It had been several hours since the two had set out on their journal to the Graveyard. Now finally getting the paws closer to the smell of dead animals and bones told them their small journal was almost to an end. Kirabo collapsed a few yards from the border of the pack. He was panting slightly as he turned to look at his foot the swelling had gone down but it still looked like it was not in good shape. Though it was healing nicely since he had only spring it that morning from catching a small Antelope that had just been born. The male smiled as he looked over to his female companion.

"Well Esther I believe we have made it."

"Indeed, it looks like we have," said Esther, forcing a smile. She tried to look positive, but her stance and her nerves betrayed her. She was nervous. She had a history, a bad past associated with a certain pack of hyenas, and although the prospect of being a part of another pack excited her, it made her nervous at the same time.

Her emerald eyes glanced around them, watchful for any other living creature. The bones of the long dead elephants decorated the environment, sinister to anyone who wasn't a hyena. Her gaze transferred to her companion, glancing down at his injured paw and ankle, oping that he was feeling better. She had met Kirabo only that day, and yet it already seemed as if they had been friends for much longer than that. It was he who had both inspired and encouraged her to seek out this hyena pack with him, as they both had been wandering alone for too long.

"Well," Esther sighed, "I'm at a loss of what to do now." She was loathe to admit it, but now that they had gotten there, she wasn't sure what to do, or where to go from there. "Any ideas?"

"Well right now I think we need to rest for the night. My leg needs to heal a bit more before we try to join a pack. I don't want them thinking I'm weak." He said as he moved over to a small cave looking entrance. He sniffed around only smelling dead animal he venture in. It was deep enough for the two to hide in. He came back out looking for Esther.

"Come on Its safe." He said wincing slightly as he moved over to lay down and rest and guard at the same time. He was going to let Esther take the first s**t of sleeping.

Esther watched as Kirabo found a small cave-like burrow that was large enough for the two of them. If hyenas could blush, she would have at the closeness of the quarters, but she managed to hide it well, or so she thought, and followed him in. She saw that Kira planned to take first watch shift. Esther was terribly tired, but Kira was injured, and she had to insist that he sleep first.

"Kira, I think I'll take the first shift, if you don't mind. I'm not very tired, and you really need to get some sleep. Sleep will help that wound heal faster, and as you said, you wouldn't want to seem weak to the other hyenas." She tried to make the last part a joke, but in her own mind, she knew how she was going to react once she got in front of those other hyenas. However, she would worry about that when she got to it.

Going over, she nudged Kira with her nose, staring down at him with what she hoped was a persuasive expression.

Kirabo looked into her emerald green eye's with his own brilliant red ones. He then turned away slight and got up and moved over and laid down not to far. He curled up and snuggling into his own self as he closed his eyes trying to sleep. He didn't sleep to well worried about the things to come. He finally calmed after an hour and slept somewhat peaceful for the rest of the shift. He then woke and moved over and nudged Esther by licking her forehead slightly.

"My turn." He said waiting for her to move so he could take her place.

Esther had let her mind wander, knowing that her senses would alert her if anything came within five yards of their burrow. Her memories came and went as she recalled details from her past, when she'd been a part of a respected clan, when she'd been loved. When she had felt like she belonged to something.

She jumped when she heard movement, and noticed that it was Kirabo. A few hours had went by, not enough for him to sleep, but she wasn't going to argue. He came over and licked her on the forehead. She started a bit, startled and touched at the motion, but she was too tired to really think about it. With a tired nod, she stumbled to the back and all but collapsed onto the ground. She curled up on herself and drifted into a fitful sleep.

Kirabo stayed awake for the rest f the night leaving Esther to sleep since she had been doing so much for him help him where he felt it should have been the other way around. He looked back at her then he looked out he knew it was getting more and more cold as the night passed. He finally got up and moved over and nuzzled up beside her so they could share warmth. But he didn't sleep he only rested his head on his paws and watched the entrance.

He then two began to think about his past and how his mother had so devoted change him into a male that would only do things for her or other female. He shivered softly as he remember the beatings and lashing of the tongue. He began to sqwrim as he whimpered and snuggled closer into Esther seeking comfort.

Despite how tired she was, Esther's sleep was restless, and she woke when she felt a form settle next to her. Her nose identified it as Kirabo, and she shrugged to herself, assuming that he wanted to share some warmth. It wasn't until he started squirming slightly, that she could tell something was troubling him. It hadn't occurred to Esther to ask if Kira had also had a troubled past when he was young.

Lifting her head, she settled her muzzle across his back, a gesture she always remembered to have comforted her.

She sighed, and blinked a few times before asking, "Is something wrong, Kira?" She didn't want to be nosy, but she didn't like the sight of him so anxious. Esther also knew how much of a help it was to sometimes be able to talk to someone, even if it wasn't about her past, just talking about anything helped her to feel, somewhat normal again.

He snuggled into her softly nodding his head. "It just hit me...I'm extremely nervous now." He said softly as he looked slightly to her.

"I don't have...the strength like normal males. I'm going to get all walked over and I know the females will since it and they will be all over me in a heart beat I won't have a moments rest. Cause I can't say no to a female...I just can't." He said as he let out another whimper.

"What am I going to do Esther?" He said looking back to the entrance of the cave.

Esther was unsure of what to say. Both of them were nervous, as well they should be. They were attempting to join a clan that they had never met before, and they had no clue where to begin. Neither of them were strong enough to fight their way in either.

Esther sighed, "We're just going to have to be as strong as we can. Show them that though we are not the strongest, or the toughest, we are clever, and we deserve to be a part of this clan. We need to make them see how much good we can do."

The mostly white male snuggled into for more warmth as he nodded. "All right." He said as he closed his eyes for a few moments before opening them again to watch the entrance.

"If...I promise to be at your side and stay there picking up the slack would...would you do the same for me?" He asked hesitently as he waited for her reply.

"Of course," said Esther, after only a moment's pause. She and Kirabo were friends and companions in this struggle together. She would not desert him now. She knew well that she would have to rely on him heavily to get over her past. Esther needed friends now and Kirabo was the best that she had. The only friend that she had.

She snuggled in closer to Kira, enjoying the warmth and the feeling of companionship, and she let her mind rest and wander until the day broke, and some very watery sunlight shone into their small burrow. She yawned and stretched slightly, loathe to leave the comfort of their small cave. However, she was hungry, and she had to bet that Kira was too.

Stepping out slightly, she glanced back and forth, alert to any other figures in the area, but she saw nothing. "Kira, I think I will go hunting and see what I can find."

He yawned slight nodding as he curled up around himself now that her warmth had left him. "I could use a good meal." He said as he finally push himself to wake as he stood up shake as he looked back at his paw that was barely even swollen now. He smirked slight.

"Hey Esther its healing!" He exclaimed a little before she left. He hobbled over to the entrance as he looked out upon the lands that boarded the Graveyards.

Esther smiled over her shoulder at Kirabo as she left. She was glad that his leg injury was healing. They both had been worried about presenting a weak visage to the other hyenas in the graveyard pack. After all, they wanted to seem impressive if they wanted to be accepted. The idea of joining another pack still inspired fear for her, but she squashed the feeling. She would have to deal with it sooner or later anyway. For now, she needed to hunt.

It was not easy. She decided to leave the graveyard completely for several reasons. Even if she managed to find prey in the graveyard lands, she was not entitled to it as she was not part of the pack. After she had cleared the lands, she managed to pick of a small and weak antelope off of a herd grazing nearby. It was not an easy catch, but she managed it, outmaneuvering the young buck at the last moment. She brought him down quickly and relished at the feeling of fresh blood on her lips.

She dragged the carcass back with her, and hoped that she did not come across any stranger hyenas on the way. After all, another female could pull claim on her food, because she was on her lands.

Kirabo meet her not far into the grave lands as he nodded to her as he looked around. "You eat first think of it as a reward for getting such a feast." He said smiling as he sat down his chest puffed up as he looked around filled with pride that he was in the lands of a pack he might soon join and that he did not come alone.

He then looked over to Esther and smiled a goofy smile as he though about what the pride might do with them. Would they let them stay close or would they break off any relation ship they might or could make. He then sighed as he closed his eyes only for a moment as it let the smells of the graveyard wash over him. It smelt of blood old and new as well as bones and pure death. He then opened his eyes to looked over to see how Esther was doing with the carcass.
