Did you want the story to end? Did you wish Fakir had written a different ending?

Yes and no... It was definitely time for Drosselmeyer's power to fade away, yet I still wanted Ahiru and Fakir to end up together. crying

I was satisfied with the ending, actually. Fakir and Ahiru were absolutely adorable together, but after the story ended her staying human would have been a bit strange and perhaps a bit unfair.

Although the story ended for us, I like to think that Fakir was going to write her with a choice. So that, like the necklace, she always has a chance to take it off and change back to a duck, and live a simpilar life... But she also has that option of staying with Fakir...
If they had just written it off as her staying human, we would have some how felt jipped, that even though she gave up the necklace with his heart piece, it didn't matter. Even if he only leaves her as a duck for a little bit, it still lets her get a chance to find out if she wants it.

I agree...
Although I was sad that Ahiru didn't get to stay human, the series ends in such a way that it lets you imagine what happens next, instead of just telling you. Kind of like what the oak tree said: "The beginning is an ending, and the ending is a beginning..."

Now that I think about it that way, you guys all have made an excellent point! Fakir was still writing when the show ended - the part of the story WE saw might be over, but the story itself is still going, at least until he decides to finish it. I knew at the time it was meant to be a bittersweet, "lessons learned" sort of ending but I still couldn't help but feel it was a little unfair to the two who got left behind, even if I knew they were satisfied with how things had gone. XD
It leaves things up to the person watching the show to decide how things develop in the future. That's really a fun way to think about it. :3

I liked the ending the way it was. It was bitter-sweet but satisfying. It closed all the sub-plots and fully satisfied my needs as a viewer.
Ahiru got what she wanted. Fakir got what he wanted. Rue got what she wanted. Mytho got what he wanted. They were all happy. Because it isn't the generic happy ending, doesn't mean it wasn't happy. The WHOLE point for Ahiru was to accept herself and see she COULD be HAPPY that way and help others, that she could dance. Plus her real friends (Rue, Mytho, Fakir and Autor) didn't forget her. Fakir loved her so much, he doesn't care how she looks. *That's* love. If she were to turn into a girl? That'll ruin all the beauty of the relationship and cater just self-insertion and projection wishes of the viewers. It's alright in fanworks but in canon? Gross way to ruin a perfect ending.
It's like having Rue without the Raven's blood which hurts and twists her. Point is that Mytho loved and accepted her that way: the way she is. Likewise with Fakir and Ahiru: he accepted her real self, who is a DUCK.

I was so happy about Fakir and Ahiru and I was just waiting for it to happen but I bought the DVDS, watched them all in a matter of days and was up at 2am watching the last episode silently screaming "NOOOOOOOOOO WHY IS SHE A DUCK SHE NEEDS TO MARRY FAKIR"

It was a bittersweet ending. It felt all happy and bubbly, but there was still the fact that Myuto didn't choose Ducki and the fact that she's stuck as a duck now. But.... I still loved it! If it had ended with her as a human I probably would have felt it was wrong or defied the whole series.
