Hotaru no Haka (Grave of the Fireflies) takes place during WWII. Seita, 14, and Setsuko, only 4, flee from their homes one night when the air raid alarm sounds. With the fall of the fire bombs, they become orphans and homeless. This film, based the semi-autobiography by Akiyuki Nosaka, relates the tragedies of war as Seita and Setsuko struggle to survive with only each other to hold onto.

Grave of the Fireflies was absolutely sad. I love the way that *spoiler*the beginning is the end, the ending is the beginning... you get what I mean. It was very, very sad. But since I love sad movies, I liked it a lot.

In all honesty, Grave of the Fireflies was the sadest movie I have ever seen but it's also one of the best I've seen! <His aunt is so cruel, stealing from them! and when they died...>>

I was very pissed at their aunt. She treated them like they were a couple of bums who hated her. They are only children, how could she do that!
And I agree about the saddest part. My eyes were very teary.

Let's all face it. Their aunt was a witch with a "b" mad

I found the saddest part to be when <<Seita "cremated" Setsuko>> And I love what you said about the begninng and end thing Takiko 3nodding
In only one way does this remind of the movie "X" and that's just because <<everyone died...but then Kamui did survive so I guess that doesn't count.>>

But then that's not fair to Hotaru no Haka...I pretty much laughed at the end of X because of how bad it was (sorry, just my opinion on it). Great animation and storyline...needed a better ending than <<Kamui holding Fuma's head in his hands>> rolleyes

Really? I thought you'd already seen that sweatdrop Sorry, but at least you know what to expect? xp

It was my own fault, for highlighing the spoiler. I already knew that Kamui would survive. But CLAMP isn't done with X anyway, so they'll probably have a different ending.

Let's hope. I'm already tottering on the edge deciding whether to buy the rest of the manga (I only own the first 2) but if that's how it ends I'll lay off.

In the interview they had with one of the members of CLAMP though, nobody knew how they were going to end the manga series yet so they really winged the ending of the movie. *hopes there's a sequel*

That was one of the most inspirational movies I've ever seen. It showed me that the Japanese had an even rougher time during WWII than the Americans. And it was so true to how it really was during those times. It's definately one of my favorites.

I wanted to save it in a disc and give it to my History teacher, but in the end, I gave up.
