Just bought the PS2 remakes on eBay, and I'm working on getting a Swap Magic to play them. Now I just need to get a DVD drive for my computer so I can use that Rosetta Stone thing to learn the language.
Has anyone played them yet? If so, any tips on playing them without knowing certain words or perhaps where to find a site or something that could help to translate?

I thought I might have had a link that may have been useful, but apparently it was on my sister's PC, and those dumb bastards at CompUSA STILL haven't fixed it. stare It's been over a month already! evil

Seriously, who the ******** really learns anything by being a ******** parrot? I think it'd be easier to learn another language by getting their sentence structure first, then being taught the words and how they get set into things. I can understand using parroting for the initial language as infants have nothing to go on, but even then they don't seem to fully grasp the language until the rules are laid out. Once someone understands the words and rules of their language the rules to new ones should be the top priority.
Yay for faulty education system rants!
Back to RS; I'd check it out further if I could, but unfortunately my Dad's computer is the only one with whatever it is that reads that kind of disc, and he's more attached to that thing than I am to mine. @_@
Fortunately someone in another guild provided me with a link to a site that, while only slightly helpful, has a few links to books that look like they may be helpful and I intend to check them out. It's going to be weird though, it's been ages since I honestly read a book, let alone studied one.
Really though, this would all be so much simpler if the only place in the state that teaches the language weren't nearly, or perhaps more than, 200 miles away.... North Dakota really sucks.
About your sister's computer; Have either of you tried harrassing them about it?
Edit: The site with the books apparently doesn't accept PayPal. Why does the world feel the need to keep me on square one? -_-

She's called them about 6 times, and they keep handing her bullshit stories. This last call (this past Monday) they couldn't even find her service plan account in their database for a long time. When they did, they said they can't find any record of what progress was taken with it, so they can't tell her anything, so she should just wait and hope that it shows up sometime soon. /headdesk
That is THE biggest bullshit story I have EVER heard in my life! I have no idea what in the world could possibly top it. rolleyes
She intends on calling them back again on Monday since it still hasn't arrived. xp

Back on topic. whee I imagine parrot could be useful with really simple sentances, but anything beyond that, ugh-ugh. My sister had some learn Katakana, etc. programs in the past, but they only showed symbols for simple things and how to pronounce it. There was nothing about understanding complex phrases, let alone sentance structure. Even things like Altavista's Babelfish, where you can copy/paste foreign sentances in and get them translated just give the basic jist of what sentances are (assuming all the words in the sentance are in it's databank) trying to say are limited because it can't analyze it as well as a person would be able to.

Well, I have the games and the PS2 case to play them, now I'm just waiting on the swap magic disc to go with the fliptop case.
I suppose waiting on the disc at least gives me time to study more, though the oversight on my part regarding the books I bought when I went to Bismarck a week or so ago is going to cost me. I just looked over the first few pages to see what all it'd cover and I saw mention of Kanji, Hirigana, & Katakana, so I figured all three would be covered to some extent, especially since the latter two had a, I'm hoping, complete list a few pages after. But, there's nothing beyond that brief mentioning of Kanji in the book, not even so much as a list of common ones or something, so I'm limited in what I may be able to read until I can get a book to cover them... sweatdrop

Swap Magic came in the mail today.
Phantasy Star 2 is being an uncooperative b***h, and thus I've yet to play it.
Phantasy Star on the other hand worked on the first try and I have only this to say; It's just absolutely beautiful. Not just graphically, but really everything about it just feels right.
After it all sunk in I cried, because this just goes to show that if Sega would just give the originals a little bit of love and focus less on the b*****d spawn series they could do something truely amazing.

Phantasy Star 2's desided to work. Did the day after I made the post actually.
The new additions to combat are quite fun at best, negligible at worst. The 3 attack levels is quite nice, it's like a Chrono Cross/Phantasy Star hybrid, and the charged skills are quite nice, though it'd be nicer if the gauge didn't empty after a fight with how slow Rolf's gauge for Royal Guard charges (6 turns of guarding for 3 turns of complete invulnerability for everyone, even the dead should you revive them before it fades). The damage reduction ring is kinda pointless since it only drops how much monsters do by a few points and is so damn hard to time.
Being able to switch out equipment during battle without losing a turn is nice too, especially if you have money to spare to make 4 elemental weapons and change out to match your target's weakness(es).
Right now I'm running around with Rolf, Nei, Amy, & Kain. Just got Kain and handed him Rudo's equipment, and I have Amy just stand there armed with a pair of shields charging up for a Na Reverse (5 turns to charge and it heals 100% & revives if able) to get Kain back before the fight ends if he dies.
I have to say though, playing without knowing most of what's said is kinda fun. It reminds me of playing games when I was younger; Just pushing buttons until something goes.

I'm still upset these never got here. crying
If they wanted a package for U.S. release why not just stick other games in with the remakes. Like the two originals with the two remakes, add an art gallery, sound test ect... It's just as good as some of those other package deals they release all the time.
