Place: Purgatory; Time: Unknown; Weather: Terribly hot, I am afraid.

User Image

ɦ o t —ablaze of crusading fire.

The heat was so intense and so very fierce that not even the strongest of creatures would be able to withstand it for an hour without water or shade. All around, from the smallest crevice to the lowest of stairs, all one could feel was the abundant heat one seemed to be hogging up to themselves. Brusque lights flickered in every corner as fire rained down from the air, the shadows cowering down to the nearest of objects to be protected from the inhuman inferno. And although water was plentiful in the floating ruins, it was still an imbibe that not even the most instable of souls would dare upon. With the waters dazzlingly threatening as fire gleamed above the surface, the forsaken façade that blocked this paradise of stop, only those of wretched souls dared to make this neighborhood of the lasting patients of hell.

Welcome to purgatory, dearest stranger.

Rash sways moved hesitantly as light and heat poured impulsively into ivory colored pupils. The colors contracted into a dim shade and surrounded the shrinking pupil with haste. A pale, deadly pale, hand arose from the left as it hovered over above, the object blocking the evading light. The crisp ivory eyes darted right and left in instinct, soft lashes thudding gently with rhythm to the male’s curiosity. The huff and puff of his breathing, silenced by the roar of whipping fire behind, w as a silent rush of inhales and exhales due to the furious heat beckoning below them. He lowered his hand and swung his head aside, a desperate attempt to avoid eye contact with the eternal flames. But, no matter how many angles and objects he attempted to shade his sight with, it was almost certain that the sun was still there.

The swing of his body was brought in one whole motion, arms playing lightly behind him and swaying in every response to his moves; as the collector of souls, by the name of Hades, continued to move, he was quick to note that it was his legs that seemed to have a mind of their own. It was they, a short step after another, which led the daemon deep into his intricate domain, searching for the dormant figure of the Rider War, as it would be he and not his sister that would fully comprehend the opportunity beheld for them.

For a while longer, he continued to walk, eyes darting across the different holding cells of the daemons which Letum had come for. It was at this point that his eyes fell across the massive shape of charred doors, chained together with hell-pit's ore. Hades, finding this position all too amusing, did the great god had to go through all of this? Was he really scared of the riders? He chuckled. Waving a hand across the frame, the chains slithered to the ground with a 'clank'. He smirked, a gentle smile curling across his almost feminine lips. He pushed the door open, stepped into the shadows inside, already feeling the foreign hatred eating at his insides.

"Hello War, did you have a nice dream?"

The inside of the room seemed to be surging with energy. A person who was not used to it would be able to feel the overwhelming pressure pressing down on the room, this pressure, seemed to be even more crippling than the heat. This room was almost completely empty, with black scorched walls. The one feature was a thin, human sized figure standing, spread-eagle against the far wall of the room. From his wrists and ankles streams of dark energy chained him to the wall. As Hades entered the room however, this figure who had been standing with his head down, slowly lifted it, as his wild and unruly hair flew in all directions. It was mere seconds before his black eyelids slid open, revealing glowing, surging orange eyes. As he looked straight at Hades he spoke with a hoarse voice saying, "One thousand...Nine hundred years and that's all you have to say to me? You ask me how my dreams have been?"

This man was Nemisis, also known as War. His skin was as black as coal, and covered in glowing, orange scars, similar to the symbols you'd find on a Muslim Mosque. His hair was so black, it looked like smoke. On the lower portion of his body, he wore metal grieves, with spiked kneepads. Over that, was what looked like the tattered remains of a robe, tied around his waist. The hatred and the power which he held in his body seemed to eminate from him in the form of a dark aura.

Nemisis' lips slowly curled into a smirk, revealing sharp, animal-like teeth and said, "Yes, as a matter of fact, I had a lovely dream...I dreamed of finally destroying that idiotic fool the humans call God..." He chuckled slightly and said, "My name...Is Nemisis...Though your sister refuses to call me by either of my titles...She's decided that I am not good enough for those names...HA! She's simply angry that I've done what no other human could do..." He chuckled again with that same insane laugh and looked Hades in the eye saying, "I cheated her out of a soul for judgement..." He began laughing insanely before finally calming down and saying, "Now then Hades...If you have come here, you must be in need of some help...Release me from my bonds, and you will have it..." He smirked, looking Hades in the eyes.

Feet walking dejectedly behind him, the deity narrowed his eyes with contempt, a little smirk tugging the sides of his lips. “Oh? And what else would you rather me greet you with?” He asked rather curiously, slow steps drawn beneath his slender silhouette. The smirk slowly spread, pulling back his lips so his porcelain face revealed a threatening grin. “Would you rather me announce that your judgment has come? That I, collector and keeper of souls, will finally send you into eternal damnation until you are needed once more?” No silence. He smiled. Pushing back a strand of fiery-red, Hades continued to pace before the Rider, his eyes never parting with his own. “No? I believed not…” He came to stand right before the chained War, hand leaving the silky strands of hair before it rested on his sides once more.

“I have a proposition.” The words came out softly, as nothing more than a breath. “One that I am sure you will surely enjoy.” He stopped, allowing his venomous words to sink in. There was a hiss of air, followed by a thundering scream, announcing that some poor imbecile had entered the realm of Hell, never to return again. Music to his ears. Smiling, a genuine smile, he turned to War once more. “In exchange for your servitude, alliance, and loyalty, I will return to you your powers, weapons, and liberty…” His taunting voice cut the sentence short before he turned on his steps, looking at the door. “My dearest Letum has already refused the offer, as she is still too caught-up in the humans’ God’s ways in order to see the endless possibilities.”

A heavy sigh parted with his tender lips, stirring the hot air around him. No longer could he feel the heat, however, his departed body too cold to feel. A marble sculpture to all who saw. He glanced over his shoulder, a veil of red drawn over his eyes. “A new Apocalypse is coming, one which will not be done under God’s name.” Slowly, oh so dangerously slow, he turned, and faced the daemon by the name of War once more. “…The Fallens have started their movement, so have the demons, but now they need the true ‘stars’ of this dreaded masquerade. They need us.” He suddenly chuckled, finding War’s imprudence rather amusing. “I will not release you as of now. Until, that is, you swear your alliance to me.”

Nemisis watched Hades pace, and the only thing he could do was draw a thin, sly, smirk. When he asked what he would rather be referred to, Nemisis released a laugh and said, "Oh my boy...You should know by now...I would much prefer you call me 'Lord' or 'Master'...Indeed, had my plan not failed and had your sister not foolishly had me locked away, there would be a new Lord of Hell." He let out a laugh and said, "I had Lucifer eating out of the palm of my hand Hades! THE PALM OF MY HAND! Had God not been a fool and ordered for my imprisonment, his enemy would have been defeated long before he could rain his chaos upon the mortals...But no, my plan failed..." He huffed slightly, and then silenced himself.

When Hades began to speak he responded saying, "My servitude? My loyalty? On any other offer, I would have you killed Hades, with or without my might...But the prospect of bringing chaos and despair to those humans who banished me to Hell, so long ago is ever so delicious..." He smirked viciously and said, "Very well then Hades, I declare to you, my service...Such as it is...In exchange for my liberation..." He looked into Hades' eyes with that same, almost hypnotic gaze of his, and said, "Yes Hades...You have my alligence, now...Release me...From my prison..." The pressure in the room began to increase, to the point that the structure appeared to be starting to shake.

“Impatience, impatience, that’s what foiled your plans.” Hades admitted, a reserved chuckle rolling out from the back of his throat. While other beings which had learnt to respect one another, to hold their tongues and keep their lips pursed, Hades had not. Souls did not mind being bluntly insulted; they were too caught up in their own preoccupations to notice. Their judgment was to come. It was in this process were Hades would review their life. Had they made one, most terrible mistake, they would be cast down into the fearsome pits of Hell, a worse punishment than waiting in Purgatory. But, had they been a kind and generous soul, which most had not, they would freely enter the reigns of Heaven and would bask in everlasting light. He rolled his ivory eyes. If they only knew what lifestyle awaited them, they would much rather pick Hell over the bitter paradise.

Clothes shifted as Hades brought a delicate hand up in Nemesis’ direction, “Solvo liberatio.” His voice demanded, bouncing off from wall to wall leaving behind a void sensation. The chains which had withheld the beast shuddered and began to uncoil, clattering on the charred floor before dissolving into nothingness. Understandably, he knew what Nemesis was bound to do, go and wreck some havoc in the world. Fill their hearts with hatred, turn brother against brother, and shatter lover’s affection. He could rise nation against nation and cause self-destruction. It would be understandable. But would he do it? He thought not. He would most likely just wreck some havoc before turning to Letum, the creature which left him in that position.

A foil in his plan? He thought not.

“Before I return your weapons, however, promise me this: Letum you will not meet at the time. You will not engage in a fight. You might be the strongest of Riders, my dear War, but against Death incarnate, you are nothing.” He remained silent for a while, motioning to the exit before he walked out the door. As he did, however, the orange hue of vibrant flames hit him, causing him to narrow his eyes. Another soul had entered his realm. He would take care of her later on. “…My dearest Letum is not a woman who takes kindly to traitors,” he continued, leading war through the intricate halls of his realm. “because of that, even you and I should be weary of her powers. She can destroy us, if that is what she wants, make us reach forever slumber, or to be trapped, just like you were before.” He chuckled. Trapped? Now wasn’t that an impossibility?

capture me? ;; ____ >> madness

Sultry steps followed one another, leading the collector of souls deeper into his realm. He would give War his weapons and his powers, both which had been stored away in the Netherlands of his terrain. It would then, and only then, that he would bring himself to tell Ganosa of the Rider’s standing. Two other riders would come before Letum, of that he was sure, but it would be then that their triumph over God would be stated. No more would they follow such selfish being. No more would they live under his altruistic façade. It would be now or never.

The Apocalypse was at hand.

Not a minute had passed since the thoughts had clouded his thoughts, that his otherwise graceful footing faltered. Looking through the thin shower of red hair, he found himself staring at three floating figures: the first two were easily recognizable as War's weapons, the third was a bit more difficult to decipher. Hovering close to the floor was an orb, red in color, with an aura similar to that of Nemesis.

"There they are, like promised."

Nemisis chuckled lightly as he said, "Perhaps you are correct, I was too hasty, I did not plan things out well enough, didn't hide my schemes well enough...Oh well, what's done is done. 1900 years is nothing compared to the rest of my lifespan. No big loss." When his chains were finally shattered, the first thing he did was hold his left wrist in his right palm. Looking down at his hands he said, "It feels good...To have free movement of my limbs. It's been a long time." He stretched his arms out wide for a moment and then said, "Now then...About my toys..." When Hades led him from the cell, he stopped for a moment at the door, peering around, watching the various lost souls wandering this labyrinth, waiting for their judgement, some looked terrified, some looked confused, and other's, those whose flesh had already melted from their bodies, their opinions on this place were unknown.

Eventually, Hades led him to a vast wasteland, and there, before him, was the most beautiful sight he had ever seen. On the right, a massive sword, similar to a butcher knife, his sword, aptly named, War. On the left was what at first glance, looked like a long, metal snake, whose edges were thin and sharp, this one, was called Despair. Finally, in the center, was the red orb, roughly the size of a basketball. Nemisis smiled wide as he approached them. First, he placed his hands on either side of the orb and pulled it towards him, pressing it lightly against his chest. As charred chest and red orb grew closer, what could only be described as a glowing hole appeared at the point where it pressed against his blackened skin. In a few moments, it was gone, and War's aura seemed to grow stronger. He stared at his hands, a smile on his face.

Next, he reached for the sword, and once he grasped the hilt, it two gained the aura. Slowly, as if basking in every movement, he placed the sword on his back, as if there was a sheath there, though it seemed to merely attach to his skin.

Last but not least, he reached his left hand out, and as if it was alive, the chain wrapped around it slowly, digging it's blades into his glowing symbols. The end of the chain stood up, like a snake and it's tip faced Nemisis' face. At this moment, his insane look was replaced by one of tenderness, as he reached his free hand up and stroked the chain, which reacted instinctively by letting out a small sound which was like a squeak and a growl intertwined. As it purred to his touch he said, "Did you miss me all this time? Despair...My love..." Without turning to look at Hades he spoke saying, "It has been far too long since we were last together...Despair was growing lonely...Tell me Hades, did you not come to visit him? He needs constant attention you know..." He smiled softly, but this smile slowly turned into a frown as Despair lowered down to coil around his body.

Once this happened, he spoke once more, though his voice was now cold as he said, "You know Hades...We could have been a formidable team, you, your sister and I, I mean...But I'm afraid...What happens now, must be done...I am a free spirit, it is not healthy for this daemon to be chained to anything...Nor is it healthy for me to 'serve' anyone...And so...I'm sorry...For what has to happen..." Despair had be slowly slithering from his body, and as soon as it touched the grown, it changed color to match it, like a chemeleon. It slithered across the ground, and finally rose up tall, behind Hades. With a flash of steel and red, the next second, Despair, the Living Chain, was sticking about a foot out of Hades chest, covered in fresh blood, which dripped slowly to the ground, making a puddle.

As Nemisis turned around to face Hades, his face had regained his psychotic smile. Slowly, Despair exited Hades' body and returned to Nemisis' side. With that smile still upon his face he said, "I'm sorry, that I had to betray your trust...Insolent fool..." Suddenly, he turned on the spot, as if doing a ballet dance, and instantly vanished, teleporting away from the realm.

“Ungrateful b*****d” Hades spat, eyes following the chain on his chest all the way to War’s arm. “…after having liberated you, this is how you pay me back?!” He gritted his teeth, baring them lightly, eyes growing unfocused as he stared at the man. It was true that he could not feel pain of any sort, his body did not permit it, but even then he could feel as the chain had punctured his spine, lungs, muscles, and chest-cavity and continued to slither while within him. He coughed, blood suddenly starting to filter into his lung, making breathing not only uncomfortable, but also extremely difficult. Suddenly, the chain pulled back, making Hades moan in pain, before he doubled-over, hands resting briefly against the ground. “You will die doing this…”

“You’ll die”

Funny. It was rather funny how he didn’t seem to feel, not even then when he lay in a pool of his own blood. He lay still, eyes glazed over, lips lightly parted as he stared at the ceiling above. He was dead, or anyone who saw him would believe, as they watched his gorgeous robes, porcelain skin, and fiery red hair, slowly being drenched and consumed by the warm, thick liquid. His body grew numb, the outer part of his gaze growing hazy and dim. His head spun, his muscles ached, and a sudden heaviness invaded him. As his eyelids grew heavier, he swallowed hard, picking up a shaky hand as he pressed it hard against his chest.

Sucking at his teeth slightly, he attempted to get up on her hands and knees, but his body soon gave, making him crash into the once clean floor. ”I’m sorry I had to betray your trust…” The voice reverberated through his mind, forcing Hades to lift his eyes with difficulty. ”…Insolent fool…” As War vanished, off to cause some form of chaos, Hade’s head dropped to the floor. It suddenly had become very difficult to breathe. His muscles clenched and released, sending his body into some form of convulsion. Death was terribly painful. His muscles clenched a final time, forcing his back arch and his head to be pulled back. His lips parted, frozen in a silent scream. His body relaxed a final time, his dull eyes fixated on the spot War had once been.

Thump, thump.

Thump.

Thump…

Silence.

‘Is he dead?’ Curious souls whispered to one another, pulling out from the shadows to see what this whole commotion had been about. Originally they had believed that some poor soul had met its end. However, as their curious frames took them deeper into Hades’ realm, their eyes saw what not even an eternity could make them forget: sprawled on the floor was the graceful lord, seemingly dead. ”Someone, go check” If that were the case, and Hades was indeed dead, it would only mean that no one could stop their ascension to Heaven.

They fumbled, pushed one another, arguing with hushed voices as if the lord was doing naught but sleeping; finally, one unfortunate being stumbled forward and nearly collided with the shape. ’Go on’ He was urged by the others as he sat on his knees, a trembling hand closing to Hade’s lips. Nothing. He didn’t feel the eager rush of breath. He pressed his decaying head against the deity’s chest and closed his eyes listening. Nothing. Not a heartbeat, he truly was dead. Sitting back up, he turned to the others and freely waved his hand. ’He’s dead! We can leave now! He’s de—“ Hades’ twitched. The soul’s eyes widened as he felt the body move, head slowly turning to see the lord once more. The souls, surprised by the sudden movement scattered.

Hades’ shoulders shuddered; his chest thrust into the air, muscle’s slowly regaining their mobility and testing it with the quick movement of his fingers. Suddenly, with a heaving gasp, the man sat up, blood pushing past his lips. He coughed, more blood spurting through as he tried to clean out his air passage. As he recovered his breathing, Hades slowly lifted his head, blood dripping heavily from his lips, unto his chin, and down his neck. “My dear War…” he started, pushing his frame to a stance. “…You are still under my grasp. You are doing exactly what I wanted, even if it didn’t follow my original plan…” Tasting the metallic liquid, he furrowed his brow, hand reaching up to unsuccessfully clean his lips. “…But no matter, it all worked in the end.” He disrobed and walked to his inner temple where he would later bathe and change clothes.

War reappeared moments later on a grassy hilltop, in the distance there stood a city. Not any city, the city of Beijing, China. It was also the home of the Olympics which were currently underway, though this fact meant little to nothing to Nemisis. Ironically, he had appeared on a hilltop which was home to a parking lot, and in this parking lot sat one car, and a young Chinese couple. Since Nemisis wasn't invisible at the moment, they instantly took notice of him. He let out a soft chuckle saying, "Good to be back in the mortal world...Yes...Yes...This shall be a good place to begin...Now...What shall I do?" He reached up, tapping his chin lightly as Despair rose up to look over at the couple, and suddenly, the tip opened into what looked like a split-chinned mouth with each section lined with razor sharp teeth, with a single red glowing snake eye in the center, it released a hissing sound at the couple, who instantly looked in fear and jumped in their car to take cover and to get away.

Nemisis didn't bother to look over at the couple, instead he simply said, "Despair...Fetch..." With that, the chain changed color to match and pavement and slithered off to behind the car. While the man in this couple desperately tried to start the vehicle, that's when he saw it in the rearview mirror, Despair. In a flash, the living chain launched through the windshield and grabbed him by the back of the head, instead of pulling him back through the rear window, it launched through the front and pulled sharply to the right towards Nemisis. When it did this, it caused the roof of the car to be torn off and thrown off to the side. The young woman who still sat in the car, watched in horror as her boyfriend was held aloft in front of Nemisis.

With a smirk on his twisted face, Nemisis said, "Don't worry boy, I only need a moment of your time...Now then..." He closed his eyes and focused. In his mind's eye he saw a flash of images, but the most prodominate one was from a movie this young man must have seen, it was the image of a huge explosion, a massive explosion of epic size. Nemisis slowly opened his eyes and said, "Thank you young man...That's all I needed..." Suddenly, Despair whipped the man through the air by his head violently, with such power that his head actually detached from his body, which fell to the ground and rolled down the hill. He tossed the head after it and said, "Now then..." Lifting up his arm, he levitated the car with the young woman still in it, and smirking he said, "Good bye..." With that, the car suddenly flew through the air, the girl screaming at the top of her lungs as it went.

As soon as it was directly over the city, there was suddenly, a violent, nuclear explosion, which engulfed the entire city. Moments later, he manifested a phone in his hand and lifted it to his ear. Suddenly, his voice took on that of what appeared to be a representative of the Chinese government, he even had the language down. He spoke with a panic, saying, "GET ME PRESIDENT RIGHT AWAY!" As he spoke, a smirk grew on his dark face.

Insistent noise.
A nuisance among silence.
An irritating genocide;
a provocation.

It was hell, it had to be.

Everything had dimmed down throughout the city. It had happened, the end had finally happened. The explosion had left countless of lives destroyed and the city in ruins. And despite the human’s desperate attempts to save what was left of their city, all had been in vain. There had been no happy ending to this sad story of hope.

As she started forward searching, although she wasn’t sure as to what, she heard a light, raspy voice calling out to her. Turning to the voice’s origin, she saw a pale face and a shock of pale hair, a young man covered in rubble up to his neck. For a moment, and he always hated this moment, she thought about going in her way and leaving the man behind. The mere fact that he could see her was a death sentence on its own. She didn’t know why she felt a need to do the next thing, but when she saw the pleading look in the man’s eyes, she started in his direction. With a heavy grunt, she rolled the rubble off of his frame, sliding down to her knees next to him.

“I’m going to die, aren’t I?” She could see that it was a teenager now, barely out of high school.

The question was direct, honest. He wasn’t looking for any sense of false hope, but rather, a confirmation of what he already knew. His gravely tone already had a tone of acceptance. It was a real pity that she couldn’t have met the boy under different circumstances, she might have liked him. “Yes.”

He smiled, a soft, pained smile, and she couldn’t help but hope that he was quickly judged and taken into Heaven. “Are you here to take me?” Reaching a hesitant hand, she brushed a bit of dirt off of his face. He looked at her, with unfocused brown eyes. “You are an Angel?” With a slow sad smile, she nodded her head and stared at him for a minute longer. “I am the Angel of Death.” For a moment, she felt like he was attempting to etch her face into memory, the last face he would ever see. “Thank you.” They sat there in silence for a few minutes longer, as his breath evened out and his lips fell apart. “Rest now.” She raised her hand, a sword appearing on her hand, and a drop of clear liquid dangled from the tip. It dropped unto his tongue, and a light engulfed his body. The soul moved on to its judgment.

Death was an eventuality of life; she knew that better than anyone else. That was the curse of having this power, being unable to see past the expiration date on every creatures’ heart. “Goodbye.”

“Nostra era Letum supervenia ”

With a loud crack of bones and the sound of flesh stretching and being torn, twelve wings came to view. From their origin, they were a light flesh in color, equaling Letum’s own back, but as they distanced themselves from their origin of birth, the wings became a dark, charred charcoal color. With uneasy cracks and pops, the wings were tried and stretched as it had been a long time since they were last used. She rose to the air, moving quicker than time itself, visiting all dying creatures and dropping gull into their lips.

After the explosion, chaos had spread out like wildfire. It seemed that this sudden outburst of violence did not have natural-or human-beginnings. She knew who had done this, she knew this well enough. But, in order for this to have occurred, her dearest brother had to be involved.

Nemisis, in the meantime, was busy, the first phase of his plan was complete, this would keep dearest Letum busy for a time, and give Nemisis time to flesh out his plots. The second phase was well on it's way to completion. Nemisis had traveled to the distant city of Hong Kong in an instant, and found himself standing, unseen, behind a couch, where a Chinese family of four was watching one of these strange, box shaped devices, they seemed to transmit information to the general public, truly, there had been quite a few advances in the past 1900 years. On the screen was a young Chinese woman, sitting in a helicopter which was flying over the ruins of Beijing, a microphone in her hand. She spoke,

"I'm here now hovering over the ruins of Beijing, which was devestated by a surprise nuclear assault. It is unclear exactly who is responsible for the first nuclear attack since Nagasaki, but a source within the government tells us that the most likely suspect currently is the Russians, who are remaining steadfast in their argument that they are not responsible for this act of butchery, citing such sources as the Geneva Convention and reminding the international community of Russia's strong opposition to nuclear energy following the Chernobyl incident. President Hu Jintao, luckily were not in Beijing at the time and were on a mission of goodwill to the United States, welcoming their new president into office..."

The woman continued to yammer on for a while, until finally, Nemisis found the need to leave this place and get Russia to fall in line. Turning the spot, he vanished, and sure enough, the family was certain they had seen something out of the corners of their eyes, but shrugged it off and returned to their televisions.

Mere moments later, Moscow, Russia. Nemisis teleported directly into a large room, similar to the presidential office in the White House, though on the floor, etched into the rub was a large, golden image of Lenin, even today, the hero of the lower class, the founder of Soviet Russia, was still found all over the country...Return of the U.S.S.R. indeed. Behind the large, brown desk sat a thin, balding man in a black suit, Vladimir Putin. Nemisis wasted no time leaning behind this man who would make a fine puppet, and place his hands on his shoulders. He would be unseen by the Russian President, but his words would be absorbed, "You will take responsibility for the nuclear attack...You shall declare war on the Chinese...In this way...You will do God's work...You will return Russia to it's former glory...You will declare the return of the Soviet Union...You will rise again..." With that, Nemisis stepped back, and once more, vanished for parts unknown.

Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip. The gentle splash of water hitting naked skin. An angry hiss followed, the water that had fallen to the ground meeting its end as it boiled and evaporated into the air. Drip. Drip. Drip. Heaving lightly as firery strands of red hair clung to his pale face, Hades lifted his gaze lightly, eyes studying the vapor that rose through the air. It really was worth it, was it not? That is, leaving behind everything he had known in order to pursue a greater dream. He didn't know the answer, even less, he didn't know the origin of the question. All he knew was that the User ImageApocalypse was just around the corner and that with the return of War it would occur quicker than they had originally planned. Eyes traveling to the right, he saw a little bowl and in it he found a sponge and several perfumes. He took it, lightly patted the wound that had begun to close, washing away the dry blood which clung to his skin.

"Hades!" He froze, hands still traveling across the wound. "Hades!" Oh my, it seemed that his dear Letum had just figured out what had occured. He dropped the sponge, rinsed himself once more, before he strode out of the bathing room. "Hades!" The angry, feminine voice rung in his ears as the deity pulled a green robe up his arms. "Hades!" He chuckled closing his eyes, hands sneaking towards the delicate sleeves and pulled them over his shoulders. "My, oh my! Someone isn't in a good mood..."

"...isn't that right, Letum?" He turned on the spot, deadly eyes falling unto the delicate silhouette of a woman. He smiled lightly, finding his sister's dreadful glare to be highly amusing. "Oh my! What ugly glare!" He added with a chuckle, hands flicking the wet hair over the robe. "Hasn't anyone told you that you would look better if you smiled every once in a while?" The only response, her cupid lips turned into a frown.

"What have you done?!"

Her eyes narrowed down, head lowered as she gritted her teeth. Was her brother honestly that stupid?! Had he actually liberated Abdul Nassar in a desperate attempt to reach his plans? A knot formed in the back of her throat, making it difficult for her to breathe, much less speak. She heard Hades chuckle and watched him turn to her once again. "What have I done?" Another chuckle, one which made her blood boil. "I've only done what was necessary to carry on with the plan, Letum. I only did what was necessary."

Sure enough, it was two Earth days later when Putin came on television to make his announcement,

"The decision of the Russian Parliament is unanimous, as president of the great nation of Russia, I hereby declare that we shall be renamed the United Soviet Socialist Republic. It has already been decided that I shall be declared the Vice Chairman of the New Soviet Union. My first act under this title, shall be to declare war on our neighboring Communist state, The People's Republic of China..."

This message was played on television screens around the world. Some people began proclaiming that the world was coming to an end. Others were demanding that the United States and United Kingdom go to China's aid. One thing was certain, the third world war was on the horizen, and nothing could stop it. As countries of Eastern Europe, Asia, The Middle East and Africa began to choose sides, Britain and the U.S. remained neutral, despite pressure from their allies to pick who they would fight for.

Abdul-Nasser himself was busy watching the various news reports, not bothering to use a remote to change the channel, instead, simply blinking and changing them. He was sitting in a rather run down apartment building in New York City, in the corner behind him, were the corpses of several people, four young men, obviously roommates of this residence who had mistakenly gotten in War's way. After a few minutes he rose from his seat and said, "Now...For the next stage of my plan..." Rising from his seat he once more turned on the spot, only to reappear seconds later in the United States presidential office.

It was mere moments before he had delivered a similar message into the ear of the U.S. president. Once more, he stepped back, and vanished. But this time, he did not appear in an apartment or the office of a world leader.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The United Nations headquarters in New York City was very busy today. Delegates from the world, screaming and arguing. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was banging his mallet on the podium before the hundreds of screaming delegates, he was desperately trying to maintain order, but to no avail. Finally, he let out a great bellow, sick of this arguing, "SILENCE! I DEMAND SILENCE!" Immediately, the delegates fell quiet, waiting for their Secretary General to speak and direct them. He spoke saying, "We are here to maintain order in this world, and peace, and that is what we will do. I propose peace talks between Russia and China, and some sort of punishment for Russia for breaking the rules of the Geneva Convention, and the destruction of Beijing..." Immediately, the delegates began arguing again.
That is, until there was a flash of light, and behind Ki-moon, a purple, swirling vortex opened. The wind gushing from the vortex instantly caught the crowd's attention and they all turned their heads to watch as the pitch black, glowing figure stepped forth. Nemisis sneering face was fixated on the horrified crowd before him. As he approached the podium he said, "Mr. Secretary General, if you would allow me to take the podium..." Not so much out of respect, but out of fear, Ban Ki-moon stepped aside in terror. Nemisis nodded respectfully to him and placed his hand around the microphone, it immediately turned black and gained the same, glowing scars that covered his body, the podium soon followed. He leaned forward and spoke, Despair still snapping and hissing, not liking the number of people around it, "Delegates of the world...I give you my greetings...My name is Abdul-Nasser Hadad, but you may call me by the names Nemisis, or War...I am a Horseman of The Apocalypse..." He pulled the microphone out of the podium and stood up straight saying, "I am sure your wondering why I'm here...Well it's quite simple really. For eons you have been told that when the Apocalypse comes, the Horsemen shall appeared before your eyes...This does not mean all at once, nor does it mean we shall be riding together across the skies...I am the harbinger of the end! And so look upon me, ye mighty, and despair...Doom has come to your world...And now, I command you...FIGHT!" He through his arms out to the side as he screamed, immediately, the walls became dark, covered in his scarring, and the delegates once more, began to argue with one another. As Nemisis vanished, he yelled out, "SUFFER, FOOLISH MORTALS! I RELISH IN THE CHAOS!" With that, he was gone, the only ones left in the room who weren't arguing was Ban Ki-moon and the camera men.
“You betrayed us!” Letum growled through gritted teeth, twelve wings tearing through the thin skin of her back with a short spurt of blood. She crouched down, sword materializing in her hand before she blasted forward with a single beat of her wings. Metal screamed as its attack was cut short, sending sparks of light flashing through the air. ”I only did what was done to me…” Hades’ hot breath burnt against her face before they pushed apart, and the siblings were sent skidding to opposite sides. Letum straightened up, swung her sword down, air screaming as the sword cut through it.
“You disappoint me, my sister…” She heard Hades taunting with a chuckle, his eyes scanning her with cold depravation. “I thought you’d be smarter. I thought that you would at least have some common sense and realize that what I was doing was for the betterment of the world, of those who you do not want to harm.” His smirk slowly widened, causing Letum to shake with genuine anger. Never before had she felt this anger, this, this rage! It was almost as if she wanted to rip Hades apart, limb by limb, and keep on doing this for the rest of eternity. But she quickly decided against it. Instead, she rearranged her grip on the sword and pelted in Hades’ direction.
Again metal met metal as Letum’s sword connected with Hades’ mirror. She gritted her teeth, pushing hard against the sword’s weight in order to make him back away, but no avail, he didn’t so much as budge. The two parted for a second time, though this time Letum managed to strike Hades’ shoulder. She smiled, eyes narrowing down dangerously as her twelve wings seemed to crackle with glee.
“You, my brother, will have to pay for what you have done.” She cautioned, her vowels dripping heavily with venom. She raised her hand, preparing to deliver a full-blown attack, but before she did, Hades raised his hand, motioning for her to stop. She did.
“It seems that this punishment will have to be pushed back, seems like your friend has already engaged in his own masterpiece…” He picked up his mirror, spun it in his hand, before it revealed a familiar, if slightly deformed, face shinning through. "SUFFER, FOOLISH MORTALS! I RELISH IN THE CHAOS!" The mirror was spun once more and it now reflected the ongoing chaos as the delegates fought together and the now missing Abdul.
“b*****d…” she growled, eyes lifting momentarily to glower at Hades before she turned her back to him. “This is not over. You will pay.” With that, she vanished, reappearing momentarily before Abdul. “What do you think doing?” she growled in a deadly-calm voice.
Nemisis had left the U.N. headquarters by the time Letum showed up, he was now standing amongst what appeared to be ancient Babylonian ruins, but the entrance had long ago been torn away, this ancient structure, this tomb, this was where Abdul-Nasser, along with so many other ancient criminals had been mummified and locked away, and this, was where his mortal remains once lay, until those idiotic cultists in Greece desicrated his resting place and tore his soul asunder. Ironic, that his own personal conflict would occur here, 30 miles north of Baghdad, on the spot where he died long ago. He heard Letum appear behind him, but did not bother to turn around just yet. This did not stop him from peering up at the blue sky, and the shining sun, and then back down at the ruins, half buried in the desert sands. Finally, he spoke saying, "I was innocent once dearest Letum...Long ago...Before I discovered that taboo called Dark Magic...I was a boy, a child, just like every other person in this world...I did not yet know how cruel the world could be...I knew only, the beauty of Babylon, the sun shining off the Tigris at sunset, and setting over the Euphrates..." He chuckled a bit, as Despair coiled around him, purring lightly, as if feeling sorry for it's master, "But...I was foolhardy...I flew too close to the sun on wings of wax...And so I plummeted...My experiments went too far, even I knew it...Somewhere in that body of mine, I think...I even...I knew I deserved my punishment, and had made peace with the fact that God would punish me for them...I was ready to accept my fate and take up my rightful place in Hell..." He sighed and turned to face her, his face was not implanted with that same insane smirk, instead, it was a frown, almost a look of...Regret.
He now faced Letum completely and continued, "It was on that day...The day I was beheaded...The day I accepted my punishment...That I first lay eyes on you and your dear brother...You looked so strange to me as I was ushered onward to Hell, as the rest of us were tormented translucent souls, you two were whole, and clean...You were so strange to me..." He chuckled a bit, reaching up to pet Despair and then say, "I saw you two again, as those cultists tore my soul from Hell, dragged me through Purgatory, and back to Earth..." He stopped as a gust of wind kicked up some sand and seperated the two, the tattered remains of his robe blowing in the breeze.
He spoke once more, "And then, we finally met face to face on that faithful day...I don't know if it was you, or God who sent the old Nemisis to find me, but I learned so much from him...By a strange twist of fate, if you had come yourself...I would most likely be known as Death right now...Not War. He taught me so much about that world, he was fascinated by my understanding...And when his guard was down..." He grew quiet for several moments and finally said, "...I destroyed him." He grew very quiet once more and stared at Letum, saying, "Tell me, dearest Death...Before the battle to end all battles which is sure to come at any moment finally arrives...Tell me...From one Daemon to another...Why did they send Nemisis? Why the Horseman of War? Why was it not you that came to find me on that day?" He asked this while maintaining his facial expression of some regret.
Like sunlight, the gleam of her eyes faded and darkened with the quickly advancing clouds that signaled the inevitable storm. Its ominous approach was only hastened by the hurling winds that seemed to dictate the tempo of life, determining when humanity should prepare for disaster or rest easy with fortunes. Amber eyes narrowed at the unpleasant prospect of having to face Abdul-Nasser, a creature that she seemed to loathe beyond what was normal. Slowly, she retreated from the ruins where she stood and turned to look at the creature for the first time since her arrival.
“It’s been a while since anything has bothered with these ruins” Her tone was remorseful, if a little disappointed for the creature’s decision to come here in the first place. With a quick sweep of her hands, a small gust of wind brushed past the broken-down domes, clearing the dust from their spines and spreading it evenly about the city remains. With the dust cleared, her eyes began to snap onto the walls, looking for anything of particular interest, yet, she found none.
“You ask one too many questions, Abdul. Some of them not meant to be understood, neither by you nor I.” Her voice was cool, collected, void of all emotion or natural curiosity. In fact, the only thing that seemed to permeate through her perfect, unemotional mask was a burning hatred that shone through her eyes. A rueful smile graced her lips as she faced the creature once more. Her mind shifted into unsettling territory – sending a chilling sensation down her spine. It was such a familiar feeling of unadulterated fear that it still froze her heart at every mention of it. Her eyes momentarily glazed over with an introspective gleam – providing her with an eerie aura of being half there. ”Not yet... I can’t start this as of yet…” Perhaps now it would be time to end a long-prolonged duty. It was time to bring death to this daemon.
“Just tell me, Abdul,” she coolly began, a small step taken forward as she folded her arms across her chest, “do you feel any remorse for what you’ve done? Do you feel any remorse for having betrayed your God?” Her lips curled into a gleeful grin, yet her eyes reflected all but the former. In fact, the question itself was pronounced with some sort of animosity making it difficult to read. “Can’t answer? Well, allow me to ask this instead…”
“…are you ready to meet your end?” Silence reigned supreme and was marred only by the gentle scuffle of grass being teased by the wind. “You have been weight, measured, and found unfit for the duty. You have been judged and the God whose trust you dared to sever has given me orders. You will be returned to Purgatory and be left there until the flesh rots off your still living body. You will be stripped of your powers, your weapons destroyed, and no sign of what you have done will be left behind. You will not be War or Nemesis, you won’t even be Abdul-Nasser, you will only be a nuisance that will be quickly brushed away. Unless, that is, you return quietly and undo all damage you have created.”
