For me, I like this pairing for quite a few reasons.

Both Shikamaru and Neji are characters I really like. It started out with me just randomly browsing fanfiction.net for random pairings. I eventually stumbled onto this one. As I read more and more, my interest in them grew and grew. And, I guess it grew to the point for me to make a guild about it! (Of course, it's also because Gaia didn't already have a guild for it, and I just figured "why not?")

Another reason is because I think their personalities just seem to mesh.
There's a whole opposites-attract thing, with Neji being hard-working and Shikamaru being lazy as hell. They could help each other "even out", so to speak, since they are both kind of on extremes, in reference to their personalities.
They are both incredibly smart. That's a similarity that could bond them closer together.
They seem to be more quiet. They aren't usually loud, and, to me, would prefer peace if they could have a say.
And, it certainly doesn't seem like they hate or dislike each other.
Besides, it doesn't have to be a mainstream pairing for fans to think that it could work, given the right circumstances

And, it's also aesthetically pleasing. I honestly think both characters are attractive and look attractive together. sweatdrop

All lovely reasons have been stated above. For those who aren't curious, my answer was because their personalities meshed. And that's already been explained so...meh~ there XD

Actually, that's how it happened to me at first. I just wanted to state a bunch of different reasons why I liked them.

I know nobody's posted here in a while, but I figure this would be a good place for me to start my career as a new member of this fantastic guild!

My infatuation with this particular pairing happened more as a convenience more than anything. I had been reading the whole "Chase after Sasuke" arc in the first part of the Naruto Manga; at this point I had already established that I really liked Shikamaru. By this time, I really wanted to write a story with my favorite genius, but had no clue as to what the plot would be or who to have him with. I was already a decent writer at the time (although I think I'm better now redface ) and was only looking for that little bit of insperation to actually getting me writing.
I found it while reading the manga and came across chapter 187. The cover picture for that part of the story was of one Neji Hyuga, seemingly in the morning, putting on his wrappings. It was pretty hot to see the tape between his teeth as he tightened it, but it was purly orgasmic to see the dark locks of hair falling around his face.
And the rest, they say, is history. Working diligently with my muses, they helped me come up with a one-shot story that placed Shikamaru and Neji together in what was supposed to be a one time thing.
That story was so popular though, posted on both FanFiction.net and AdultFanFiction.net, that my muses were able to convince me to continue writing that particular pairing. The Gentle-Fist Massage Series has just recently been completed, although I haven't finished it on FanFiction.net yet. sweatdrop
It's weird how just a simple craving to write a story with Shikamaru turned into me having a reputation on AdultFanFiction.net for writing pretty good ShikaNeji or NejiShika. (Well, that's what my reviewers say, anyway. eek )
...Okay, I probably got a little too detailed there, but that is the story of how I got into ShikaNeji. Damn Irish in me, always wanting to tell stories. I hope I entertained you enough!

Yea, that name kind of defeats the purpose of a nickname. Aren't nicknames typically shorter than the original name? Doesn't matter, I suppose. Someone will figure something out. blaugh
