The snow was rather deep on the meadow and wading through it was tough going for the little usdia. She picked up her legs as high as possible to carve a path through the crunchy snow. She now regretted leaving the sheltered confines of the forest.
She managed to make her way into the trees and the snow seemed to almost instantly recede. Needless to say walking was far easier now and she picked up her pace. She wasn't sure where she wanted to go. She took in a mouthful of snow and allowed it to melt before swallowing it. To go home, or not to go home? She knew the forest like the bottom of her hoof but if she wasn't careful she could still get lost.
The snow picked up and swirled about her, chilling her to the bone. Winters back home were brutal and the winters away from the palefaces were starting to give them a run for their money. She did not fancy the cold in the least. All she needed was a blinding snow storm and a puma after her. That'd be lovely and in this forest, it could happen.
As she got farther into the forest the trees sheltered her from the brunt of the wind and snow. The squirrel trails were hard to find anymore under the snow but the bear and deer trails were easy as ever. She noticed a a few carefully snapped branches. It seemed two-leggers had been out hunting today. She wondered if Ayashe, the woman she lived with, had been among them.

Ayidan was laying down beneath the sheltering branches of a tree. He watched the snow drifting by, relaxed and fairly warm under here, all things considered. As he relaxed, he pondered his first winter, and how it had gone so far. He was pleased, it was nice, mostly.
Suddenly he heard the crunching of snow under some one's hooves. His head half jerked up and he watched, his eyes a little wide. Who was it? Some one he knew? A stranger? He had to guess a stranger... The crunches were too quite for a full adult, so, as he'd never met an Usdia and didn't know how comparatively small they were, he assumed it was a foal. What was a FOAL doing out here alone?

She continued on her way and crossed some bear dung. She took a quick sniff and could tell it was old. She wrinkled her nose slightly and kept going. This was an old game trail and that wasn't good. She strayed from the worn path and noticed some fresh bear claw marks on a sugar maple. The bear hadn't licked at the sap. She raised up on her hind hooves, supporting herself on the trunk of the tree and licked at the sticky goo. It was utterly delicious.
She had no idea there was a stallion anywhere near her. That would be a great cause of concern and stress for her. She had met a few good males however, so that would help a bit.

Ayidan watched the small female come into sight, and tilted his head. That was no foal... Oh dear. He looked nervous as she continues, then relaxes for a minute as she takes the time to enjoy the sap. She hadn't noticed him yet, he had time to try not to panic... She was sure to do so any moment, however, he wasn't exactly invisible. What to do, what to do...

Flower felt...odd. Like she was being hunted, or at the very least had a pair of eyes on her. Her ears swiveled behind her as she took one last lick of the sap and lowered to all fours again.
She looked around both sides of the tree and then turned to scan the area behind her. She jumped slightly as a rather large stallion stood a few metres away. Menacing feelings weren't exactly rolling off of him like a noxious fume so, perhaps he was safe to be around.
She felt her stomach tying in knots again. Any progress she had made was now gone. After all he had been just standing behind her watching her every move instead of just coming up and announcing his presence. Her ears laid back slightly. "H-Hello." She managed, her easy going English accent accompanied her baritone voice. She tried to steady her legs and not show any outward signs of her nervousness. But she was failing miserably.

Ayidan remained where he was laying, not getting up. He didn't want to loom over the smaller Soquili. He studied her for a long moment, then, shyly, whispered "H.... huh... Hello....." He didn't move, other then a nervous ear flickering, as he was unsure whether she was irritated, and also just his usual shy self.

He wasn't moving. So maybe, he didn't mean any harm? Could be. He was afterall just a regular Soquili. Not a skinwalker or a kalona. But then again that could be what he wanted to her think. 'Keep him talking.' She thought. "M'Flower...p-p-pleas'a ta....m-meet y-you." She said, a thick cockney brouge slipping through her words. A sure sign she was nervous. She backed up a bit and her rump hit the solid tree behind her.

Ayidan blinked to hear her stuttering too, but didn't know what to think. "I... I... I'm... Ayi... Ayid... Ayidan. It's... nuh.... nuh.... nice to muh... muh.... meet yuh... yuh... you too..." Oh gods, he sounded like a fool. She'd be laughing at him any minut.... Did she just bang the tree? "Uh... Uh... Are you.... a... all... rugh... right?" He thought about getting up but was concerned that he'd scare the other, since she seemed scared of HIM. And all he was doing was sitting here.

He was concerned? Well, that didn't fit into her theory. Perhaps he's a good stallion? She now knew they were out there. The mare forced herself to calm down. She seemed a little more at ease, physically. Flower nodded, to signify that she was all right. "Y-You just gave me a-a-a right start." She said sheepishly. "I w-was j-just a little u-u-unnerved 'cause y-you just l-looked at me a-a-a-and didn't announce y-y-yourself." She paused.
He seemed just as nervous as she did. Curious and curiouser.
"N-Not that that's y-y-your fault, you h-had no way o-of knowing a-and i-it's probably a b-bit i-irrational of me I-I have to admit." She said quickly, so he wouldn't fret about scaring her. "S'a p-p-pleasure to meet y-you Ayidan." She added, mentally willing her stutter to stop. He probably would have done something all ready if he was going to do anything dodgy right? The poor stallion seemed more nervous than she ever had. She hoped she hadn't made things worse for him.

"I... I... wuh... well I wuh.... was juh... just resting.... a.... and thuh... thought I huh....heard a fuh.... foal ap.... app... approaching. Whu.... what are yuh... you?" He looked most embarrassed at the question, but still. "I... I've nuh... never suh.... seen a so... so.... soquili yuh... your suh... suh... size... that wuh... wasn't a fuh... foal." He looked at his hooves, hoping the question hadn't offended the small mare, not sure if she was supposed to be like this or there had been something wrong with her, or what.

She nodded, feeling loads better now. "I-I'm a Usdia...to the two-leggers it means 'pony'. We're born shorter and stockier than Soquili such as yourself." She explained. "My parents were just as small, so, I guess we're supposed to be like that. I've met others around here as well after I left the land of the pale faces." The mare added. That was usually easier to explain than 'England' when most merely stared at her blankly. She had no idea her stutter was gone.

Ayidan listens, his eyes bright with curiosity. "I.... I suh... see." He pondered her, then slowly, carefully, he stood up. "We.... well that's interesting. I knu.... knew of other types like Kalona... a... and Fluh... flutter... I ha.. have a fuh... friend who is a flutter... But I didn't know wuh... we could be so different... Nuh... no o... off... offense!"

The mare nodded. "Oh yes! And none taken love." She said with a light laugh. "It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round I guess." She said with a smile. "I've heard of flutters but never met one...is it true they can be small enough to feed on Flowers then big enough to mate with a Soquili such as yourself?" She asked. The stallion had piqued her interest to say the least.

He smiles a little, and then flushes, confused by being called love, and then the mention of mating embarrassed him, especially since... well... never mind. "Oh... guh... good, wuh... wouldn't want to offend you." His stutter was getting a little better, as they talked, and he grew comfortable with her. "I don't knu... know about the suh... size thing, I've only suh... seen her in her full size, suh... so if she cuh... can, it's not suh... something I've seen."

She noticed his slight blush. 'Oh dear. Mincing words again.' She thought. "Erm...sorry about the...'love' thing...where I come from...s'like saying...'friend'." She explained, ears cocking back slightly. "Well, she sounds delightful." The mare added with a smile. "I've always wondered what it'd be like to fly." She mused aloud.
