Well, I started my passion by getting a miniature dress form. How? Well, I was at Walmart in the jewelry section(ah-the magic of Walmart) and I found a jewelry holder that was acctually a clothed miniature dress form.
Now, I have seen dress forms and mini DFs at Joan Fabrics, also. Just find one.
Start by removing the clothing. Then use tissue paper with cardboard underneath and start tracing patterns. Cut scrap peices of fabric according to your patterns. Sew them together and start the elimination process. Once you've found some working patterns, buy a full size dress form and enlarge the patterns.
:3 Hope it helps.
