Random topic about anything pertaining to Nightmare, ugliness, the combination of the two, or just things completely apart from the topic title. Well here I was searching on Youtube today for random stuff and I ran into one of my most favorite of "ecchi" (well not really ecchi, considering it's a bit more hardcore) games/animes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AptRTKwDHQs

Indeed, why is Nightmare ugly?
I thought he looked best in SCIII, but I don't like how he's losing his humanoid shape as of late...

Eskimo of Doom I perfer SC II Nightmare better....>.> SC2s nitemare was a human. SC3s is soul edge incarnate. He is a collection of memory and souls, fused into a being of evil. Making him an ugly mother help portray that he has lost or is losing all of his humanity. now that is the uber english nerd answer. heres the gamer answer. Nitemares ugly cause hes an evil character. Its so much easier to beat on an ugly character too. it like punching a really pretty guys face and laughing as he cries like a sissy. Although if you smash an ugly guy, it wont make him look ant worse....oh no! Nitemare is the ultimate weapon!!! gonk blaugh man im stupid

Blasio de la Roz Indeed, why is Nightmare ugly? I thought he looked best in SCIII, but I don't like how he's losing his humanoid shape as of late... I'm just wondering, would Nightmare have human needs like food, water, etc? I mean if Siegfried was imprisoned in that form for majority of his life, to maintain a healthy body woudn't Nightmare need to fulfill those needs?

I think he still does but since he's all demonized I think he might be able to go for a longer time without them. I dunno I'm just adding in my two cents. sweatdrop

Nightmare wasn't do ugly in SC II. It used to just his armor that wasn't very attractive. I guess now that pretty-boy Sieggy's ditched him in the dust, he's just getting uglier and uglier as he slowly loses his form? Or maybe it's all that miasma and glowy crap that Namco is adding onto him to make him less and les human that's taking away from his lookage factor... >_>
I always thought Nightmare (without the armor, of course) was kinda handsome.

Well considering that the human element (Siegfried) has been removed from him, I guess the demonic factor of Nightmare is what the characters wanna focus on more.

Why is Nightmare ugly? Well that's an easy one. There's an effect that's used quite commonly, especially among Anime and Video Games. This effect, you see, makes sure that any hero is charismatic and near-perfect, while the villain will be as ugly and/or intimidating as humanly possible. This effect can be used for many reasons, like making sure that the viewer/player isn't angry or sad when the villain is killed, or to add the sense of fear that the villains should give.
But, if you would rather believe this one: Namco originally wanted Soul Edge to show only slight sentience. This slight sentience was originally best shown as a fleshy monstrocity, showing the almost animal-instinct that the sword had. But, this idea was scrapped later on in the series, but the idea of Nightmare stuck.
Tada. I have succesfully killed the topic.

Actually, there are a lot of villaneous anime/manga-stype characters that are quite the opposite of ugly. Sephiroth is a very good example (nevermind all those extra wings he sprouts in the final battle, because he still has his head and most of his upper torso). And then there's Vicious from "Cowboy Bebop," Xemnas/Xehanort from "Kingdom Hearts", Diva from "Blood+", Sailor Galaxia from "Sailor Moon," and the list goes on and on. And it is also come to my attention that a lot of the fans of Anime/Manga/Japanese video games prefer the villain as opposed to the hero. That aside, your theory would most definitely work on characters that appear in regular novels and movies.

Another example has been found! Look at what is happening to Raphael! eek Although he is still keeping his roguish good looks and his devilish charm, Hes turning into a vampiric dude. I spose its just helping portray the corruption of Soul Edge. Cervantes still looks human too. Although hes purple confused Maybe Nitemare just wants to be ugly? Is he not the stuff of nightmares? and cheesey to boot.

No, Cer Vix-a-Lot (genius!) hasn't been revealed for SCIV yet, but the way you were talking made it seem like he has.
