Title: Dog Star

Summary: Harry reflects on his godfather's death in the Department of Mysteries. Oneshot.

~*Dog Star*~

It seemed like a normal evening for the residents of Privet Drive. The skies were cloudless, revealing the twinkling stars above. Not many of the stars were visible, however, because they lived so close to the city. For those who couldn't sleep that night, they stared out their windows up at the stars, thinking many things.

Harry Potter was one of those people. It didn't matter that he was different from every person that lived on the block, for he too was human and had emotions. Tonight, though, Harry couldn't get to sleep. His mind kept flashing back to the eventful day when he and a group of fellow witches and wizards left their school to help save Harry's godfather, the "convict" Sirius Black, from Voldemort's clutches. Harry was sure that they were done for when the Order came to their rescue, bringing along Harry's godfather, who was actually safe back at Headquarters. It was that night that Sirius Black would die, leaving Harry with hardly any father-figures left. Bellatrix Lestrange, one of Sirius' cousins and a Death Eater, casted a curse in Sirius' direction. He was hit and fell backward into a veil. He never returned and therefore was claimed dead.

Harry's tear-filled green eyes stared up at the stars, searching for a particular star. His godfather was supposedly named after a star in the Canis Major constellation, named Sirius. Even though the star couldn't turn into his godfather, Harry felt it would give him a little comfort, as if Sirius were watching from that same star.

"I miss you so much," he whispered, his eyes fixed upon the Dog Star. "I never got to tell you how much I..." He wiped his eyes. "I wish I could borrow a Time Turner and catch Pettigrew so you could be free and we would live together, like a family. Professor Lu- Remus keeps sending me letters asking how I am and everything but he's not you. He says that I can tell him anything, that he would be there for me, but I just don't feel comfortable around him, like I was to you. I just wish there was a way to bring you back. I need you."

As Harry tried to reign in his emotions, he felt as though someone was caressing him, touching his hair and back. He knew it was the wind but he pretended that Sirius was doing it, that he was there. For that short time that the wind blew around him, he didn't believe what Nearly Headless Nick said and believed that his godfather was there, comforting him.
