Wolfs Rain
Story
The series Wolf's Rain begins in a northern city of a dying world where mountains and forests have been stripped bare and the majority of people live in poverty and hardship. According to a nearly forgotten legend, when the world was coming to an end, Rakuen (Paradise) will appear but only wolves will know how to find it. Wolves were supposed to have been hunted to extinction nearly two hundred years ago, however unknown to most humans, the wolves still live, surviving by using illusions to give themselves human appearances.
Kiba, an injured lone white wolf enters a city following the scent of the Lunar Flowers, which are the key to opening Paradise. There he encounters Tsume, Hige, and Toboe, three other wolves living in the city who were drawn there by the scent of the Lunar Flowers. The wolves also have their first encounter with Quent Yaiden, a former Sheriff obsessed with searching for and killing wolves, and his dog Blue. Cheza, the Flower Maiden who will lead the wolves to Paradise, is being studied at a laboratory under the care of Cher Degré. She is awakened by the smell of wolf's blood. As Kiba and Hige approach the lab to find her, she is stolen away by Lord Darcia the Third, whose people created Cheza.
With Cheza gone, none of the wolves have any reason to stay in the city. Despite some initial misgivings and suspicions they decide to stick together and follow Kiba in his search for the Flower Maiden and Paradise. As they pursue Cheza, the wolves travel through various cities and the empty shells of former habitations. Cher joins the city's army to try to recover Cheza, while Cher's ex-husband Hubb searches desperately for Cher, and Quent continues his relentless pursuit of the wolves. When Blue eventually encounters Cheza, it awakens her sleeping wolf blood and causes her to she leave Quent and taken on her own human illusion. She joins Kiba's pack and travels with them for awhile, developing a relationship with Hige. After she gets separated from the pack, she travels with Cher, while Hubb finds himself traveling with Quent, who is now searching for Blue as well as the wolves.
The wolves and the humans come together in Jagara's city, where the captured Cheza is being held. In attempting to rescue Cheza, Kiba, Tsume, and Toboe are captured. Tsume and Toboe are thrown into a dungeon with Hubb while Jagara attempts to use Kiba's blood to force open Paradise. Blue and Cher also make their way into the Keep as does Quent. Darcia interrupts the ceremony as Kiba and the other wolves break free and rush to free Cheza. Darcia kills Jagara and battles Kiba as Jagara's keep collapses around them. The wolves and the humans barely escape with their lives, though Quent is badly wounded saving Blue from falling debris.
The wolves, now accompanied by Cher, Hubb, and Quent, continue trying to make their way to Paradise, pursued by the now insane Darcia. A combination of environmental factors and Darcia's hostility causes most of the characters to die in tragic circumstances, until only Kiba, Cheza, and Darcia are left at the place where Paradise can be opened. Darcia is destroyed when he attempts to enter Paradise. Cheza's body disintegrates into seeds. Fatally wounded, Kiba believes his quest has failed, but as he lays dying, rain begins to fall and he sees Cheza's seeds grown into thousands of lunar flowers.
As the series close, we see Toboe, Tsume, Hige, and Kiba in their human forms in a modern city. Kiba, who was walking down a busy sidewalk begins running towards a lunar flower lying in a puddle in an alley.

Kiba
(キバ "Fang")
The (more or less) leader of the pack, Kiba is a wolf who follows his instincts towards Paradise. When he was young, his pack and family were slaughtered when the forest where he lived was burned to the ground by Jaguara's troops. He was then raised by a shaman who told him that he had a purpose, explaining why the forest had sheltered him from the flames. The shaman told him that he would have a great journey ahead of him, and that journey was to find Paradise. Kiba begins his quest for Paradise in the hope that there he will finally find peace. It is revealed later in the series that he is in fact the chosen one who is destined to find and open Paradise. Kiba tends to be impulsive and thinks with his heart rather than his head. He tends to be distrustful toward humans, and in the early episodes his pride as a wolf makes him reluctant to disguise himself as a human. He's also attracted to and utterly devoted to Cheza.
Tsume
(ツメ "Claw")
Tsume is a rough, self-reliant wolf. In the past, he was part of a pack. However, one day his pack was attacked by Jaguara's troops and many of his family and friends were killed. During the fight, Tsume attempted to flee, leaving all of his dead and dying brethren behind. Because of this, the rest of the pack cast him out, and the alpha attacked him, leaving him with a large X-shaped scar across his chest. After that, and not knowing what to think, Tsume did not talk to, get to know, or trust other wolves for many years, and became the leader of a group of human thieves. However, he eventually meets Toboe,a young wolf whom he calls "Runt" throughout the series,who at first seems to annoy him. However, Tsume later feels sympathy and compassion for Toboe, who is the one who eventually convinces him to come with the rest of the "pack" to Paradise. However, he does not believe the stories of Paradise in which Kiba tells them, and claims he only follows the others out of boredom of his original home. He often finds himself in conflict with Kiba, finding his single minded devotion to be irritating. However, he does eventually become a believer and enjoys the company of his pack mates. After Kiba, he is the best fighter among the wolves and is more analytical and observant. At the end, he dies by helping Kiba defeat Darcia. He does not realize that he is dying until he tries to get up, but looks down to see his side and legs torn open. Before falling over he whispers "We shall meet again.... in paradise" in which after falling over, it shows the blood stain from his back on the rock. Then after the ending song, it shows him as a human riding a motor bike.
Hige
(ヒゲ "Whisker")
Hige seems to know how to function the best in human society. He tends to use his intuition more than the others, but only when he is not thinking with his stomach instead. Hige is something of a womanizer and is always on the look-out for a female companion. He starts off as a laid back joker, though he matures as the series goes on. His scenting ability seems to be the best of the pack. Before Hige met Kiba, he was brainwashed into being Jagara's lapdog by hunting and leading troups to wolves. The collar that he wears is actually a tag/transmitter that allows him to wander through Jagara's city and is always under surveillance. It also appears to be the thing that controlled him or reprogrammed his memories, as he was trapped in an endless migraine before it was shot off by a soldier. At least 22 other wolves were collared in this way (a soldier inspecting his collar refers to him as "Number 23"); many, if not all, of the others were killed after returning to Jagara's city. He holds a very close relationship with Blue.
Toboe
(トオボエ "Howling")
Toboe is the youngest of the group, often acting more like a puppy than a wolf. Toboe was raised as a pet by "Granny", an elderly woman, whom he accidentally killed in an unrestrained act of playfulness. The silver bracelets are all he has left of her. Toboe maintains an affection for humans that none of the other wolves can understand (with the exception of Blue). On one occasion Toboe saves Quent from freezing to death in the snow by sharing his body warmth with him, and is later grateful to discover that Quent has survived despite the fact that Quent immediately tries to shoot him. Toboe looks up to Tsume and usually follows him when the group splits up. He also seems to have the best hearing out of all of them. He often is more shy than bold, although when the pack is in dire threat his rage can stand beyond his timid nature and propel him ravenously into battle. An example of this is when the pack are crossing an ice floe and are attacked by a giant walrus. At first, Toboe is frozen in fear, but when it seems that the others are about to be killed Toboe suddenly attacks the walrus himself and manages to defeat it despite almost drowning in the process. Though he still acts like a puppy in some ways, the others now consider him an adult, and a valuable fighting partner. In the OVA series Toboe unsuccessfully attempts to protect Quent from Darcia and both he and Quent are mortally wounded. Realizing that it was Toboe who saved him previously, Quent finally understands that wolves are not evil and comforts the dying wolf as his own life ebbs away. As he dies Toboe has a vision of Paradise in which he is reunited with Granny and able to run and play as a pup. Later Tsume spends some time alone with Toboe's body and drops his tough-guy image to weep for his friend.
After the Earth's regeneration Toboe is apparently reincarnated in his human form in what looks like a 21st Century Japanese city.
Blue
(ブルー Burū)
A wolfdog who was pet to the family of Quent Yaiden. After the destruction of her home and family in the village of Kyrios (Curious), she travels with Quent hunting wolves under the belief that they were responsible for the tragedy. She lives her life as a pet dog, unaware of her wolf bloodline. Upon meeting Cheza, the wolf in her is awakened. Unable to continue hunting her own kind, she leaves Quent to travel with the pack to Paradise. She grows especially close to Hige.

Personality and description: Cheza was kidnapped by Darcia from a secret lab. Cheza is emotionally connected with the wolves Kiba(mostly kiba), Tsume, Hige, and Toboe. They find her when she abandons Darcia's ship for reasons unknown. When the pack does find her, Kiba demonstrates a strange infatuation towards her. Protective of her, Cheza stays in the pack. She is young and innocent, and ignorant of the evil world around her. She has red eyes, and will supposedly lead the pack to the fabled Paradise.

History(whoot! autobiography style!): I once lived in a pack with over twenty members. they said there was such thing as a paradise. and that a girl called the flower maiden could turninto a wolf. one time they thought tis one wolf was cheza, she lied to them all. i tried to tell them but they took out my right eye. i never even belived in such a thing as paradise, it's only a drean to keep young wolves running until the day they die. i always knew it didn't exist. i travel with my younger sister mizu.

Ryoku Sat Up, Ears Perked Listening To The Story Blue Was Telling Her... About The Paradise That They Soon Be In. The Street Lights Flickered And The Moon Was Full. She Could Hear Howls Of Sadness And Lonlieness In The Distance, She Looked Up Every So Often Untill She Rested Her Head On Blue And Fell Into A Deep Slumber.

Tenshi and Mizu walked closley together over barren landscape except for a cliff that rose up out of the ground on their right. they didn't know where they were going but they were going there. they never really had a home since they left their birthpack.
Tenshi walked on at a steady pace thinking to herself, "paradise... there's no such thing. only a fairytale about wolves that were hallucinating saying they found a beautiful world. they were stupid to thin they were seing an actual place." Tenshi stopped for a second and let mizu catch up.
Mizu walked on, steadily slowing down because she was getting tired. the scar over her face was a deep red from the whole time the scar had stayed there. it almost seemed as if it was permanent. "hey tenshi," Mizu said," how many days you think we have left before we die of hunger? it has been about a month since we last ate."
"i don't know," Tenshi said," but this heat is killing me. maybe we can find shade in that cave over there." tenshi walked into it and kept going. the scent of water was enticing her deeper in. the cave started to incline upward as it felt like they were climbing a mountain.
Mizu folowed close behind and kept the tip of tenshi's tail in her mouth so they would not get seperated in the pitch black darkness.

The cavern eventually lead to a blockage of wood that tenshi tore through with ease. it branched off to a bigger tunnel which was made of concrete. some cracks in the top let light in and slightly lilluminated the tunnel. Tenshi chose a direction and started walking again. She looked back a few times to make sure mizu was following still.
Mizu smiled and let go of the ip of tenshi's tail. it was illuminated enough in the tunnel sho mizu could see tenshi with ease.

Ryoku Got Up It Was Dawn...All She Could Remeber Was Blue's Soft Voice Telling The Story And She Sat Down And Smiled At them.Ryoku Got Up Maybe She Could Go Get Some Food For Them, At Least...She Got Up And Ran Towards The Building That Were Buzzing With People. She Herself Had Transformed And Smiled At The People Until She Saw Food! her Belly Growled She Walked Past Pretending To Be An Everyday Person...But She Couldn't Stand It, She Jumped Towards The Food And Grabbed A Few Hot Dogs. The Person Noticed And Jumped Towards Her Yelling Curses But Her Speed Was Too Fast For Them. Ryoku Looked Back And Laughed Cheerfully, Untill She Crashed Into Someone. "Uhm... Im Sorry" She Squeled But She Noticed It Wasnt A Human It Was One Of Her kind.Ryoku Gasped and She Backed Away.

The wolf mix had run straight into Tsume, who narrowed his eyes. "Watch it, kid." he said, slightly agrivated. He moved around the female and continued towards where Kiba had wanted them to meet.
Kiba, who had only strayed away from Cheza for a short distance, was still on edge as he headed towards the city to meet with Tsume, who had agreed if he could stay in the city for a short while, then he'd supply food

Tenshi walked aong until they reached the end of the tunnel. it opend up onto a forest that was filled with wildlife. "i wouldn't mind staying here for the rest of my life," Tenshi said. she walked along until she came to a clearing that had a lake in the center. there were flowers of all shapes and colors everywhere. and there seemed to be remains of old buildings near the lake that water ran over.
"this place is beautiful," Mizu said as she padded closer to the water.

Cheza blinked and sat down slowly, the wind slowly making her hair sway with gentle strokes. She glanced up at Kiba only once the placed her finger in a small puddle by her feet. The puddle soon began to glow as a flower slowly rose from it and bloomed. She smiled sweetly and closed her eyes
