Well, I saw the first episode of American Idol tonight, and I must say, there were some pretty creepy people...
One guy totally sang about stalking Paula Abdul, and it was... just, ughh...
But, yeah. Did anyone else watch it?
What do you think of past Idols?
My family is an Idol fanatic. We watch it every time, ever, and record the episodes... We also have many of the CDs produced by idols.
(By the way, mods, if y'all don't want this here, feel free to move it, but, if you do, can you please tell where you've moved it to? Thanks.)

The season should end after the auditions. The actual contest part is god awful and everyone knows the winner fades into obscurity a month after they win.

A friend of mine uses the excuse for watching post-audition Idol that it's more fulfilling for him to watch contestants who make it further get booted.
I have no such patience.

BassFu The season should end after the auditions. The actual contest part is god awful and everyone knows the winner fades into obscurity a month after they win. isn't it because they get signed to bad labels and alot of issues are dealt with on the end of royalties and all that. I noticed that the singers tend to get some place though. Kelly Clarkson still has a career. And Clay Aiken, though he wasn't the winner, got his own deal. And Rubin, the winner of that year has a musical career still. But he wasn't marketable due to his size and disney-like lyrics. Or so I was told. Carey Underwood is very successful as well. And she wasn't even a winner. She just did really well. Personally. I do love the first episodes though. Just because the weirdos are great to see. When you see Simon make children my age cry, you can't help but smile. ha. I'm such a saddist

To be honest, it makes me mad...every single time, the one that I want to win, always loses....-_- not one season have they won...and they get rid of a lot of the great singers because they don't have the "look".... stare SCREW THE LOOK!!!!!!! If the voice can give people the chills, dammit they better stay.

It's called market. They sell what people want. People want looks. Who are you going to pick to go out with. A guy that may be really nice and caring, but lives in a cardboard box. Or the guy that is rich, has all the things he needs, but may not treat you as well. Same concept goes here. Who do you wanna see when singing. They may be equally good, but in the end, the looks are going to probably prevail over the talent. Just like most music nowadays. Which to me, is quite the most dis-satasfying thing I have ever really seen. Due to the fact that there are so many bands that are paid off of shock factor, rather than any real talent or ideals.
Because tell me, what does MCR or Marlyn Manson have that hasn't already been sang about? What "clever" little lines are they saying that really makes them stand apart to make them so ideal in the media. Good or bad. The chances are, it was there looks. MM obviously suffered alot for that after the Columbine incident a decade back. But do you think the media would have pinned anything on him if he didn't look the way he did?
So it just proves, to me anyways, that most people care more toward looks than the talent itself. But I suppose that is just an opinion. Not something to really base a real fact on.

Personally, I would pick the guy in the box any day. XP Looks are meaningless if there's nothing behind them. And I hate that music runs more on a look basis....It's just stupid. I love music, I listen to the lyrics, the beat, the song, I don't look at it...

Of course it is, just like william hung. I find that I only watch the auditions and the top 10 and on. I think the auditions are just getting ridiculous though, most of them audition for pure 'tv time' and entertainment. They cant all be serious that they think theyre the best when they cant hold a note.
(Though that stalker was sooo hilarious, and the guy that sang 'no sex allowed' XD ooh and the i am your brother guy was cool)

My dad says they probably screen a bunch of the auditions, 'cause there's no way, they can judge 10,000+ people in 2 days... I laughed at all the three auditions y'all just talked about.
