STORY The kingdom of Hawk Haven is on the verge of collapsing by foreign domination or internal civil war. King Tedric is bereft of all royal heirs, his three children having had died, two in the war, one on his trip for the colonizing a dense wilderness. Many thought that he would have named his new heir after his daughter, his last child, died on a raid against pirates. But, no name came, making all who had any sort of link to the king by blood begin to vie for the chance of becoming the new monarch of the country. The five Great Houses are hoping that those within the royal blood who had relations to them would be placed on the throne, making them gain more power, if only a little. Countries outside are also taking an interest, some hoping to place a strong leader back on the throne, some hoping for a weak one, others hoping for one that will give them more control and influence of Hawk Haven's resources. Few long for war, the Sundering (the one-hundred years of wars) still fresh in their mind, and all hoping for nothing of the sort to even be dreamed of. None dream of killing the king, even those with ambitions that will stop at nothing. His death would cause internal war, all the Houses bringing out their armies to place the one they believe to be the true new monarch on the throne. Rumors run through the air, none knowing who they can trust in this race to find the new heir. Some may seem friends, only long enough to get their own ends fullfilled, then stabbing the others in the backs. Others may be entirely sincere, saying what they mean and meaning what they say. Trust is an item that few can afford in this new, quiet battle to make someone the new monarch. Few will quit short on this matter of succession...

SETTING Since the king is ailing, and he is to name his successor, few leave the castle and the city nearby. The castle is known as the Eagles' Nest, and so is the city around it. It will all take place there, well, almost all of it. ((This RP is happening at the same time as Merchant of Menace))

RULES Yes, more rules. These are important ones, though. All for the uniqueness of the RP. What I hope is to be the uniqueness, at least. 1) Follow the Guild Rules. 2) Let's try to eliminate all short posts, shall we? 3) This is not an action oriented RP, more of one of intrigue. Please refrain from physical fighting. But, a little will be allowed, as long as it adds to the plot. 4) Do NOT use information given in other people's posts if your character is not there to get it. This RP will sink if you start to do that. 5) You can have three [3] characters active at one time. 6) You can have one of your characters be a potential heir, but please PM me first so I can help figure out a connection between your character and the crown by blood. 7) As usual, HAVE FUN!!! This should be, hopefully, a different type of RP that all should enjoy.

A NOTE ON THE GREAT HOUSES Over two hundred years ago, the country of Hawk Haven was split apart in a giant civil war, as well as a revolutionary one. A group of nobles helped put in place a new monarch over the country, and helped push the other armies out into the current country of Bright Bay. As a reward for their help, these nobles and their families recieved certain priveledges and large lots of land to their keeping. They also recieved the title of being a House, a family centered nobility group that extended membership to those who were not of their blood. Later, these same five Houses became the Five Great Houses, also recieving with that an animal type that now became a symbol for their family. The Great Houses are as follows, with Animal than family name(I don't have all the family names, only two): Kestrel(Norwood); Gyrofalcon(Shield); Peregrine; Merlin; and Kite. They have influence within the goverment, often controlling certain aspects of the goverment, economy, and have family relationships with the crown. They also help supply a part of the army that the king must sometimes muster, each of the Houses keeping a small standing army, each House with their own speciality. (Kestrel with calvary, Peregrine with scouts, ecetra) The Great Houses are often where royal heirs usually draw their spouses from. They also have more influence than those who have also been granted the title of House. House Archer has less influence than House Kite, for example. (Simply put, any House that isn't named after a bird of prey is a lesser House.)

Victor walked through the hidden doors in the back of the throne room, then serving as the banquent hall. It was early afternoon, and some were sitting in the hall eating their lunch, mostly just the servants and a few nobles not afraid to be seen chatting openly with the servants. The king was nowhere to be seen, but most could find him in or around his quarters, but no one could be sure. He may be an old man, but he could move around the castle like a youngster at times. Victor sat down in a vacant chair and grabbed a roll, tore it in half with his fingers, and buttered it with a knife that was lying down by the plate. The whole are was place set for Victor, who always came in and sat at the same table each day for lunch. He wondered how long it wold remain so serene in the castle, now that almost every noble who had a chance of being heir, and all those who were related to them, were flocking over. The roll went into his mouth delicatly and he bit down, chewing on the piece of food that was now in his mouth, questions rolling through his mind.

Listaden walks over to Victor, wondering if anyone could have lunch here. He decides to sit down, and pulls out some of his own food, watching Victor just enough to be sure he wasn't trying anything.

Victor looked up at the man who decided to sit down. He was sure he had seen him about the palace before, but since so many people were coming in, no one could be entirely sure. Another piece of roll was popped into his mouth, Victor chewing it while he ran over mentally what he would say to the new man to get acquainted. It was better to make sure that he knew too many people instead of knowing too few. Besides, Victor was just a neutral player in the game. No one had to fear him. "So, are you here as an escort?" He spoke simply, keeping his face looking straight forward. Chances were that the man was an escort, a body guard for any of the nobles in the palace. He looked the type, but Victor couldn't be sure.

Jericho walked into the vast room looking at all of the elegant forms and shapes on the walls. He had been here before, but only when he was a child. He looked out of the windows at the vast gardens and courtyard, he remembered playing in them as a small child. he of course was not royalty and had only been here when he was a kid because he was friends with the young prince when they were children. Jericho spun around once again getting lost as he obseved the many carvings and paintings that filled the room.

((Psst. Chaos, Jericho's character profile isn't up. Just a friendly heads up.))
Victor raised his eyebrows at the man's comment. Victor wasn't exactly stickler for policy himself, but he knew that few came into the castle, let alone the palace, without having some sort of royal connection. Either one by blood or by trade. "And who, exactly, were you an escort for, then?" Another piece of the roll popped into his mouth, Victor chewing it slowly, waiting for the man's reaction.
Danela descended the stairs of the East Tower and walked towards the throne room, the promise of a good, hot meal too much to pass up. Odd gadgets hung from her belt, and a swatch of dried lembas grass was swinging from her hip. She passed by the ornate and beautifully carved statues, not giving them a second glance. She was too used to the splendor of grand palaces, and this one was not the greatest of the ones she had seen. Her dimunitive frame held her commanding posture, her office as the head chemist within the castle evident in the way she walked. Her boots crossed the threshold into the throne room, and stopped to notice a man she was sure she had seen before, when one of the princes were younger. She couldn't remember if it was Prince Barden, Prince Ulric, or if it was the future husband of the princess, the current Prince Newell...
