for her taste, I thought it was great. If I am not mistaken, it was their first film. And a brillant first film it was.

Their first film was actually Laputa, back then in 1986.... please correct me if I'm wrong.

There's nothing to apologize for. 'Twas a simple mistake (I do that coonstantly).

Personally the movie didn't follow along with the manga very well. I've only read the first one, and it was like half the movie (when there is 7 total) and some of the scenes were different... but I still liked it ok.

Is the manga worth it's money? I checked out how much it was a long time ago and it was around $15.

I prefer the manga over the anime, cause the manga had a better storyline (if you keep reading till book 7 or 8... I don't remember how many there are sweatdrop ). It would have been cool if they had kept close to the manga, but its alright that they didn't. You can't always do that in movies...

i love this movie its my favorite miyazaki movie. but i love the manga a lot more. the manga gives so much more to the story and characters. the movie only tuches on what the manga is about.

I'm currently reading the manga, and I've seen the movie, and must say that it was amazing! ^^ I liked the concept, very anti-war, pollution, and such. I thought it was beautiful, as are all the Studio Ghibli movies.

I love that movie! Truly amazing indeed, but when my friend lent it to me, she told me that she hated the ending and I thought, "Oh, does somebody die or something?" So through-out the entire film, I was waiting for Nausicaa to die. sweatdrop Haha, but I liked the ending and it's one of my favorites. 3nodding
