So, I head to Balmora to join the Mage's Guild. Guildmaster tells me Larrius Varro is looking for me. I head over to Moonmoth. He tells me about the bad people and the bloodbath. I go back to Balmora, talk around, and find out who the bad people are. Varro gets his bloodbath. I go to a guard to clear my name.
Death warrant. mad
So, I run to Moonmoth. Imperial guard attacks me, but I run away and go talk to Larrius. He gives me a ring, worth quite a pretty penny, and tells me he's cleared my name. I leave the fort. Off to Caldera. Imperial guards swarm me and beat me to death.
Nice, pretty, rare item...NOT WORTH IT.
Why did I get attacked after leaving the city I caused trouble in, even though my name was cleared?

Um...well that's interesting.
I usually taunt someone when trying to kill them. Then I don't have to worry about the trouble.
For that mission, once one of them is taunted several will taunt. I only do this though to kill the one guy who has the Nerano manor key for the Thieves' Guild quest. I don't care for Varro's ring...

Well, needless to say, I won't be doing that again. Or if I do, I'll clear my name one body at a time... xd

You don't need to kill him to get the key. Just get him to like you and ask about the key. He'll say something that'll make you bribe him again and he'll just give you the key.

If you want to decrease your bounty for killing people, let the target catch you picking his pocket. Wait for him to land the first blow, and then your killing him will be considered in self-defense and you'll only be charged with pickpocketing.
