Staying calm and focus

What are some exercises I can do so I can stay calm and focused enough to do a spell.

Best thing to do is to start daily meditation. There are a ton of books and internet sites about how to meditate.

One of the tricks I learned from a yoga class was to focus on your breathing. As you inhale let your mind listen for the tone So and when you exhale listen for Hum. Hear it in your mind. Try to make them the even count wise.
This tends to still the mind and gives you a good starting point. Also useful for grounding.

An exercise I think is nice and simple but still effective is to pick an object and hold its image or feeling in you mind for as long as you can, when you lose that image pick a new one and repeat. Do this for about five minutes everyday until you can hold a single image for the full five minutes. After that of course keep practicing your new skill with spells and rituals to keep it sharp.

I use many techniques to stay calm and collect my thoughts, the one I find works the best is breathing. Deep breaths while focusing on the flow of your aura, make sure that you won't be distracted while doing it though.
