Well I said I would copy and paste certain chapters of my Youko/Kuronue fanfic. So, here I am holding up to my word. We will start at chapter one. ^_^(My pen name on aff.net is BWinner by the way)
Written by: BWinner Wednesday, September 07, 2005 (Completion date: Saturday, October 27, 2007)
BWinner’s note: Well, here I am starting another saga. It’s one I am hoping is less traveled by Yu Yu Hakusho authors. I am not quite sure when it came to me, but I have had the desire to write it for quite a while now, just haven’t had the time what with working on “Trials of a Youkai’s Heart” and all. If any of you people reading this have seen that fic… and enjoyed it, I hope you come to enjoy this one just as much.
Disclaimer: I have no ties to this show what so ever, it belongs to Togashi sama. One darn talented manga ka!
Warnings: Swearing, angst, violence, and lemon…
Rating: This chapter is PG-13
Pairing: Youko/Kuronue/Youko
How it all began
Youko Kurama scratched the back of his head slightly, he was sure it had been in here yesterday… Something was wrong here, very wrong. Over the past few weeks, things had become lost in his den, as if suddenly vanishing into some strange black hole. The spirit fox growled low in his throat, this was beginning to anger him. With his ears flattened on his silver mane he put a hand to his forehead and tried to think. What could be causing this?
Senility was ruled out first; if he was coherent enough to continue with his work, plundering the Demon World, then it was simply not an option. Not to mention that his pride would never allow him to think he was getting older. The next thing to be crossed off his list was curses; he had far too many defenses against those placed in and around his lair. The only other thing to cross his mind for a fraction of a second was… another thief.
Who in the three worlds would be able to manage that though? Hell, who in their right mind would want to? He was Youko Kurama for god’s sake! The most feared bandit in the entire Demon World. There was no one who could out wit him, no one who could get around the plants and traps he had placed around his lair. But it seemed that someone had… Some brave and ultimately stupid demon had managed to break into his lair. Well it was going to be their last mistake. Youko had become feared for a reason; no one ever lived when they dared to cross his bad side and this apparition would be no exception.
It was late and Youko was growing tired of waiting. He was strategically hidden in a corner of his den, with a valuable object in plain view, waiting… waiting. Damn it for half the bloody night he had been waiting! Much to Youko’s disgust the thief’s pattern seemed to be stealing an object every night, so where were they? Had they gotten bored? Did they have all they wanted from him? Youko shook those thoughts from his mind, they would only anger him further as admitting that would be admitting that he had been out witted and he did not want to do that.
Suddenly there came a small sound, barely audible, but there. Youko crouched lower in his hiding spot and continued to hold the mask on his energy. He sensed no energy being emitted from the apparition meaning that they obviously had the same trick in covering their presence. So being very good at stealth they had managed to sneak in and out with out the detection of the occupant… but how had they gotten around the plants? Youko checked them every morning and there was never anything wrong with them, what was their secret?
The spirit fox was both angry and intrigued now; he wanted answers from this apparition. Crouching lower still, Youko held his ground, continuing to wait for the opportune moment to strike. Finally after seeing only darkness for so long, an opportunity presented itself.
A slight glimmer of red caught the spirit fox’s eyes, it swung back and forth as it moved along, as if attached to a being. Then once Kurama adjusted his eyes a little harder he could see that it was in fact attached to a being! The dark shadowy creature moved closer and closer to the object in view, a platinum bracelet studded all around with hiruseki stones.
It was a small trinket Kurama had stolen a while back and one he really held no interest in anymore, but he hoped it would entice the thief. So far things looked good, the shadowy figure was still moving towards the object. A pale hand reached out and fingered the soft round gems on the bracelet before picking it up and twirling it between their digits. Then suddenly the object was returned and a soft chuckle registered in the spirit fox’s ears.
“Come out, come out where ever you are…” a deep tenor taunted.
Youko resisted the urge to growl. Damn it, how did he know? The silver haired fox had taken every precaution necessary for this not to happen. This demon was precariously standing on his final nerve.
“Oh come now Youko, did you really think this would work? I could see what you had planned the minute I saw the bracelet on the table. You never leave your valuables lying around, so this trap says that you must have anticipated my little visit. I’m impressed, honestly I never thought that you would have figured it out, but then again, maybe I was just getting sloppy,” the cocky voice laughed.
It was very hard for Youko to restrain himself now, but he knew he must. Acting in anger would not go well. Besides, for how much he wanted to kill the demon he still needed information from him, to prevent an incident like this from ever happening again. Slowly Kurama sent out a bit of youki to his plants on the far side of the room, but nothing traceable for the other apparition in the room to pick up on. The vines crept along the floor silently, inching closer and closer to their victim. However when they went in for a strike they were struck down as if they had encountered some form of barrier.
“So you’re going to be that way are you? I’m sorry, Youko, I really have no time for cowards… It’s such a disappointment, you’re not as great as they say after all,” the demon sighed.
Youko watched in anger as the shadow slowly turned and he could hear it beginning to walk away. Well he would not have that, brandishing one of his favourite instruments, a red rose, he called out the infamous words; “Rose whip!” and the tiny flower grew into the long and deadly weapon. This startled the shadowy demon and before he could react the whip had sliced of the pendant and was dutifully returning the trinket to its master.
“So, this must be your little secret,” Youko mused as he stood from his hiding place.
Once again he sent his vines out and this time there was no hindrance in them reaching and binding their prey. Youko heard a soft growl and grinned, “Ah, I see I am right.”
Cautiously Youko walked over to his trapped prey, still wary of any surprises that he may have. Flicking a seed into the wall next to them Youko produced a single glowing flower. A lamp weed. He looked the other over up and down, sizing him up and assessing how much of a blow should be striking his ego. He eventually decided that it should be a large one… it was a bat demon. This one didn’t look like anything special either… in fact he looked down right pitiful in Youko’s eyes.
A thin, wiry frame that was almost starved in appearance and dressed in what the spirit fox could only call rags. A ripped vest that had been crudely sewn together to cover his upper body, tight black pants that looked to be two sizes too small, a wrap around of white and a worn looking visor hiding a sloppy ponytail. Not something that Youko could have expected at all. The spirit fox snorted now, finished with his inspection and not pleased with the results. “Give me your name,” he demanded in a harsh tone.
The other demon only smirked. “Now why do you think I would be stupid enough to do that?” he asked.
“I have killed with far less demands and you are in no position to argue with my wishes vermin… your name… Now,” he demanded once again.
“Ooh, I must really have bruised your ego… not only are you keeping me alive longer, you are desperate to know my name… Fine, since it seems as if I am about to die… Kuronue,” Youko’s captive replied.
“Kuronue is it… How long have you been stealing from me, be completely honest and yes, your life does depend on your reply,” Youko insisted.
“A little under a month, about three and a half weeks,” Kuronue sighed, realizing this was a fight he wasn’t going to win.
A low growl escaped Youko’s throat again. How in the hell did a talented thief like him miss it!? The gem he held now must have been the reason, he could feel a great power with in it, and with out this precious stone the thief in captivity now seemed to be very helpless. Youko had to admit he was very tempted to take the stone from the thief and just kill him off, be done with the problem quickly and efficiently... but something wouldn't let him.
"Where did you get a thing like this?" another harsh demand came from the fox.
"I've had it since my birth," the other replied in a bored tone. "Are you going to kill me and get this over with or what?" he asked in turn.
The spirit fox seemed to think the question over very carefully. That of course was the simplest solution, but unbeknowst to anyone else, Youko had actually been considering hunting out a partner, and this could prove very useful. As much as he did hate to think about it, someone who had the powers to steal from the legendary thief, would naturally be able to keep up with him on his heists. Finally Youko decided that he could use this power very much to his advantage with someone who knew it inside and out.
"No... I am not going to kill you," Youko finally replied. "Rather... I have a proposition for you... a test..."
"I'm listening..." Kuronue trailed off in an intrigued tone. He supposed, he really had nothing to lose now.
To be continued...
So there it is... I am still working on the second chapter though so don't expect it for a while.
