I am actually really surprised there's not already a thread dedicated to this. I mean, that pendant was darned important to our little bat demon. Now the pendant brings a lot of controversy to our dear little demon here. Many people use it to diminish his character... Saying he was a fool to go back for a simple piece of jewelry. However, what if that pendant weren't just a simple piece of jewelry. In defense of Kuronue's intelligence and his honor I say we discuss some theories of what that pendant really could have been, and what it could have meant to Kuronue. In my opinion I think that pendant must have either been the source of Kuronue's powers... or in an extreme case, a connection to his life force. In the movie he cleary states in desperation that he needs it. Well if it were just a little token from another burglary or something, why would he need it so badly? We could always say that it was a family heirloom and that Kuronue was on the sentimental side... However I really don't like to think of that as an option. Mainly because I don't see Kuronue as the sentimental type necessarily. So people, I leave it to you know... discuss what you think that pendant could have been, and what you think it meant to Kuronue.

I definitely think it was connected to his power or his life energy. If it was important enough to risk his life over it, I would think it would have more than just sentimental value.
In my fanfic (which isn't anywhere online), it was an item forged by the gods, passed down in the family. It gave him tremendous power, but only after learning how to use it.
Naturally, there were a lot of family members who sought this pendant for themselves...but that's a long story.

In my mind, the pendant belonged to his mother, and he holds it very close to his heart. Like you said, sentimental value. ^_^ I don't think it was simply a bauble with no real use, I do also believe it may have also had some kind of power.

I am glad to see that other people here support Kuronue's intelligence. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised since this is a Kuronue guild, but you never know. Of course Thief Kuronue is right, we will never know exactly why he did go back for it... but it is fun to come up with ideas. I still can't see it as sentimental myself, to me it's just not in his personality. I mean even if it was passed down from his family it would have had to have a power he needed for him to be desperate enough to risk his life for it. At least that's the way I see it... and probably always will.

Thief Kuronue Uh...
The world may never know why I went back for it? =D;; My gods hes actually alive! Le-gasp Well I agree with everyone personally. But did anyone notice in the movie he was twirling his pendant and then his weapons magically appeared? Maybe thats where our Lil bat boy keeps them? Or its a weapon forged by the gods who passed oit down through the family and was his mothers. wink I did have it up but it didn't get too many posts so i deleted it sweatdrop

Oh that brings me to the theory of the scythes... I really don't think they belonged to Kuronue... They belonged to the demon god, I mean sure Kurama didn't look surprised to see them, but that's because they were used as part of the illusion. The memories of Kuronue were skewed, so Kurama might have thought he had them. Because one must also remember that they did not disappear with the illusion of Kuronue...
Of course it would be cool if the pendant really did hide a weapon like KomoriRei suggested. I could in fact still see Kuronue going back for the pendant because of that... because the pendant would hold everything he needed for defence.

If you poked him with muffins, wouldn't he just eat them? xd
Or show him freshly-baked ones and not let him have any until he tells us what we want to know?
