Well, personally, I think Michael Gambon's terrible at portraying Dumbledore. I think Dumbledore is the quiet, intelligent type, but did you notice how much yelling he did in the fourth movie? Dumbledore would never yell at a student. He's too important for that. He's not meant to seem like he is an emotional person, he's just the quiet strength. I remember, in some parts, he actually acts cocky! Which makes his character look ignorant.

But I would love to hear other's opinions.

He is a terrible dumbledore, but sadly the person perfect for the job died after the second film.

I don't much care for him either, but if you'll go back and reread, I think he actually did do quite a bit of yelling in the 4th. At least during the parts with the champion selection ceremony, afterward when he confronts Harry in the chamber, and then again at the end when he confronts the fake Moody. Now, I think the true test will come in the last two movies, to see weather he can pull off some of those extremely emotional scenes properly.

Now, I can't think of any scenes where he acted particularly cocky. But if you want to be perfectly honest, Richard Harris had a few cocky moments of his own. At the end of Philosopher's Stone when he's talking to Harry in the hospital, and in the second movie whenever he was involved with Lockheart (of course, even Snape and McGonagal were giving him looks).

I've always imagined and there is an aire of portrayal that dumbledore need not shout, for his voice is powerful enough even when soft.

Everyone reads and imagines differently, of course, but the current dumbledore feels too short, too grey and too rapid with a sharp voice that dumbledore was not said to have at the worst of times.

He may not be the best Dumbledore. But I think that he is getting a bit better with each movie.

I think he's a much better Dumbledore. The other one 'looked' more like him, but he was so old and essentially breathed his lines. He had no youthful vigor or any of the zaniness that the Dumbledore in the books has.

Either way, there is a "If you could replace the actors" thread, as well as the "Movie Discussion" thread for these kinds of comments and thoughts. They don't need their own thread.
