OMGs it's a chat thread!
It's still cold. I didn't try to start my car the past couple days. I hope it still will. My host family is out of town and it would be very bad if I needed a jump. xd

You don't have your own place?

It's rather hard to afford your own place when you're an underpaid research assistant living in the Chicago area. A host family was by far the best option for a variety of reasons. Why not take advantage of the fact that my employer has a very good reputation and can aquire generous host families for temp employees who aren't from the Chicago area?
I love my host family. They're awesome. They have critters. I will miss the critters to death, I tell you. xd
Yeah, so when I said in the Witchcraft chat thread a while ago that I really DO work for housing rather than pay money, I was actually being serious. whee I don't feel a need for my own place so long as I have a room to call my own and privacy is respected. Environmentally it makes so much more sense for people to live together and pool resources rather than each own their own junk. But I'm a fan of the idea of co-op living in general... stuff like community kitchens or neighborhoods that have a shed for communal equipment. I mean seriously... does a neighborhood really need more than a couple ladders that can reach up to a roof? Why does everyone need to own their own ladder? It's silly. Communal resources man!

Interesting. Do you help out around your host families house?

Yup, a little bit. They're pretty laid back about it though, but maybe that's because I'm not much of a bother to live with. I helped with yardwork earlier in the year and I tend to be the one to shovel the driveway (but that's mostly because I go to work earlier than they do... heh). I buy and cook all of my own food, though we do share things like herbs/spices, oils... the sorts of things you don't tend to use in large quantities.
I suppose one thing to understand is that many folks in the area are quite wealthy. I don't exactly inquire about my host family's income, but given the size of the house, the super awesome home theater system, expensive furnishings, and original artwork... yeah. I imagine that the slight increase in their electric bill caused by me using one of the extra rooms in the house doesn't ammount to much in their eyes. sweatdrop

I see. I don't know if I could do that myself, but if it works for you then great!

I'm almost done anyway. Then it's off on another random adventure to who knows where.
It sucks I can't just be a Craft practitioner full time and somehow survive with that. xd Maybe someday, but it isn't in the immediate future that's for sure.

Holy freaking crap it's windy outside.
And the precious snow is melting. crying
This has been such an odd weather season. Between the below zero temperatuers and then suddenly it's in the upper 40s... this is just rediculous.

I want to be a professional Witch! Way easier said than done. I'm not sure if I'd be truly happy in the long term with that. Persuing the career path I am now is almost just as good if not better for me. But anyway. So we got a foot of snow or so today. Mounds pile up taller than me by the driveway. Now THIS is the sort of snow I've wanted all year. It's a good welcome home present. whee

DragonicFlames Lmao, Starlock, your signature makes me... just... XD LOL! Oh, where did I get the idea from.... I was reading something. What was it... Suffice it to say the idea was inspired from something else. Not copied verbatim, but I think there was a essay I was reading somewhere that talked about 'black' and 'white' magic and they made fun of it by comparing it to race... I thought it was funny too, so I made a siggy out of it. rofl

Tricky, that. Professional witchcraft, I mean. There's uneasiness in Paganism about that. There's far more acceptance of the idea of professional clergy, though.
I mean, you could run a magick shop, teach classes, give tarot readings and so forth. But even with the classes and readings there are people who will be adamant that you shouldn't take money for it, that reciprocation should be in kind. And if you do take money it wouldn't be much.
You could write books, I suppose. Llewellyn doesn't check facts anyway so you can write just about anything and get it published wink

Most places that have classes do charge for admission and time. So I'd be able to make money. My primary income would be in therapy and the like, but I do want to have my own store.
