arrow NOTE: If you are a Gryffindor, please don't take offence to this, because I know that most of you are great people.

arrow OK, seriously. Lately I have been spending a lot of time in the HP forum, and AT LEAST once every day I see a topic or post bashing Hufflepuffs. For some reason everybody thinks that we are useless or dumb, but SERIOUSLY! WE AREN'T! AND WHAT SUPRISED ME MOST WAS THAT IT WAS ALMOST ALL GRYFFINDORS WHO POSTED THEM! crying True Gryffindors are supposed to be loyal, brave and compassionate. I'm just mad because Hufflepuffs can be just as good as everybody else. Look at Cedric!

Frankly...I think it is because Hufflepuffs are considered to be too soft and to be rejects. In the hpss the sorting hat said that Helga Hufflepuff would just take the rest of the students who didn't belong in one of the other three, so maybe people just think of them like so many others: "a load of duffers" (<--hagrid)

But, I think it's completely ridiculous. If every Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw possessed exactly the same traits as they are stereotypically portrayed to have then Hogwarts would be ruined: all of the Ravenclaws would be too obsessed with their studies to venture away from the library, the Gryffindors would all die because of their unnecessary heroics, the Slytherins would be so obsessed with Machiavellian tactics that they would self-destruct and probably take a few kind Hufflepuffs with them.

Proof that not everyone is like their house resides in several characters really...Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) as a Gryffindor was unloyal to his friends and betrayed them; Snape, though not entirely good, was certainly not evil and proved himself for Lily's sake to the very end; Cho Chang, though probably intelligent, still put excessive amounts of time into relationships (Cedric, Harry, Roger Davis, etc.); Tonks is basically the coolest person ever, became a successful auror, and was a Hufflepuff alumni (don't believe me then check out jkr's web site).

It just comes down to a stupid stereotype established in book one of the series. I hope that my answer helped...sorry it was so long.

If any Gryfs are bashing the Hufflepuffs they just be hatin'. >_>
Lol, no. Actually I don't really understand why anyone would bash 'em.
I use to think they were just a bunch of hippies, I don't any more, but when I did I never bashed 'em.

Any person in Gryffindor that bashes the Hufflepuff house really belongs in Slytherin, lol. xP
Just ignore what other people might say, they're just ignorant. x]

Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Slytherin are houses with certain traits, abilities or skills. While as this does not mean Hufflepuff is any lesser than them, given the honorable nature of Helga Hufflepuff willing to teach all that had the will to learn, it does bring a certain dull spectral to the Hufflepuff house.

As seen in the book, Hufflepuff has nurtured many successful people- but at the same rate- so have the other houses. This is not even mentioning that the two houses mainly described are usually, if not always, Slytherin and Gryffindor.

Yeah you're probably right. smile

I think Hufflepuffs are supposed to be loyal, true, and honest, though. I can't remember where I heard that. (It was after I made this topic.)

The Gryffindors who were probably bashing us Hufflepuffs probably didn't even take the quizes. They probably just say it. neutral

I'm a Hufflepuff, and not because I "don't belong to any other house." It's because I'm just, loyal, patient, and hard working. Even the books explained you had to have at least one of those qualities or you wouldn't be excepted into her house.

Any way, you see, I'm not brave like Gryffindor, smart like Ravenclaw, or cunning like Slytherin, so the only other logical place would be Hufflepuff. But wait, here's the catch, if I wasn't just or loyal, then I wouldn't be able to get in. So, if you don't have those qualities, then you might be placed in another house.

Look at Neville. I mean, honestly, when we first met him did you think he was Gryffindor material? No. But in the end he proved himself worthy of his house!

I believe the sorting hat judges on your potential, what you could be. It places you in the house you would succeed most in.

I think each house is like a family member living under one roof: each has their own unique personality, but you need each of them to get a job done! If you take one out, the house will fall apart.

Okay, I'm done. xd Anyway, in short, I think each out is equally important to Hogwarts! I commend Helga for her act of kindness. I mean, what would happen to the poor kids who weren't brave, cunning, or smart?

These are my thoughts also. Whilst Gryffindors certainly aren't saints, I think that these people just chose that house because Harry's in it. The same kind of lameos that choose Slytherin because "omg im lyk so evil & draco is hot!" sweatdrop

Just because Hufflepuff are 'the rest' doesn't mean anything. Sometimes the rest is better than cunning, or loyality is better than intelligence 3nodding People who bash other houses for their attributes obviously failed to get the message throughout the books that no matter what other groups are like, if we don't all work together, we will fall together instead!

It doesn't matter so much what prejudice people say. They're ignorant of the wonders of being as nice as the Hufflepuff kids. (:

honestly, no one really pays that much attention to that house same with ravenclaw....the most amount of people are in slytherin and gryffindor (sry if i spelled them wrong) but there isnt anything wrong with those houses, its just you have to be the better person and just brush off those people who are saying mean stuff about hufflepuff (sry for spelling) but no matter what you'll encounter people who are dumb so just let them be dumb....but dont let them get u down!!! xd

I would say because all of the other houses have distinct character traits. Gryffindor is brave, Ravenclaw is smart, Slytherin is cunning. All Hufflepuffs really have is "hard-working" as a description for their house. They're thought to be the "extra" house for people who didn't get into the other more specified houses. Also Hufflepuff is a silly name, especially when compared to Slytherin. 3nodding

Not to say they're useless! Cedric wasn't useless!
