I do both, It really depends on the type of mood I am in. Items usually add to combos, which is what im all for. And it ususally makes things hectic, and wild!
when no item battles show the flow of attacks somene can use to beat another person.
Only thing is alot of grabbing goes on, and advance techs which are lame.
Waveshine gets me annoyed

I hate all people that say the use of items are cheap/cheating. I say that if its a part of the game, then it isn't cheating. Nor can they be cheap. The player using the items can be cheap but not the item itself.

Games are supposed to be fun.
Items make the game more spontaneous.
Surprises, pleasant or otherwise, are fun.
The choice is clear.

The items exist; they're meant for you to use. If you don't, you'll find that something is missing. For example, like eating a cupcake with no icing.
Items = More fun.

Most of my opponents don't like using items, but I personally think its stupid. Items just provide a little more variety to the game, and instead of taking away the "skill" from the game I think it actually adds to it; this especially so when you think of all the combinations you can make with the varity of the characters and your ability to follow-up attacks with not only more attacks, items too!

I play with and without. My friends like to play without them more, but I convince them to play just for fun matches sometimes. The items are in the game so you can use them when you want to, but the option to take them off is there so you can take them off when you don't want to use them. Everybody wins, especially me, because I am awesome. Modest too.

If I'm playing with friends just for fun, I have items on. But when we set up a tournament, we turn them all off. There are times items are useful and fun too use, but then there are times where I can't stand them and want them off.

Here's my opinion: Some character's have built in items, and some don't.
If you wanna get rid of items, you need to do away with the swords, guns, hammers, and projectiles that any characters have.
Items are less cheap - limited use.

For serious matches, to try to improve and/or test your skill - No items For fun with friends - items

It really depends on who you play with. People at NOA will strangle you if you try to turn items on.
If I'm playing with friends, I'll turn items on, since none of my friends (save for those from work) can really compete with me. That way, I get practice avoiding and catching items.

I have to say I like to use items but I don't go out of my way to get them, but if it's a Hammer, Star or Pokeball I run for it but if not I let someone else have it unless I'm right by it.
Yes, I understand I said "Pokeball".
