The orgins of Q's name have many theories that I've heard. One of the more interesting that I've heard relates the idea of Q's omnipotence to that of God's. There is school of study that relates curtian Biblical texts that echo in different gospels. Scholars believe that simlar quotes throughout the gospels may have come from a singular text, which they refer to as Q. Scholars therefor put such passages in the form "....."Q. Showing Q as being in many ways the voice of God. So is it possible that naming our favourite anti-hero Q, is a call back to God in his relation to Q's all knowing, all powerful nature.
What is your opinion on the roots of Q's name?

That's a very interesting subject, and a great theory. I've never really thought about it, but it raises a question of my own with a capital Q: What about O from Greg Cox's "The Q Continuum?" or the M from "I,Q?"

I wouldn't put it past the writers to have named them all on different scriptual or historical things...you know how creative people can be....

Well, I have been very curious as to why they used Q, O and M but not L, N, P, R...so on and so forth. Do you know if there's a scripture that has the O symbol that perhaps mentions devistation, destruction, evil or something like that? I don't know if you read "The Q Continuum" What are the other theories you've heard, or do you remember?

Near the end of the book The Buried Age, Q explains why he chose the name (letter) 'Q'. It was a rather corny explanation in my opinion, but it fit him. His words (I'm paraphrasing a bit) were: 'Because U will always be behind me.'

In some ways I can agree with that, I think he did that so he can be recognized since he is supossedly a self appointed guardian of humanity,(Ok, sometimes he does something that can bring chaos, but it is because he is also testing somewhat. sweatdrop sweatdrop sweatdrop ) Also because of that, the continnium don't reallly have any need for names.

I agree with that.. ..but can you think of any real word that doesn't have the letter 'u' after the letter 'q'? I couldn't.

I always theorised that it was Q because:
A circle in many ancient (and I'm sure some modern) cultures is considered perfection - thus symbolised by the letter O .
Q is like perfection with a bit more.
