http://ukpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5gHMrhH2ZTZLR-IGy3eue9go1opsg Or, for those of you who don't want to click links: Quote: Man cooks hand in microwave Jan 9, 2008 A man who believed he bore the "mark of the beast" used a circular saw to cut off one hand, then he cooked it in the microwave and called police, authorities said. The man, in his mid-20s, was calm when Kootenai County sheriff's deputies arrived at his home in Hayden, Idaho. He is now in protective custody in the mental health unit of Kootenai Medical Centre. "It had been somewhat cooked by the time the deputy arrived," sheriff's Capt Ben Wolfinger said. Don't believe me? Just google "hand in microwave". Seriously, this made my day. Social darwinism, people. Social darwinism. Stupid people like this shouldn't be allowed to breed.

I just spent a few minutes laughing at this. I'm still laughing now. What the heck ... nothing would make me cut off my hand and throw it in the microwave.
The only thing that showed he had ANY sense left was that he called the cops. I'm just glad he's in protective custody. People like that should not be walking around because they obviously have problems.
And I thought I had problems... talk2hand

A little extreme, no? Too bad it wasn't... lower, so that he actually could win a Darwin Award. That'd help us all.

That'd help us all. lol yeah, the human race (the world universe really) needs to be protected from that level of stupidity. The Darwin Awards are great. Too bad he doesn't qualify. Though, it'd be hard to find a girlfriend/wife while in a mental institutution.

I don't think stupidity has anything to do with it. My guess is that the man had some sort of psychotic episode, and at the time sincerely believed that he had to do something about his hand unless something worse happened. It might not have been obvious that he had any problem either, until that episode.
If he was trying to trim the hedges with a lawmower because he didn't have clippers, that might merit a Darwin award. But I doubt that this case was a case of lack of common sense.

Though, it'd be hard to find a girlfriend/wife while in a mental institutution. It may be hard. I've never tried to find a partner there... it'd be interesting for some reason. To snow set afire: Yeah, it probably was more psychotic episode than lack of common sense. He just appears to be a tad too superstitious or something akin to that.

When I saw this, I just HAD to click it. Anything that sounds impossible is just SOMETHING I have to see. Of course, I now see it is possible, because he cut it off beforehand. Still, that's kinda messed up... I wonder what he was thinking when he cut it off?
