All them donation items are like that.
The best advise I can give on getting the items you want is to watch the market, by newer items that you think will gain value quicker than your item. Takes a little while to develop an eye for it, but it's worth it if you can get what you want that way.

yeah, i've been keeping an eye on the prices...it seems like they drop around when the new monthly collectibles come out, but i'm still short a good 20,000 gold lol
