In Episode 20 of Tsubasa Chronicle, Sakura sings an amazingly beautiful and moving song that made me cry the first dozen times I listened to it (in japanese, reading the english translation, mind you). Then I had the displeasure of listening to Yui Makino's attempt at an english version of the song. Let's just say that, while it may be pretty in its own right, it isn't nearly as moving as the original, and doesn't even entirely convey the original point. So, what do I do about it? Well, re-write it myself, of course!
In
red will be the original Japanese lyrics, pauses in each line noted by a /. Underneathe each line in
green will be my re-written lyrics, broken down the same way so you can get a better idea how the song is meant to be sung.

Looks of / kindness from passers-by

Yume wa / tobitatsu no / chiisana / tsubasa de.
We will soar / over the sea / launched by my dreams / with these wings.

Take my hand / and we'll fly away. / Together

we will fly
tooi / umi wo / sora wa / koete.

Kurai / yoru no naka de

shrouded by / the darkness of night.
Yasashii / manazashi no
Oh, the look / of warmth on your face.
anata ni.
How I miss you.
Aitai...
I miss you...
Here's the literal translation of the japanese lyrics. I've tried to stick as close to them as I could.
The faint scent of tears
on my rain soaked cheeks.
The warm look on the face
of travellers.
The music from our childhood
faintly echoes in the background.
The memories I hopelessly try to remember
wander aimlessly.
But with these tiny wings, launched by my dreams
over distant oceans and skies
we'll soar together
to a place where memories never fade.
You light up the way for me
in the darkness of night.
Oh, that warm look
on your face.
I miss you so much...And for those who are curious and don't want to make the extra trip to see what Yui-chan's lyrics for the song are:
Kiss me sweet, I'm sleeping in silence
all alone, in ice and snow.
In my dream I'm calling your name.
You are my love.
In your eyes I search for my memory.
Lost in vain, so far in the scenery.
Hold me tight, and swear again and again
we'll never be apart.
If you could touch my feathers softly, I'll give you my love.
We set sail in the darkness of the night
out to the sea
to find me there, to find you there. Love me now, if you dare.
Kiss me sweet, I'm sleeping in sorrow,
all alone to see you tomorrow.
In my dream I'm calling your name.
You are my love.
My love...
Like I said, kinda pretty in its own respects, but still rather meh.
