Now we get to the complex part-- the inhabitants of the Land Beyond and others you may RP.
We'll go through this slowly, since it may be a bit complex (especially for me to explain properly; I get befuddled easily).
There are four basic beings: Mundanes (those who inhabit Earth and only Earth), Latents (those of the Land Beyond), Others* (these inhabit a place unknown, yet communicate with those of both worlds through various media), and Wanderers (those of Earth or the Land Beyond who can travel between the two).
Mundanes are 'normal' humans, for all extents and purposes. Latents are usually normal looking, but sometimes have something strange about them-- like a snake eye or such. Typically, Latents only become 'strange' when the Wind blows that different way and revert to normal afterwards. Others are almost always strange and rarely corporeal in either of the worlds. They are things like faces in the fire, the dancers that possess the icicles.
(Others are, for the moment, NON-GROWING and extremely rare.)
Each character chooses an alignment (which is not shown in the first stage). The 'good-guys' are the Traveller's friends, those who help the enigmatic hero. Second are the Dissenter's minions, the 'bad-guys' who follow the nefarious (if charismatic) Dissenter. There are the Neutrals, who don't seem to care about the war between the two factions, and lastly the Balancers. These see neither as right, but both as essential to maintaining the universe. The Balancers are led by an Other whose name is unknown. Neutrals are those trying to live as best as they can away from the war and are haphazardly led, if it all.
Note that Travellers are almost purely pacifistic. They will fight in self-defense and against the Dissenters, but that is all. Balancers believe that for every act of good, there must be one of evil. Dissenters believe that war is necessity and it is in man's best interest to fight against nature. Neutrals... well, they wanna be left alone.
There are thirteen positions among the varying factions. As your character travels through the war between the worlds, he or she will find a job well-suited to his or her skills. These are: Wayfarers, Prophets, Scholars, Recruiters, Naturals, Leaders, Fighters, Spies, Religious Men, Providers, Magicians, Artists and Artisans.
Magicians and Prophets are most common among Others and Latents. Oddly, Leaders, Artists, and Artisans are more common among Mundanes. Naturals are found almost solely in Others. All are found in Wanderers.
In a few rare cases, a character may have more than one position.
