Welcome to Gaia! ::

Have you all heard the tale of the original Buffy's Room? This wasn't just something that me and Spammer created for Gaia. Buffy's Room originated back in 1998 on IRC, and we want to recreate the feeling of those good ol' days! If you're bored or looking for someone to chat with and no one is on Gaia try logging on to our new Buffy's Room channel.

You can log on to IRC using one of several IRC clients. Microsoft Comic Chat is probably the most newbie friendly. Trillian supports IRC as well. Then there is mIRC for all of you elite people out there. wink

Once you've downloaded and installed your choice of client, check out the corresponding post below for instructions on how to connect to this wonderful new dimension of Buffy's Room!

Trillian

1. After you install Trillian and run it for the first time you should see this:



Just enter a nickname and choose a picture.

2. Next, unless you want to use Trillian for these things as well, you can disable all of these plugins:



3. Now that we're up and running click on Trillian>Trillian preferences...



4. Now click on Plugins...



5. Check the box for IRC then click on Identities & Connections...



6. Click on Add new connection>IRC...



7. Now fill out the information just like I have here. For the nickname, username and user info, just put the same thing. It'd probably be best if you check the box that says "Automatically connect to this account at startup" too. Once you fill it out, click on "Connect," then click on "Close" in the bottom right hand corner.



8. Now that you're connected to the server you need to join our channel! Click on the little clear ball looking button, then click on "Join a channel"



9. Type in our channel's name and click OK...



10. A window should pop up like this, and you are ready to chat with us! Say hi! wink

Now that Trillian is all set up, next time you want to come on IRC you only have to start Trillian, then follow steps 8-10.

This is just a post in support of the information WobinA has given you all, and also to say that there's usually always somebody in the room to make you feel warm, even if we're not at our keyboards at that particular time.

The best thing about the irc medium is that communication is just faster there, so we can discuss things a bit easier than we can on message boards...which is something I've always enjoyed. The same rules that are in the guild apply to the irc chat room, which is to say there isn't many rules at all of course. XD

The crew/(or 'owners' in irc-speak) will try to think of some cool stuff we can do on the irc chat room as well as all the fun stuff we make for you on the guild, so be on the look-out! The irc channel isn't meant to replace the guild, but just something to enhance it!
