User Image Darkness. It danced an exotic ballad across the sky, scraping the earth with twitching tendrils and twining about the massive trunks of trees. How quaintly had the last dregs of day melted into the ethereal bonds of twilight.

The moon struggled to illuminate the desolate woods, clawing through tormenting tangles of the intermingling canopy. Only bitter tatters here and there slipped through, forming minute pools of dappled silver to caress the woodland foliage. The foliage that now crunched beneath steadily churning paws as a lightly hued she-wolf carved her with through the vehement dark. Why? Simply for some shelter to ease her mind. She had felt it on the gentle wind whisking about: rain was to come and soon. If what she believed to be true was indeed true the rains would break out before the birth of dawn. Albeit her love of the cleansing downpours a dousing would sate nothing in the midst of foreign land in the dead of winter.

Thus, with a shake of a creamy pelt she sought harder for a shelter. It seemed the brittle landscape was barren of such an offering however, as only the looming shapes of trees and the foreboding shadows caught her spring green gaze. A pity, really.

Heaving a quiet, tumultuous sigh, Vanya settled upon her haunches briefly. If she could find nothing perhaps she could build her own, but that would consume precious time…

Then again, did not weaving through the woods consume precious time as well?

Another sigh ensued, as did a drop of a maw upon now crossed forepaws. Her stomach pitched in a desiring gurgle of a plea. Another sigh. Another let down. No shelter, no food, and the promise of rains in winter. Absolutely delightful.

His body shuddered as he moved through the woods, the hint of moonlight breaking in the horizon but doing nothing to light the path he was on. In fact the shimmering rays did nothing more then enhance his fear. The light it cast only created shadows and shadows were where all sorts of evil things lurked. Adrieal wanted nothing to do with evil things. He shuddered again, the very marrow in his bones chilling with the terror he was feeling. And over what?

Over things that wouldn't be frightening it were daylight out.

But that was Adrieal for you. He would fear his own shadow if it weren't for the fact that it followed him everywhere. One couldn't be afraid of what one was attached to.

He quickened his pace, moving now into a tight run in an almost frenzied gait. He eyes flattened against his skull and his tongue lolled out of the side of his mouth. And his face? Oh his face was a death mask, the white seeming to be the only thing that one could see against his dark green and black pelt. He continued running until, because of the lack of nightvision encompassing his eyes, he ran straight into something and stumbled into a falling roll.

He wasn't sure what he had hit. But, swore it felt like another breathing body.

Perhaps it was just his imagination?

Perhaps not..

Briefly she contemplated rising and searching for food. The thought soon dissipated, though when the crackle of foliage beneath fleeting paws caught her attention. Lifting her muzzle she nervously inspected the area, but that proved difficult in the nigh impenetrable gloom. It was just when she was considering fleeing the area when whatever had created the noise came to a halt...

and roughly smashed into her and toppled to the ground some feet away.

Unable to supress a yelp, Vanya drew her body inward, nearly burrowing her maw deep in her plumed tail out of fright. She had matured and strengthened herself, but in these gloomy woods her adult self was no more than a ghostly shell swathing her old childish ways. Then she had been fearful, much like Adrieal and had possessed a horrible stutter that often proved difficult to converse with another.

As she meekly called out, her stutter returned with full force which only made her more fearful to find out just what it was that had rammed into her. "H-he-hel-l-lo...?"

And it seemed all the effort she had applied to solve her displeasure with herself was absolutely meaningless. She felt very much like she had returned to the very point she had started. So as she trembled slightly, still searching for some sign of the creature that had intruded a bubbling anger aimed at herself re-surfaced, worsening than ever before.

"OOOOOOOOOOOOOW!" it was a loud whine, like a puppy would make though it came from a full grown teen.

Once the pain left, as much as it could in such a short amount of time, Adrieal realized what it was he had hit. Oh! No! A large female, he knew what kind of tempers females could have...remembered from his last encounter by one. He shuddered at the thought of it.

"I-I'm, s-sorry," he started, displaying his own stutter and because of his fear not realizing she too had shared in this cripplement. He held his head down low and tucked in his tail, half expecting her to strike out at him and half expecting her to consider him not worth her time and move on.

He hoped the latter happened.
