Zen sat between two large pines, the trees were growing less and less together in this area and the land had more hills. So he sat at the top of one of these said hills, staring ahead. One could assume he was staring at a certain destination, he had a determined if slightly annoyed look held in his gaze. His tail flicked as he muttered little nothings under his breath, his cold eyes narrowed slightly.

His ears twitched and his eyes widened, head jerking to the left and then the right as a foreign smell entered his nostrils. "Will you hurry up?" He hissed, suddenly standing and turning to look back at his companion, sitting about fifty paces down the path. "I can smell someone." He said, his voice soft and hard at the same time, carrying carefully toward the other male.

They seemed to be the same age, both fit and pretty healthy looking but the one speaking seemed to command more... respect. He seemed older, more mature. But that was how life went, wasn't it? "If you don't hurry I swear I will tear you limb from limb... stopping every five minutes like you do!" He hissed out. "We have some where to be Flea. By tomorrow. We'll hardly make it!" While he sounded rather annoyed there was also a worried note in his voice, something he could not completely mask.

Why it was there? That seemed to be a mystery. "Come. Now." He saw that the other was still not going to come and he hurried down the path, snapping at the other's face and shoving him hard with a shoulder. "C'mon get out of sight, they come." He breathed. Who it was that was on their way here he could not say, but they should stay out of sight.

Flea had been enjoying itching at his neck and ears. It wasn't his fault he was called Flea for a reason... his real name had been long forgotten and this was the only one he and his companion knew. Why? Simply because he had fleas. A lot of fleas and they never seemed to leave him be... he wasn't... that dirty looking though his coat was dusty and he didn't care so much for bathing himself. It wasn't that he was a dirt bag... he'd rather nap than clean.

"C'mon Zen, cool it will ya? We'll make it an' e'ery thin'" but he didn't get to finish as his companion started at him and with a little yelp he tried to scramble backwards. That and the force of the other's shoulder against his body caused him to fall right on his back.

He snarled and whined as he twisted, grumbling under his breath. As if they had to hide from every little thing they came upon... it was ridiculous! He sneered and sullenly followed his long time friend. He knew the other was just worried about his sister... A sadness set into his features at the thought and his gaze flicked to where they'd been heading. Was someone really coming?

He slipped behind the small clumps of trees, sitting silently next the the other male. It wasn't a very good hiding spot in his opinion...

Walking slowly into sight the female with glazed over eyes stopped and sniffed the air, sighing deeply. Her frame was lean but she looked well, not sickly.

With twitching ears she spoke out to herself, slowly dragging her paws along as she walked into the wooded area aimlessly.

“Look alive Finch, your heels are dragging, I never knew anyone could move so slow.”

Because the two that sat hidden did not know her or anything about her they had every right to assume her mad by the way she talked to herself, looking around tiredly.

“I’ll just lay on the ground and look up at the trees.”

Again she spoke out, without a care in the world. The forest was home and the trees her only friends, she knew they would never betray her, that is why she knew that two others lay hidden from her, that’s why she didn’t move. If they did not show themselves now they would be stuck there all night.

Finch hardly slept.

His ears twitched he he raised his brows as he looked at Zen, but he sat staring straight ahead, in his own little world. It was quite obvious he'd sit there all night until the 'intruder' he left, if he had to. Flea sighed lightly and leaned close. "Sounds like two. Talkin' t'someone and all, don't you hear?" He breathed softly, for Zen's ears alone. After a minute of the other still just staring he grumbled something and shifted, leaning to look out. His eyes landed on a more naturally colored wolf, a handsome rust-red with creams and soft orange-creams. She was pretty, her colors. He watched her lay there a moment and sighed again.

She didn't look dangerous. Flea easily wished for social contact, for others to speak to and perhaps play with. Zen hardly took notice of this need in the younger-minded male nor did it ever strike him to speak to those they hid from. Though Flea argued with himself that most of the time that was the safest bet, most wolves they passed did seem hostile.

But she didn't, honest! Flea finally nudged his friend and before Zen could restrain him he was slipping out from behind the tree, heading for the other. "Lo there!" He called, quite cheerfully for some wolf that had just been hiding out of sight.

As Zen was jarred from his own little world his gaze snapped toward his friend, immediately knowing what the other was about to do. "Wai--" He was too late. He watched the other slip from behind the trees and shut his eyes, sighing long and hard. He groaned lightly and shook his head.

"We'll get to you in time... I promise.." He whispered to himself, before standing and following more slowly, more reserved than his companion. His gaze landed on the female and he scoffed. This was why Flea was so eager to go talk... it must have been. He was oblivious to the fact that his best friend was such a social character.

“Strangers!”

Finch’s tail wagged from side to side as the two that had been hiding from her showed themselves. She looked rather excited and she could see now that the hidden ones were not so bad. No, they had not yelled at her at least! Her yellow eyes narrowed as she slowly wiggled up onto her paws and eyed them both over slowly, questioning.

“Brothers?”

To her they kind of looked alike, colors and all. She liked it! Stranger-brothers! She was happy about this, she missed her brother and sister a lot, she wished they would stick with her like the two before her seemed to.

Oh, sad thoughts, she couldn’t be sad. Twisting her head some she looked at her paws and frowned before she looked back up at them. She seemed so humble and carefree talking to them the way she did.

She didn’t fear them at all.

“Why did you hide away from me? Am I no good?”

He'd put a stop to this nonsense before Flea could get into it! "We hid from you because we have somewhere to be and no time to talk." He said, his voice held a hard edge to it and as he came up beside his male companion, who did look a good deal like him, he shot him a deadly glare that clearly stated he'd have no arguments about it.

Flea frowned and suddenly dodged out a paw, knocking Zen hard in the head. "C'mon, be nice." He spat back, but his tone was amused and his tail was wagging back and forth. He meant his friend no harm, but he wanted a conversation with someone besides his depressed, goal-driven buddy. Plus he was worried, worried sick about Zen's sister. Worried perhaps more than the other male, if that was possible. His mind just had a funny way of working through things like that.

He knew it'd be good to carry on ahead but.... this felt right too. So he grinned and stepped in front of Zen, laughing. "Brothers? Nah. Jus' look very similar. Ge' that a lo' though." He seemed quite happy about that too, if he could have anyone for a brother it weould be Zen.

"Of course you're good! Seem to be fine company, bu' we do need to get to someone. I'm Flea and that behind me is Zen.." He leaned forward as if he had some big secret to share with the female. "He's no fun though, bi' of a sour puss." He grinned and moved forward, closer to her.

Zen was used to Flea ignoring his orders sometimes... but of all times he could chose! He was about to continue but the moron just kept on speaking and then... his jaw opened slightly and a disgusted look came over his face. He'd clearly heard what the other had just said about him.

Sour puss? His ears flicked back and he huffed, sitting and facing away from the two. Clearly he'd ignore the whole thing. His heart was racing and he just stared ahead, forward and toward the mountains ahead. They needed... to get there in time. What the ******** was Flea playing at?

Finch was very amused by how the two interacted and found them to be quite enjoyable. Why couldn’t more wolves that passed through her woods be like this, she never wanted them to go. Listening to them speak she frowned, smiled and laughed all at the same time.

Boy, they were very strange but she liked that very much. Her eyes narrowed as she smiled at the male that moved in closer to her, Flea. He seemed to have wits about him, unlike his darling friend.

“Finch.”

She stated softly, her name; what she was called. True it was a simple name, but she was a simple being with little request for anything of the normal. She was very selfless and simple. Simple. Yes. Simple.

Simple and soft spoken.

“Why would you ever want to leave the forest? My sister and brother left the forest many years ago. Then he died alone and the last time I saw her it looked like the reaper had rapped on her door.”

Now, what she said wasn’t 100% true, but the last time she had seen her brother he did look dead. Very dead- And the same with her sister, she seemed so lifeless, back at the camps…

Finch stopped herself before she got to far lost in thought and regret.

“Where do my two look-a-likes have to be so quickly?”

As this Finch character began to speak of her sister and brother and how death had seemed to be coming for her sister Zen gave a shudder. He rose and moved forward, back for the hill. "I'm waiting up there. Don't be long Flea, I mean it." He said, his voice commanding again, though something read on his face that he seemed to be a little natious. The mention of family had increased his worry for his own sister...

She was going to die. There was nothing he or Flea could do about it... though they had tried. He shut his eyes tight for a moment again. They were worthless... they could not help... how could he'd let this happen to his sweet sister?

He winced and glanced toward Zen, looking worried for a moment and slightly hesitant. But the smile was back on his face as he looked to Finch. "Finch and Flea, both with an 'f'." He grinned, as if this was some amazing coincidence or something.

"Ah it's true that the forest is beautiful and calming bu' we 'ail from the mountains. Mountain wolves an' all that, you know?" A softness entered his gaze as he listened about her family and shook his head, one sibling dead and the other practically so. "Well I do hope she out-witted tha' reaper, heard he wasn't such a nice fellow." He muttered softly, glancing again toward Zen, who was sitting on top of the hill.

"Anyways we need ta get back to our homelands cause his sister is sick... gunna... die soon..." His voice trailed off and his sighed lightly, shaking his head. "Shouldn' be like this, shoul' it? Meet a stranger and ya make conversation about death." He shifted and sat slowly.

"Doesn' seem ta be anything ta do about 'er though, we searched for a long time if there was a cure for this sickness... bu' seems most packs ne'er heard of it." He said, sadly. He tried not to let it affect him so much on his outside appearance though. Death... was a part of life... but Zen's sister? Why?

“Silly strange wolves with silly strange worries. You can not find a cure because you live in the rockrocks, that is why you can not find one, you know? Forest is full of herbs that can heal and purify, if you know what is good and bad.”

She spoke in a matter of fact kind of tone. Poor boys looked so very upset.

“Strange one with a frown doesn’t seem well. I can help you, only if he promise to smile for me?”

Finch’s ears pinned back as she gazed at the male that had wandered off from them. She hated seeing pain in others, it just killed her.

“I can find you the right herbs, I can, they will tell me where to find them, it wouldn’t take too long, the trees never lie to me. Never.”

His eyes lit up suddenly. She knew what would help? But none of the forest packs they'd run into had any clue! Forget about the fact she mentioned trees never lying... he didn't dwell on that in the least. "Y-you can help her?" He sounded shocked and relieved at the same time, he'd bounded to his feet in a matter of seconds.

He suddenly laughed at the type of deal she was making with him. "Zen? Zen will smile for you!" He said, his voice growing in volume as his heart grew excited. "Hell he will be your slave for something like this! You can really help her? She is so... so sick.." His voice suddenly died down again and he looked hesitant, his body shaking. He shouldn't get his hopes up...

"She is always in pain.. s-sometimes she has fits of aggression and doesn't know what she's doing.." They'd had to leave the pack because of all the trouble she'd caused, attacking other wolves and such. "It's best when she's sleeping.. but also the scariest bit because... her breathing slows so much it... it's hard to tell.." He shook his head and coughed. From his disbelief and hope and excitement he'd slipped out of his accent, sounding almost exactly like Zen with his words.

"Ne'er mind, yeh think yeh can help?" He said, grinning at her. His eyes were shinning, his tail flying back and forth.

Zen's ears flicked and he glanced back. He'd heard his name and... slave? What the hell was Flea doing? Jokes like that were not funny. He slipped back toward the pair.

"Flea please it is getting late... she will never forgive me." He didn't finish the complete thought for this stranger's ears. She wouldn't forgive him if he didn't make it in time to wish he one last goodbye and safe travels in the world of the dead... why would he say that in front of a stranger? Flea would get his drift anyhow.

He blinked and slowed, stopping as he caught some of the things his friend was saying. His gaze shot to the female. Was she messing with the boy's head? Was Flea an idiot? Out of all the wolves none had even known the sickness, why would some strange... his heart was breaking.

He simply couldn't believe something so good, he hadn't even heard what the female had said. Just that Flea was so excited and speaking of his sister's illness... His breathing was a bit panicked and he shuffled, coughing slightly. "Flea what are you doing?" He hissed. "We'd agreed to say nothing more to anyone..." He sounded stricken, doubtful and... and scared. Did she really know something of this?

“Pain, pain, anger, madness, pain. Mmm.”

Finch was moving herself in circles around him now as she slowly started to think of things that could be used to help the said female. Tilting her head up she frowned and thought some more, before stopping in place.

“The old Bedford tree, I think it knows. Hold please.”

At her last request the odd female slowly tiptoed away from both males and dug herself deep into a wooded area, disappearing from them complexly as her body turned into nothing but a shadow.

They waited for a good 10 minutes before she slowly pushed her way back out with a grin across her muzzle.

“We need to find a plant that grows beside the river and is blue toned and shaded, like a flower but also like a plant, greens, blues. Beside the rive they said, mix it with grass to settle the stomach and make her eat it. All of it, a couple of them at the most. Three or four of the flowers.”

She paused and thought.

“Also, you need to hurry because when it gets dark the flowers close up for the night, you need to get them when they are still opened to the sunlight, you know. She needs them mixed together and opened.”

Finch often repeated things she felt was important. She felt good being able to help and didn’t even notice the lack of faith around her.

The trees never lied!

“The river isn’t too far from here, once you get the flower go back to the female and make her eat it right away.”

He stared at her with wide eyes. "I could kiss you if this were to be true!" He exclaimed before heading toward the river, feverishly searching for a plant that matched her description. Could this really help Kiio? Could it? Impossible... of god he'd try anything at this point!

Flea started and glanced to Zen, brows shooting up. Ah, ah he was happy! Flea knew this because he'd never said something stupider or more childish than what he just had! He laughed and grinned at Finch, "Thank you!" He said, full heartedly. "Will you help us look?" He asked, she'd probably know it better than them, wouldn't she? But with out waiting for her full answer he slipped after Zen, tail swishing back and forth. Though doubtful the more their chances rested on this herb for his life-long friend to get better... the more that hope filled his heart.

His eyes strained against the slightly dimming light. Sunset was still a little ways off, but they would need to work fast or risk wasting another night.

“I can’t be gone too long, but I will try to help you. Come on, let’s go.”

With a soft sigh the masked female walked passed Flea and started after Zen quickly.

She moved past him, trying to direct him in the right direction before he got himself lost. Turning a little way she beckoned them to follow her down a small hill until the hit a patch of orange and yellow flowers. She stepped through them lightly and made her way forward, never looking back.

“Very close now..”

She chimed and looked around, moving forward. The river’s soft scent was full now and soon she found her at it’s edge, smiling. Around here somewhere was the plant that they needed.

“Search time. We should split up. Zen, you go down the river and I will take Flea up the river, savvy?”

He frowned slightly and hesitated, why should Flea go with her? He shook his head quickly, berating himself. Now was not the time to be thinking like that! He nodded and gave her a small, reserved smile that confirmed that he understood and would do what she said. With out a word he slipped down river, walking at a careful pace that would let him keep watch for what they needed to find.

Flea had come up behind the pair just in time to hear who would be going with who. He noticed Zen's hesitation immediately and chuckled to himself. Even while he was worried sick over his sister... He smiled lightly to himself.

Though sometimes he was thought to be a bit dim-witted because of his actions and his general friendly outlook towards other this was hardly the case... he knew Zen best after all. He was worried the female did not look kindly toward him, that she preferred his own company over Zens... which couldn't be blamed when Zen acted as he did but Flea hardly thought that was the case. He was sure it was a bit... more simple than that.

He watched Zen a moment before moving beside Finch, eyes scanning for the plant as he did so. "Is it a small plant?" He asked slowly, trying to get the mood less... less... searching? He laughed at his own thoughts and shook his head. He felt tense, he knew Zen was tense as well. If this truly worked Flea thought Zen might actually follow the claim of kissing this helpful stranger.

His tail flicked and he just grinned, moving slightly ahead. "I might no' be so good at helping look fer this plant.." He said, almost sheepishly. Most plants and flowers looked the same to him, that was why.

“I do not know.”

Finch spoke out as she jumped into the river lightly and dug around for a moment. She was very unaware of his motive and only asked him to come with her because the unhappy seemed to like working alone. Her head tilted slightly as she looked around and snorted.

“When I was smaller I took my sister here, into this same river. She enjoyed back when she was a tiny thing.”

Ahh, it was good to remember sometimes.

“Zen, his sister is going to be alright, you know? You know how I know?”

She stopped and looked at Flea.

“Because we are all trying to help her get better, that’s why. I know things, I’m sure we will find this plant soon for her, and then you two can go to her and make it all better. Everything will be at peace, perfect again.”

Finch, poor thing, was always wanting everything to be ‘perfect.” Though, things in her life never seemed to be. Her eyes narrowed as she stopped and looked over at a patch of set-stones. In-between the stones lay a blue flower, growing weakly and alone.

They had found them.

Zen moved along sluggishly, only searching the edge of the river. He'd moved into it, letting the icy water flow over his paws. He did not mind the cool feeling it created through his body, though he could feel himself trembling. It was more from the hope and what this plant depended on rather than the cold, he figured.

He puffed up his chest and nodded slowly. "Yeh... I do hope things come out alright.." He said quietly but happily. Kiio would be happy knowing they'd tried with all their heart, even if things did not go as planned.

She didn't know though? How could that be.. she'd described it very well... He let his thoughts stop as she began to dig and as she stopped. He moved over to look down at it and then froze. "This it?" He questioned, looking up into her eyes.

He swallowed hard and looked down river. "How much do we need?" He asked slowly, looking skeptically at the small flower. Should he pick it?
