Faster...faster.....

Juude streaked across the countryside, over the streams that swarmed with fireflies in this dusk atmosphere; across the fields of long prarie grass that swayed softly under the appearing stars glow. His paws thudded on the terra like the beat of drums; drawing the large lumbering male towards his goal....Amarii....was she still waiting for him?

It had been more than a week's time; the birthing of Bindi's pups required him to stay and help rather than to meet upon their agreed time. Oh would she ever be able to forgive him - or was it that his change had already come and gone?

No...she couldn't had left already to some far off lands; Juude just wouldn't believe it!

Well, you did tell Amarii that you would be one week, Juude. Female's don't like to be kept waiting... Johab spoke, his angelic guardian forever trapped inside the mind of what he so fondly thought was a 'blithering idiot.' If the angel could roll his eyes he would have done so a hundred fold.

"I'm aware, dude....but I couldn' help it man! Not with the little wuffers and the pack all crazy like....How was I supposed to just jet?" The orange accented canine spoke up to himself; vibrant emerald orbs scanning the area around him feverishly for any signs of his beloved Princess.

Thats understandable....but its not like she knew that. If she gone then I am afraid that there will be nothing you can do other than respect that you were late on your word and she couldn't wait around.

"I know....but....I'd run to the ends of the earth to see her Johab dude. Y'know y'don't meet someone that radical everyday!" He smirked; his body aching as he urged himself to run faster.

Is that all it is....? Johab smirked in his mind, shaking his head before the large wolf gave a bit of a quizzical look; yet it was soon forgotten when that familliar willow tree came to view. The male stepped up the pace as he couldn't contain his excitement as he howled and yipped into the sunset eve.

"Amariiiiii! Amariiiiii! Dudette are you here???"

Time had passed and things had changed. Where Juude had become tied down with a litter of puppies, Amarii had found her sister missing and her mother on her way to a new land. Where the black wolf's life had found new members and a new place, Amarii had found herself in quite the opposite. Instead of gaining a new family, she had lost hers. . .

No, she didn't begrudge her mother happiness with Occam. It pleased her so that the black and red-hearted maleand Ravii had finally discussed what Amarii had known all along - they were in love and needed each other. Though the young white and pink stained femme had always looked at the large, heart-stained male as a father figure, at least now it could be official. And though Ravii had asked her to come, had assured her that she wouldn't be a burden, the golden eyed female found she couldn't leave. . . . Though it broke her heart to watch Ravii and Occam disappear, and though she promised to search them out and visit, the young wolfess just couldn't leave.

For starters, there was Alina. . . . She knew the general whereabouts of her brown coated sisters packlands and could visit as frequently as she liked. More than that though, she often thought of a different black wolf - one donned in gold and highlighted in orange. Though her prince had gone missing in action weeks ago, that didn't mean she couldn't forget him. . . .even if he had.

Oh, how the young wolf had looked forward to seeing her friend. That week had seemed to drag on forever, every minute passing slower than the first, and Amarii had frequented the spot where they were to meet long before the promised day. What if he happened to come earlier than expected? Or what if he just happened to cross by? And so, the young girl had stayed close to the area hoping upon hope to see Juude - never had her coat been so thoroughly groomed, never had her golden eyes glowed so bright with anticipation! From dawn until long past dusk, the white furred femme had waited . . . and waited. . .and waited. She dared not leave her position near the willow tree just in case she miss him, not for thirst, not for hunger, not for the world.

But as night had fallen, worry had set in. Her questioning and unreturned calls had turned in to a song of woe and bitter dread - he wasn't going to come. Though she waited another day - just to be safe - Amarii slowly came to the realization that Juude wasn't even in the surrounding area. Hell, he probably hadn't had any intention of returning, or so the mistrustful side of her soul snarled. . . .

And though it broke her heart to realize that her silly dreams and girlish desires had caused her to be played the fool, Amarii knew that it was to be expected. Males weren't to be trusted, not really, and though she had wanted Juude to be different it appeared as if that wasn't such the case. Yes, she did have abandonment issues after Eros promised to return and disappeared out of her life forever - she couldn't help but see that Juude had done exactly the same thing.

He had promised to see her again, to visit her at this very spot. . . and it never came to pass. Wretched how the world worked some times - truly wretched. As it was, despite her hurt and irritation, Amarii had done her best to forget about the black and orange tipped male. What was he to her anyway? Yes, she owed him her life, but apparently her importance to him was in no way, shape or form equal to her own. A pity really. . . she would have very much liked to have seen him again.

And so days had passed, and though Amarii told herself she wasn't hurt or offended or bothered she never left far from the willow. Just in case. It was on her return from the lake for a cold drink that this evening a strange voice called out to the world. She wasn't far from the willows, and there was something oddly familiar about the cry. . . . Pink ears pricked as she narrowed her gaze - what on earth was going on? Hastening her walk in to a trot, the young girl heard her named being called in an almost desperate way. . . .

Dudette? DUDETTE!? Oh, her heart fluttered for a moment as she realized that only one wolf in the world spoke in such colourful phrases! It couldn't be - but ooooh it HAD to be - JUUDE! Half-leaping out of the underbrush, the young wolfess dipped around the willows and found herself not even a hundred feet from where that large, black form stood. He had changed a bit, grown fully it seemed, just as she had.

Golden eyes bright, her tail began to wag faster and she leaped forward, a brilliant smile across her features. But then, she stopped, as if hit by a wall, and her expression shifted in to something less than pleased. Golden eyes narrowed as she remembered that it was he who promised to return, and it was he who had left her waiting without word. Though she was relieved to know he hadn't been hurt or killed, a new irritation set in.

Apparently she was only useful to him when on his own time and schedule.

Well hmph! She wouldn't be so easily swayed this time around. "Oh, I'm here," she responded softly, keeping a small growl out of her throat if only to be polite. Despite her glare, her hackles had raised defensively, and her tail swished back and forth not out of pleasure, but annoyance. Oh, the happiness she had so wanted to show him had been transformed in to anger.

Yes, she was mad, but mostly it stemmed from hurt.

She had been a foolish wolf to think he wouldn't be like Eros, but Juude's disappearance (for what reasons) had told her otherwise. Without knowing the story, she could only guess he had better things to do with his time. No, she didn't expect him to put her on any sort of pillar, hell - they'd only ever met once! But she had thought. . . .

Well, apparently she had thought wrong and let her imagination and hopes get the better of her. That wouldn't be a mistake she'd make twice. "What are you doing here?" She questioned, tilting her head as she sat, refusing to move closer.

A flash of ruby and ivory caught his sights as it emerged from the partially shadowed leaves of the hedges near the willow; oh it could be no other than his beloved femme friend! Grinning manically as his tail nearly blurred as it wagged in mach speed behind his rather poofy frame. She had stayed! Oh god was he so relieved that she was here! It sure saved him from running to the ends of the earth like he stated just moments ago from his counter ego. He almost wanted to yell with Joy that he told him so, but as he edged closer to pounce the femme he saw her smile fade from her lips; Johab had other ideas.

Slamming on the breaks as Juude soon found his forlegs frozen, the male let a yelp as he biffed it into the dirt; skidding to a near stop infront of the wolfess with a face and nose full of dirt. He had good mind to demand what the heck was going on and why Johab was being so bogus when he caught ear of the tone of Amarii's voice.

Why was she so....angry?

Flattening his ears as the lumbering brute rose to his shakey paws, a look of utter hurtful confusion drifted over his facial features. Had he really upset her this much for not arriving on time? He had an excuse - he couldn't just leave Bindi and Dax like that! The pack was still small and if any attack was to happen it could have been disasterous for the lives of the newborn pups.

Juude, Amarii is obviously unpleased with your tardiness. Now is not the time to be goofy for she is unlike Aeryn who just acts mad; Amarii's emotions are genuine. You need to express how sorry you are for being late. And if she wants to hear your reasoning then you give it to her. Understand? As much as Johab was irritable with Juude's lack of mental capasity to listen to him, he knew the wolf was genuinely good natured and really needed all the help he could get right now.

"Amarii..." His deepened vocals rumbled out, lowering his frame to the ground as he crawled a little closer to her. With siblings like his he knew what hackles meant - she was definately irked. Heeding Johab's advice for once he didn't let his lips spill out all the details of why he was late and why he was sorry and most importantly why it was killing him to see her be like this to him. No....he had to do this right or he was going to wish that he'd never found her to have her storm out of his life for good.

Juude cherished his family, pack and friends....they were the bounce in his step and the grin usually situated on his lips.

He couldn't even force himself to smile to save his life now.

"Dudette....I came as fast as my ol' paws could carry me, but aye see it wassn't fast enough. I'd totally fly if I had rad wings or something cool; yet i'm just....this." Casting a prolonged glance to his spine he regretted not having winged appendages; since then he would have been able to fly there and back in a heartbeat! Sadly; the packlands he ended up chosing was a long distance from here...hell it took him since dawn to get here in the first place. (And for once he didn't even get sidetracked!)

Inching a bit closer, the ebony male let his nose brush against one of her dirt brushed paws. He had been so excited to see her and tell her the news, he knew she would be happy then...all would be forgiven, right?

Females are a bit more difficult than that, Juude. You can see it in her eyes as well as I....she didn't think you were going to come back. How would you feel in her situation?

'Well....i'd be hella sad...'

Exactly Juude. Now can you see what i'm getting at? Johab tried to explain, seeing the gears beging to grind and move in the lerge male's mind.

He did get it....Amarii was mad that he broke his promise; and untill she wanted to hear what had happened she thought he had stood her up! Juude know he would never be tripping like that to pull such a bogus stunt; but they'd only met once and he blew their second meeting.

Looking up into her eyes as he tried to think of something that the refined Johab would say...the poor boy found himself blithering out the tongue he always used in these situations. "I'm here for you, Dudette! You've had me trippin' and wylin' ever since I rolled out of here! I know i'm late and thats totally lame and weak of me to have done that without lettin' ya catch word, Amarii....but....things went down! I won't tell ya if you dun' wanna hear it preached; but its a very good reason and I would never leave ya hung up for anything less!"

It wasn't working....she wasn't budging! This wasn't how it was supposed to roll at all, where was the yips of excitement and kisses and laughter....he couldn't even get another smile out of her irritable stoic expression. Why wouldn't she believe him, he'd done nothing other than be late to merrit it....

Biting his lip, the male was taken back by a rather salty taste touching his tastebuds; unaware of the tears which escaped till just now. He was...crying? When did that happen? Was it something that happened when he could feel like someone was slowly crushing his heart below their paw? No one ever wanted to lose a friend, but Juude couldn't remember crying over family long lost to distance and their own lives. Why Amarii? Why now?

Just tell her how you're feeling... The comforting and calm voice of Johab washed over his thoughts as the male tried his hardest to keep eye contact.

"Amarii....please be easy, Boo. I'll be straight up, my heart is achin' like something feirce....I'm sorry...so sorry for bein' late. Don't be mad.....please Dudette, don't be mad...." Juude whimpered, giving the paw a small nuzzle despite how much his nose hurt from tripping and doing a nose dive erlier.

Amarii watched as the black wolf slid to a halt before her. At least he'd manage to see that her mood was not all that receptive to seeing him again and she hadn't had to be so cruel as to n** or snarl. Though part of her truly wanted to believe that he hadn't just stood her up on a whim, another part of her couldn't trust so easily. She hated to let Eros have such a strong hold over her emotions and feelings, but she just couldn't shake what he had done. . . Even though she never had a chance to know her biological father, she could remember his face, she could remember his scent, and she could remember how much she had let herself love him. Such a hurt in a pup wasn't so easily healed.

Perhaps her anger might not have been allowed to fester had her mother not also left with Occam or had Mayrii been more present in her life. It seemed that everyone she had cared for had decided to find more importance in their life. . . and though she honestly couldn't begrudge them such a journey, her spoiled little puppy heart DID wish that somewhere she might be held high in someone's regard. Though she knew her mother adored her, she needed this time with Occam to heal and to be away from the lands which had originally broken her heart. And Mayrii had always been a bit of a ghost figure so that was no official change. Alina had her pack, and Juude his but. . . .

But he had promised~! He had told her that he would return in a seven's day time! And she had been so excited for it and for what? Nothing. He had stood her up. . . and though she was eternally grateful he had returned, part of her couldn't help but wonder. Their friendship hadn't been cemented long enough for her to put faith that he didn't do it purposely. . . . On top of it, she did know that sometimes he seemed a bit flighty with his colorful vocabulary.

But it still hurt.

Golden eyes stared cooly at the black wolf before her, her coat still puffed out in her annoyance. Ah - so now he was sorry for being late. And now he was blaming it on the fact that he had no wings? The young wolfess gave a small snort to show exactly how she felt about that excuse. Still, something in her heart tugged as he inched forward and brushed his nose against her paw. She almost jerked it back, but instead chose to keep her position sitting above him, ears slightly pinned.

He did seem a bit upset. . . And it wasn't beyond Amarii's grasp to catch wind that 'things went down'. Maybe, just maybe, there was a chance for forgiveness. It was true that life happened and he did have a much larger pack than she. . . . Still, it was hard to know if what he meant was genuine and sincere. Anyone could paint a pretty picture for forgiveness, but was what he said true?

And then, she caught it. His gaze shimmered with something more than just light - there were tears! Was he actually . . . .crying? Her ears prickedi n surprise and her hackles lowered as she stared down at him. He really did seem upset to see her this way. . . . and truly this couldn't be some farce!

Ooooh - she hadn't meant to make him cry! Though pride demanded she be angry, part of her didn't want to! This was, after all, Juude! He had been her prince charming, he had rescued her from a bear! How could she begrudge him such tardiness and compare him to Eros? Unlike her red furred father, Juude at least had managed to come back. "I'm not mad," she finally murmured, averting her gaze else she melt in to something as close to a mess as he.

She didn't like to see him cry, oh no! He was supposed to be happy, and this event was supposed to be a happy occasion. "Just. . . just hurt. I had thought - - - " She stopped, stealing another look at the wolf. Closing her eyes, she looked away and heaved a heavy sigh. "A lot of things have happened over here too," she admitted softly, carefully. "I had just thought that - well . . . well it doesn't matter now, does it? You're not like him, at least you did come back."

Her anger was fast dissipating as a new panic set in. She didn't want him to cry, not like this! He had said he had a reason for being so late, before she chewed him out or kept in her bitter assumptions, Amarii knew she should hear his reasons or excuses first. She could better judge him afterwards.

Besides, no male was perfect. And despite her broken heart for having been forgotten, to see him before her, she knew she had already forgiven him. Had it been any other wolf in the world, no, her wrath might have held on strong. And yet, for some reason she just couldn't stay mad at him! And oh, she wanted to be. . .. Very much.

But she couldn't, and to see him in such a state hurt her even more. "What kept you away then?" She questioned, reaching down to very lightly brush her nose against his tear stained cheeks. "I may be hurt but you don't have to grovel," she added in a lighter tone, a bit of humor entering her words to - hopefully - lighten the mood.

"I never meant to hurt ya dudette, never ever would I want to do that. I'd rather take the gnarliest of falls than to see your heart in any sort of pain. Physical is nothing compared to the hurt a dude could put onto a dudette. It just ain't right." He shook his head ferociously, a few of the tears falling off his cheeks as he sat up when she told him too. He'd have groveled till he blended with the dirt if he had to. Amarii was one of his few friends he'd ever made outside his pack and family...to lose her was to lose a bit of his soul.

Juude liked his soul in tact.

Smiling half heartedly, he lowered his head to wipe the rest of the tears off his face - he supposed it wasn't very manly to be crying, but hell, he didn't care. Amarii wasnt mad at him, and that was more important than any mocking word that anyone could throw at him. Not that he ever cared what others said about him.

"I dunno who you're chattering about Amarii....but if he's the kind of wolf that would leave ya mad and hurt; we're nothing alike. He's not a kind dude at all if he'd do something like that to such a amazing chicka like you." He beamed a goofy lopsided smile, dragging his body closer to nuzzle his head into her neck. It felt good to be back in her presence, and not in any danger like the last time they met!

Oh, right right! His reason.

"Shaw, only the most exciting of news Miss Amarii! Bindi gave birth to puppies! Four of them, crazy little'uns they are! Three dudettes and one radical dude! Two be lookin' like her brothers what with the sky theme pelts, one little lass is as pure as snow with some disturbin' wounds on her - at birth! Its weird to the maximum! And the little dude, well; he's sure something! Strange colours; none like Bindi and Dax I be tellin' ya. We all ain't sure where he got his pelt for sure! We had to make sure they made it through the first few days after the little white lass was a still birth! Dax saved her though; so the pack was on high pup alert since she's still such a small thing. Yet I think we're out of the woods now; she's doing a lot better!"

The large fluffy male became a bit bashful, lowering his ears as his tail curled around his hips. "....Thats why I kinda blew off our, well, date. You're amazing and so important to me dudette, but my pack is also my family....they take good care of me and I had to do the same; its the only way I can repay them for all they've done."

"I know she'd love you to come see them and her!" Juude wagged his tail as he looked partially down at Amarii; just not taking notice that he'd grown a lot taller and wasn't the same size as she like they were adolecents. Man, time could change freaky fast!

And soon you'll start to discover more things about being an adult that's different than when you two were younger. Johab spoke up, and Juude was almost able to see the smirk on his mental alter ego.

Pshaawww Dude. Amarii and I will always be close buddies, i'd never ask for anything more! Juude replied, before feeling Johab shake his head.

We'll see now won't we?

Weirdo. Thats what he was.

"Anyways....what have you been up to Amarii! You turned out even more beautiful than what I remember of when we were young..." The brute smiled, nibbling at her collarbones. Pink red and white....he'd become so fond of those colours and even the reds in the sunset and the white clouds had his thoughts drifting off to this brilliant hue'd wolfess before him.

Amarii listened to her friend a bit sullenly at first, unable to fully believe him. His absence, regardless how good an excuse it might be, he reminded her that she shouldn't put so much faith in to the male kind. Aside from Occam, what good were they? Eros had changed his mind about her mother and Mayrii and she in a fast moment; so if Juude had felt like he might do the same, well, could she really blame him?

Males were good at causing heart break. But as a friend and only a friend, she could forgive him. Maybe. If his excuse for ditching her was a good and valid reason! It was easy to be all talk. . . . ah, but then again, those tears had been real. He hadn't just made those up, had he? No, of course not, and he had admitted she was important. . . .

So that was good, too, wasn't it?

He wasn't just a phony or a fake, was he? Oh, she hoped not! Aside from Masque and Alina, he was one of her only friends! A new one, mind, but it was a friendship she did hope she could keep. So she listened attentively as he began to update her with news and, in essence, his reason for his delay. Any bitterness she felt at the large black and orange wolf was quickly washed away with the news of Bindi!

The desert rose a mama!?! Golden eyes went wide an an excited smile suddenly crossed her features. Any anger and irritableness presence was forgotten and she leaped to her paws, half-dancing around Juude excitedly. "Bindi's had puppies~!? No way!" Giggling and giddy with delight, Amarii could only wish upon wish that her mother was there to hear of such good news! "And four of them? Oh Juude, that's terrific news! I bet they're so sweet and little and cuuuuute~!" She couldn't help from swooning, imagining little Bindi puppers running around and causing mischief. Though she'd never met the father, she was certain they'd be sweet as flowers in a field and full of mischief!

Still, her delight paused as she realized that her own anger had gotten the better of her. It was one thing for her to have a legitimate reason to be upset with the male; but to be so cold to him when he had his own duties to attend. It was a harsh reminder that no, the world didn't revolve around her regardless how sometimes she wished it to be. For a moment her ears flattened, and she dropped her head apologetically, tail lowering against her flank. "Oh Juude," she sighed, averting her gaze in a bit of a shame. If she could have flushed pink she would have, and she quickly turned back to her friend. "I ... I didn't realize such a big event was on the horizon. You're pack is your first priority, and puppies are definitely a valid reason to drop all others activities. I . . . " Apologizing was not her strong point - it wasn't very often she was in the wrong (or so she frequently imagined) so it wasn't easy for the young femme to admit it. But the faster she said it - and hopefully he'd not think too poorly of her - the sooner they could move on with the news. "I'm sorry to have snapped at you like that. I guess sometimes I forget that not everyone's like . . . "

Eh, no reason bringing him up again.

It plum wasn't right. Giving herself a shake, as if to dismiss the bad taste of bitterness from her jaws, she turned back to her friend and looked up at him. Her tail wagged as he offered her a nuzzle, and nibbled on her coller bone. She received such attention with genuine delight, and giggled lightly at the sensation - it tickled in a way, but she wasn't used to being groomed or chewed on by any outside of Mayrii or Ravii. . . .

And since her sister had seemingly disappeared, and Ravii had headed off for a change of scenery with Occam well. . . .life had been exceedingly dull and boring as of late. She tried to keep in touch with Alina but it wasn't easy, and to be left on her own, all alone . . . well. . . . Amarii was NOT an antisocial wolf. She needed others around her more than she'd realized, and life hadn't been going quite as well as she'd liked.

Hunting wasn't easy all alone, and a shadow did not make a good conversationalist. Still, at least her friend had shown up and bore great tidings. She honestly couldn't be more happy for him.

"I'd love to come visit some day, soon as she'd be up to such a meeting. I haven't seen her since I was ever so small!" She giggled at the memory, remembering how Bindi had played with her puphood games without having to be 'such an adult'. The memory had been a good one and she'd tucked a place in her heart solely for the cream female. How the world changed, it seemed.

"Ah, but you're too kind, my dear sir!" She chuckled, golden eyes bright. "You've grown in to quite the handsome fellow yourself - and big!" She stood, canting her head lightly as she found her head barely reaching his shoulder when she stood. It wasn't fair. . . but, then again, princesses weren't meant to be big 'n' burly. They needed to be small for proper saving, wasn't that right?

Eyes bright, Amarii let her tail wag happily behind her. "There's been many changes over here, though none quite as exciting as puppies. My mother, Ravii, finally became mates with the wolf I consider more a father than . . . than you know who." She gave a soft snort but continued without a beat, "Occam and she left a while ago to head to where his pack is up in the mountains, and my sister Mayrii has also taken to her own devices. But I'm happy for all of them, truly I am - Mama needed a change, badly, and Occam treates her so well!" Chuckling slightly, the wolfess gave a little shrug, before adding, "Funny how your pack has gained new members, and mine has completely broken up! But such is the way of things, I suppose, right? So long as everyone's happy. . . "

And she was. Kind of. She missed her mother and sister and Occam something fierce, but she wasn't so selfish as to demand they stay just to please her. Oh no, especially not at the expense of their own happiness! Oh, sure, she could have gone to the mountains with him but something had made her stay. . . . . Something black and orange and gold and fuzzy. . . . but then again, to lose Alina would break her heart just as much, wouldn't it?

And to move in to the mountains with all that snow. . . .

No, no she'd rather risk living alone down in the woods she knew than to travel up north. Besides, her mother needed some alone time with Occam; that was what change was all about!
