whats the deepest you've been?

my personal bests were 145 on air, 120 on nitrox, 200 on trimix, and 325 on hypoxic trimix. lemme tell you, if you havent tried trimix or technical diving of any kind, i highly recommend it, it makes you a better diver, teaches you better techniques, and help you plan dives for emergency's and the such. lotsa fun biggrin

My deepest depth is on 36 m. so far i remember,,>.<

I have only been diving air for now,,
i do want to do my nitrox specialty,, i also need it for my Dive Master (i am going for instructer) and i do think it will be very usefull,, >o<

But what is trimix if i may ask,,,
I might know it,, but i do my things in Dutch,, xP

Mine was 110, we were supposed to go further, but there was too strong of a current. That made it even more fun though. xd

trimix is a style of mixed gas that consists of oxygen, nitrogen, and helium, the added element being helium. The plus to helium is that it is an inert gas, thus having no negative side affects or postitive effects on the body at an atmosphere. the helium is persay, the "filler space" of the mix. So for example, you wish to go to 300 feet (100m) then you come accross 3 major problems. problem number one is Oxygen levels. in nitrox diving, you should know that the maximum operative depth of air (21% o2 ) is 180 feet at about 1.58 Atmospheres, which is the maximum allowed depth if you were in a stationary form of diving. so you would need less then 21% of oxygen, which brings about problem # 2, which is, the human body cannot stay concious in less then 18% oxygen, but 18% oxygen has a max operating depth of around 200 feet. problem number 3 is nitrogen. some of you may have been "narced" at around 120 feet with 79% introgen with air, well, imagine that narced feeling at 300 feet. it would kill you, so you would need to drop the nitrogen levels so you dont get narced quite as easily. so your three problems are, too much o2, too much nitrogen, and, in orer to get to 300 feet, you need a lower precent of o2 then you can survive off of. so, the helium is used to fix problems one and two, cause then you can mix a gas to a mix like 10% o2, 20% nitrogen, and 70% helium, which is trimix.

now, to fix the problem of staying concious with less then 18% oxygen in the mix, you would need to take what is called a travel bottle with you. its is typically an 80 cubic foot aluminum tank that you keep under your arm with a standard mix in it, typically around 36% oxygen nitrox. when you reach the MOD of 36% (about 90 feet, or 27ish meters) you can switch to your trimix at that depth, because the atmospheric pressure of the oxygen has increased at that depth, allowing you to breathe 10% oxygen safely.

long i know, but trimix is some of my favorite diving, so now you know biggrin

It was very informative.
I've only been to about 92ft, and it was just on air. I didn't stay at that depth long, it was just to reach a cave that was shallower further in.
This is off topic, but my dad has a saying of "people have deep thoughts in shallow water and shallow thoughts in deep water." lol. Obviously, due to being narced.

you'll have fun im sure biggrin where are you doing your certification course at?

I'm doing my deep certification mainly for fun in the keys soon. I think I'm going to slowly become a rescue diver and then potentially a master diver, but I havn't used anything but air so far. I don't know much about Nitrox except that it can poison you at certain depths, so I wouldn't touch it myself till I've gotten certified for it. Trimix is a bit out of my league, from what I've heard, mixing the stuff is dangerous work itself. It's the only way to reach extreme depths, but I don't plan on ever going that deep, I think I'll probably go to about 200 ft. in my life. So far I've nearly hit the recreation limit at 130 feet, at which point my buddy decided to start drawing in the sand when he had about 10 minutes to live, and we had to ascend due to narcosis. I've also had a few bad dreams of spearing a 60 pound grouper very deep and being slowly dragged till I ran out of air (you waste air about twice as fast when you've got adrenaline pumping like that, even if you're only aiming at a fish). Also, speaking of which, do you have any tips for controlling adrenaline so that it doesn't get me killed? I've had 1500 PSI at one moment and 600 a few minutes later at just 70 feet. All I can think of is meditation, and that doesn't really help when you're trying to aim.

The only thing I could suggest is to try your best to stay calm and make sure to keep control of how much you're moving around and how fast you're breathing along with how deeply. Once you can feel the oncoming adrenaline rush, try to calm yourself down to normal before you can't control your breathing. At least for your deep diving, especially when you're getting low on air. Focus on your aim or the fish or whatever you may need to, but do try to stay calm. Anyone else have other suggestions?

Personally, decompression stops don't really appeal to me, so the deepest I've gone so far is about 106 feet. I'll definitely travel to greater depths in my future, but I don't know if doing so will be something I'd like to do often.
