So I entered a tektek contest today. I based the colors around the hermes moon item and ninja headband. It was haaaaaaaaarrrddd. D: D: D: Normally I do something like gold, purple, and white.
What are you favorite themes and items to use for tekteking? Do you even go by the colors in one or two items, or just make it up as you go?

Absolutely Black and Green, those are my fav colors anyway...
Secondly, I would say Black and Gold....

I usually go with the color of the hair. If I can pick, I chose a bright color. Then I add an item that looks good with that color and go from there.

Normally I just pick an item I've never used before or one I haven't used in a while and build an avatar around it. I find it helps me expand my knowledge of items and how they go together.

I pick colors that not everybody uses. I like to stand out in a crowd but it sometimes makes it hard to match. So I play around with items and hopefully I can get something that turns out decent.

i usually pick 2 colors that accent eachother well, then match them. finish it off fwith a filler color like gold, black, white, and then any other color that needs to be added

I always use blue with another colour.
Its fun to experiment with different shades of blue, and to add colours like red that not everyone would use with blue.

Man, you know how HARD it is to base an entire single color of ONE Gaia item and nothing else on site matches it? Its a pain...
But I continue to try!
I love color scheming, too. I will never wear an outfit if the colors aren't close enough or EXACT!
