Please let me know if anyone's heard Meyer's position on this, but here's my theory for the titles of the original trilogy.
The titles are symbolic. Edward is symbolized with the moon (alright, I admit it, my english classes are getting to me, but bear with me). He, like the moon, is cold, hard, distant, and shines in the sunlight (lol). Twilight symbolizes the coming of Edward into Bella's life.
New Moon is a time with no moon, aka, no Edward.
Eclipse is where Edward, the moon, overshadows Jacob, Bella's "Sun".
The only thing I'm not sure about is Breaking Dawn. If my theory is correct and holds true for that book...NOOOOO!!!!!!! And my theory doesn't quite cover Midnight Sun...I suppose perhaps Bella is Edward's sun in his darkest night?
Anyone else have any suggestions? Ones that may make more sense (or at least more happiness, lol, I'm an Edward fan through and through) for Breaking Dawn? Feel free to discuss and add!

The user Aqua Anjel suggested that maybe Breaking Dawn means breaking Jacob, as it should include Edward and Bella's wedding. I like that idea better than my suggestion for Breaking Dawn.

hmm, very interesting. It is very symbolic.
What do you think of the fact that the author uses the titles in her books in a few places? Do you think those lines have anything to add to it?

I was just about to post something about that.
In Twilight: The word Twilight appears 4 times, if I remember correctly (post pages if you know them! I haven't read the books for a while).
New Moon: The words New Moon and Eclipse both appear right after the breakup. I believe Twilight and New Moon are both mentioned again somewhere? I'm going to look these up soon, but if you know, go ahead and post.
Eclipse: I think the word Twilight and Eclipse both appear once.
So...what do you all think of this?

And so... The title of Breaking Dawn could be symbolic to Renesmee being born. Dawn is a time when both the sun and moon can be present, and in this case, both Edward and jacob are there with Bella. Of course, i haven't taken any english classes sinnce high school, and i'm not particularly good at this symbolism thing. ...the lion fell in love with the lamb

I know that the cover art of Breaking Dawn symbolizes Bella turning from a pawn into a queen.
