WHY?

I was part of the original SHRA/DNA for a few weeks or months before September 20th, 2006, becoming the role of Elsa Larson in place of another player, as I was a lurker then with a quest character.

That was when tragedy struck in my life, this being that because of my mental health state... well, long story short, that incedent placed me out of commission for almost an exact year, at least on Gaia Online. I came back, only to find out that the SHRA/DNA roleplay store became what it is today. It took much courage to come back and say that I might not be able to play the role of Elsa Larson anymore, permanantly. But with SSJ being the understanding person she is, I got a second chance in the new store.

This is where we begin: with the scraps of my quest character that I plan to remake.

What I know so far for my character (to be edited regularly)
Blank spots are unknown yet.

Quote:

Basic Information
Full name: Lorelie Olivia London
Superhero name:
Age: 16-17, I know she's still in high school.
Gender: Female
Location: Somewhere in New York (state)

Personality and Background
Character type: Bookworm-ish (I think, let me know what other suggestions you have)
Personality: She is very studious and into technology for her fun, that's about all I know. I'm unsure how to build a believable character around those interests.

Parents: I was thinking of a close stepparent or guardian.
Siblings: At least two.
Close Friends: She would have at least one.
What was their childhood/home like: I'm unsure what kind of home it would be, I was thinking it would be like a large town she would live in before the recruiting.

Which side do you want them to join? World Alliance (I think they were the good side in the new plot.)
Any ideas on how that should happen? Perhaps maybe an aquainttance of hers is on that side. I'm unsure how it would work though.

Powers Explanation
What is the primary power: (I want some sort of conjuration power, but I'm still not really sure about how it would work, maybe if she had scraps of wood, she could build a box or something, dunno.)
How does this affect your character's OUTSIDE appearance?
How does this affect your character's MENTAL state?

Did you think of a secondary power yet? Not yet
If so, what is it?
Does this affect your character's appearance?
What about its MENTAL state?

Is your character pleased to be an evolved? Unsure
Why or why not? Something bad happened within her past involving her evolved status, but she knows her potiential to change the world.
Does your character know any other evolveds? I was thinking a sibling of hers was also evolved, though on a much lesser scale than Lorelie.
Is anyone supportive of him/her? Her sibling/friend supports her.

At what age did powers manifest: 11-12
Where did this happen and WHAT happened:
Response of environment at this time:
Response of parents/siblings/friends:
Response of your character:

Looks and Appearance
Hair Length:
Hair Type:
Hair Color:
Eye Color:
Eye Shape:
Body Type:
Skin Color:
Length:
Weight:

Jewelry:
Upper Body Clothing:
Lower Body Clothing:

Scars or disfigurations or outward marks?
Anything I left out:

What direction do you want to take her in? What do you want to do with her? What kindn of character do you like to play?

Well, what power would you like her to have? All of my evolved characters originated from their powers. xD

Well, I was thinking of Animal Control originally for my quest character-Lorelie, but that will be cancelled because of the Secret Santa gifts. So hence, I was thinking of a conjuration character (give her some raw material and she could reform it into something useful), but that would seem godmody. In my eyes, anyway. (No, she can't make anything spontaneously, she needs raw material.)

Well it would depend on what she'd reform it in. Raleigh has dibs on reforming organic materials into animals. So the reforming would have to be into items only. You could divide such a power up at levels, tying control to age or experience.

Yeah, I had no intention into reforming matter into animals. Plants, maybe, but as a living thing, it seems to me that one would be taken by Raleigh, too, as far as I could tell.

Items only would be alright with me, and I would divide the item size by age as well as experience (say, at 18, if experienced she could do 27"x27" items, but if not, it could only be 18"x18", something like that, and at 20, 30"x30" or 20"x20", etc.)

In the meantime, I'm going to go soon. Anybody with suggestions, feel free to fire away. ^-^

But that seems boring to me. What would you be able to do with it? What kind of items could you create and what would you use them for?

First off I'd ask you what your writing style is like. What sort of character can you play firstly, what do you like to play secondly? Are you someone who creates malicious badasses or fluffballs? I come up with a persona or a mind set for my character and then flesh them out. Getting into your would-be characters head is a wonderful start because it allows you to easily flesh out all the other bits of them, their wardrobe, their past, their methods for using their powers even.

You mentioned a few things right off the bat:
Quote:
Character type: Bookworm-ish (I think, let me know what other suggestions you have)
Personality: She is very studious and into technology for her fun, that's about all I know. I'm unsure how to build a believable character around those interests.

Okay so she's bookwormish. She likes technology. Neat. She could be a mechanic, she could like cars, or planes, or antique clocks. She could be introverted when it comes to dealing with people (on account of her being shut in a library all the time). She could wear a necklace made up of washers from machines she's fixed (like trophies). Her talents could be metal based, or whatever.
Do you see how I'm building the character around what you've given so far?
It doesn't have to be an epiphany, the true shine of a character isn't in the bio, but in how it's played. Just find some sort of creative juice and go from there. Worry about the technicalities afterwards, because polishing it up is half the fun of making a good character.

Regarding powers: Creating something for use as a tool is as generic as things come. For example a water Evo might take a cup of water and use it to put out a fire (purpose: fire fighting). They might put it down someone's throat and force it into their lungs (purpose: drowning). They might also make a likeness of them self in a fight to confuse an opponent. The ability will always be the tool with or without 'crafting' being a special power. Obviously some powers can't exactly make something 'alive' or real but on the whole most of it's just a cheap imitation of life anyway.

Also age shouldn't be a big factor nor should size to a major extent. A hundred feathers doesn't really equate to a brick of solid lead (unless its dealing with wind resistance perhaps). Also experience and common sense should always be the measure of a characters power in my mind. A shiftless layabout who doesn't train their powers is undoubtedly going to be worse off than someone younger who puts effort into controlling and strengthening their skills. This sort of skill growth is called organic. You bake a pie once chances are it burns, you bake pie a thousand times it tends not to (assuming you learn from mistakes). However I wouldn't worry too terribly about powers until you've figured things out. Honing your characters ability is like the final icing on the cake. A general idea should be good enough until you're done fleshing things out.

However as to 'conjuration' I see it as being the most humanistic quality out there. Tool building is what sets us apart from apes, not a god mod in my book. I like to use Terminator 2 as an example and as a power cap for myself, simple machines for the spur of the moment. Fancier things take more time and thought.

Eh, I hope this helps. It's not intended as a lecture though re-reading it kinda comes off as a bit preachy in my eyes.
