Mental Ballad

From the middle of the city, a tall, looming tower stands pridefully. Nobody bothers paying attention to anything around it. The people just walk in and out, glancing at their watches, or maybe even debating with another. The foliage and architecture is almost breathtaking. Fragile, newly planted trees sway with the winds and are nourished from the fountain sitting in front of it all. Water flows from the center of the cascading bowls and into a pool. Daytime brings almost silence to the front of this place.

~~~
Kiran found the solace of the office building soothing today. After wheeling and dealing with the trials of city-life, he had decided to get a well-deserved break. He was not yet read to return back to his owner. She was busy as well.
He lay underneath a metal bench, feeling himself fall asleep. Kiran's eyes drooped, letting the blurred vision of day escape from view. His breating was soft and his head lay tilted atop his paws. Every so often, his tail would wag back and forth, mind lost in happier days. Mist from the fountain flickered througout the air, leaving behind a timid rainbow in the sky, appearing scarcely.
Ashton was excited; he had been trying to finalize the last of the documentations to make his vet practice legal and they had arrived with the mail that morning.
There was another buisness on this floor as well as others scattered throughout the levels. He had noted the doggy door on their main door. He took mental note, Roxy would probably be down there....But at least they seem pet friendly. He busied himself bringing boxes into the empty space, slowly stalking his new space. He never worried about his pup, Roxy, even in her early age she was too fond of him to wanter very far.
Roxy's nose smelt something...peculiar. She had never smelt such a scent before yet couldn't resist figuring out what it was. Quietly, she slipped through the doggy door.
There were a few rooms, a couple closed doors and an odd number of scattered desks; she frowned. She tried again, sniffing lower.
Aha...she was on the trail again.
With her nose to the carpet, she followed the invisible trail until she stopped in suprise, was that another dog? "Excuse me..." She called out, not wanting to stir his slumber, yet unable to quench her curiosity.
With a bothered groan, Kiran slowly opened one of his eyes. A long-haired girl, one that looked similar to himself was staring at him curiously. Groggily, he lifted his head from his paws a little and opened his other eye.
"What do you want?" Kiran asked with a rude tone.
It seemed he was always being bugged or toyed with recently. A majority of the dogs he met were girls. Hey, he had no problem with that. Kiran loved being around them. He was always so smooth and witty around them when he felt like it. Why wouldn't they be attracted to him? A smirk escaped Kiran's mouth but was quickly replaced by a stern look, with both eyes now open.
She looked around, caught by surprised by his aggravation. When she realized he was directing his attitude towards her, her brow furrowed.
"I'm sorry to wake you Sir," She began, her tone was emotionless, "But I was wondering if there were others like you around here." She sat on her rump, the tip of her tail moving slightly.
"You see, you’re the first I've met. I can't really say your the most company, but, you still are another dog. Which leads me to believe there could be others such as ourselves around here.."
Her ears twitched at the mechanical hum of the lights, they seemed to make her coat gleam and shine.
She really didn't want to interrupt his nap, an would quickly be on her way if he could just steer her in the right direction.
"Others that wouldn’t mind showing a lady a bit of politeness every once in a while" She added as she lifted her paw to her mouth, her soft pink tongue ran across it lightly, Roxy's attitude problem was getting the best of her already.
Kiran narrowed his eyes warily. My, how he liked those with an attitude to rival his. Not many others enjoyed a good fight with words quite like he did. His usually landed himself in trouble. He shook his head in attemept to wake himself up and grinned at her smugly.
"What lady?" he asked, mocking her. "Besides, I'm more than certain I'm the only one here. If you're looking for etiquette, try the dog show."
There was of course, no dog show nearby. Kiran enjoyed toying with others, but hardly had any idea of proving himself to be polite in anyway. Kiran was by no means polite, proper or regal, he contradicted his appearance often.
"However, if you're looking for something to keep you occupied, I'd suggest keeping your 'tude under wraps." Kiran said as he slinked out from under the bench and revealed himself fully.
Her tongue paused in mid-air, then she rolled her eyes at the lady remark, adding “How classy” As he continued to insult her. When he finally finished, she rose to her feet and left.
Yes, he was rather cute…handsome even!...Though, his charm was quickly diminished as their conversation continued. ‘As soon as males open their mouths, everything goes to ‘s**t’..’ She remembered with a grin.
“Well. I’m sorry for bothering you. Thanks for nothing.” She said softly, her sweet voice mildly disguised the sting of poison her eyes delivered.
She yawned and began to back-track her way out of the devils den, wanting nothing more then to put this all behind her; she wouldn’t let him ruin her future meetings with others so, she would simply forget him.
As she was about to leave, an unknown human called out to her. Gleefully, she bounced towards the human and let herself be pat and caressed. What did she get for her troubles? A brand-new squeaky toy!
When the female human had finally relented on the attention, she slipped out the doggy door with the toy clutched in her teeth, sprawling out in the hallway as she began to chew her way to the source of the sound.
((KIRAN'S A *****! *brick'd*))
As it was, Kiran decided that while he was awake, he might as well try to make amends with this other, seeing as she was the only option for entertainment. Kiran felt a little bad for insulting her, but he thought that a girl of her status wouldn't like being called a lady. Gah, girls played so many tricks, it was almost impossible for him to follow their mindset.
With a series of well-orchestrated manuvers to avoid the humans by all costs, Kiran followed the female, rather curious about her next activity. He came to a close encounter with one, but he was too busy to even notice him, or he simply paid him no attention, figuring Kiran was normal ot see around here.
Kiran finally found the female, and hid behind a false potted plant, watching her play wit the chew toy. He was rather fescinated with th toy itself, wondering why it made such a high-pitch squeal everytime force was put upon it. Was it in pain?
"Listen, I'm sorry. I get really cranky after waking up from a nap. Nothing against you." said the potted plant to Roxy.
((LOL! XD, She'll be an adult soon enough...remember?))
She unclentched her jaw, letting the toy fall to the ground with a squeek. She contimplated saying something 'smart', yet decided to put things behind them.
"It's alright.." She said with a smirk, "I Guess you could say you need all the beauty sleep you can get....So..I can't really blame you for being angry..." She batted her eyelashes innocently, chomping down on the toy and making it squeek loudly as she laughed. She had the oddest sense of humour.
"D'you see what that human gave me?" She asked, picking up the toy and nearing Kiran, dropping it at his feet. "'Quite nice humans you live with.." She added with a sincere smile.
Her tail wagged to her side loosely, consistent with her movements. She lay down, letting him have a go with the toy as she watched his reaction, "So are there any fun places in this building?"
((owo Really! SCHWEET!~))
Kiran was relieved to finally find someone who had enough patience to put up with his character flaws. Deciding to take advantage of a opportunity for an adventure he leaped out from behind the plant, playfully, landing with no sound --despite his size-- on the tips of his paws.
Mustering up all the charm he could, Kiran smiled handsomely and snatched the chew toy up, making it fly into the air. Many an object he'd practiced this skill with, as he caught it in his mouth without letting it fall to the ground.
"Heh, if I lived here, I'd be even more smug than I am already." he admitted as he dropped the toy to the floor. "To answer your question, no."
Kiran paused for a second, thinking around to all the places he'd visited prior to Roxy's visit. Then it hit him.
"Unless you're interested in a little trickery and theivery of some of this place's snackage!" he said almost deviously.
Since her new found adopter had taken her in, she had tried her best to be a 'good' puppy.. She never tore his shoes.. Never barked excessively... She tried to please him.
She wasn't a 'goody-tooshoos' of any sort, she simply loved and devoted herself to her savior.
He seemed to be feeding her curious nature, her little bad-a** attitude.
She knew it might be wrong, but really wanted to impress him. "Well..as long as you don't ditch me to take the blame alone..." she said softly, hopping he wouldnt use her in such a manner.
"Wheres the extra special snacks at?" Asked Roxy as her tongue poked through her teeth, starring bright eyed with a wagging tale.
Likewise, Kiran was almost the opposite, but still born with enough common sense to not make a total a** of himself around those with decency. Food, however was a big deal, for real.
"Now what kind of a gentlemen would I be to do that?" Kiran said.
The guy was uusally not a gentlemen from the first glance, but when it came to food, he was serious. He looked around the hallway in an attempt to relocate the human's "food room". Close to everthing in this building looked similar. He lifted his maw up and sniffed the air in many directions.
"Looks liiiike.....over.....there!" Kiran announced with a point of his snout in the direction they same from. Eagerly, he bounded towards the main hall, from where the cafetorium could be reached.
She raced after him, gleeyfully nipping at the tip of his tail as she closed the gap between them. She tried to smell the air...There was something that seemed to catch her interest, yet she didnt know why...She was new to 'people' food.
She watched Kiran running infront of her and noticed his strong, fluid body movements, along with his attractive coat; what a dog!
"Now where?" Asked Roxy as she slowed her pace and panted slightly for a few momments, looking up and down the halways which had branched off. "Wait..Let me try.." She took a deep breath as she raised her nose in the air....."Left!" She exclaimed with excitement.
With an almost bashful smirk, he sprinted the direction Roxy mentioned. Surprised at her keen sense of scent, he peered around the corner and quickly snapped back.
He couldn't help but feel the adrenline rush through him as she exhaled. Kiran looked back at Roxy, watching her catch up. The thought of her put him in a slight trance as the rest of the world disappeared. Not many females he came across had the same disposition as a male, but still tender as most females were.
An off-key chord sprang up in his head and spun an idea in his head as he watched a man dressed in white grumble to himself in another language even more quizzical to comprehend than english; to the dogs of course.
"Alright, let's first see what these human are doing in here and piece together a plan." Kiran said in a low voice.
She nodded in silence, winking as she romped past him towards a young blonde, leaning over trying to find something.
She bounded to the humans side without having been seen, creeped beneath the desk and greeted the fumbling hand with a soft lick as it tried to locate the missing pen.
The woman gasped slightly, then quickly began to speak in an oddly intruiging and exciting tone; Roxy loved the attention.
She pushed her muzzled into the woman’s face, standing up on her hind legs as she lightly placed her two front paws on the woman’s knees. This seemed to delight the two-legger; she even gave roxy a couple bone shaped cookies.
Roxy quickly thanked the woman with a wet kiss and ran towards Kiran with her new prizes; she would share of course.
"Hey! That humans pretty nice...Gave us a couple treats!" she exclaimed as she dropped both cream colored dog cookies on the ground, nudging one his way as she ate her own. "Find anything interesting?" she asked with inquisitive eyes.
As Kiran watched Roxy bound off into the room, he was in shock. She hadn't understood him at all. He couldn't percieve the fact that humans were...caring to another creature lower in the food chain such as himself. Kiran's face fell flat as he looked to be deep in thought.
Gratefully, he nudged the treat atop his snout and lifted it to the air, catching it in his mouth with a quick snap. He munched on it happily, almosr forgetting what a treat actually tasted like. With a flick of his tail he looked off into the room; directly at the human's buffet.
"Well, dog treats are good, granted, but how about the real stuff?" Kiran inquired with temptation rising in his voice.
