Hi, welcome to my little profile page that will tell you a little bit more about the work I do, and one of my main interests.
I work for a small animal rescue organisation in the UK and have been there for approximately 6 years now. I have seen over 1000 animals come through our gates during that time, and until recently, I was the main publicist for the branch on the internet.
When I first volunteered for this branch, we had 15 dogs at the kennels and many of them had been there for many years because they had severe problems or were simply overlooked. Many people have visited the kennels, but I soon discovered that the branch did not have a website, nor anyone to set one up. So thats where I came in.
Since the animals were gaining extra publicising throughout the web, many more animals have found their forever homes.
Jake's Story
One little dog of whom I fostered, had a very poor start in his early life. His name was Jake, and he is a Labrador cross. He was found in a bin bag inside an industrial bin. Thankfully, someone found him, and he came to me as he was just 7 weeks old.
Through the website, a family several miles away had contacted their local shelters looking for a dog, but with no joy. Then they saw Jake on the internet and thought he was perfect! They drove the 200 miles north to us, after they had had their successful homecheck and instantly fell in love with him. Jake also got along with their dog Poppy and they soon became very good friends.
Poppy had been neutered, and so the adoption of Jake went ahead. Jake is now very much part of the family and has just passed his silver obedience award. His owners email me occasionally with updates about him and Poppy, which is really nice.
Since Sept 2007, I started to work for a non-domestic animal rescue centre, and again helped set up a website for them. With 2 of us working on it, its a bit hotch potch for my liking, and I hope that in time this will be sorted.
In March 2008, I was offered a part time job with them, so I naturally accepted wink So far, so good and I love it. Meg (the pony) is one of my favourites and I adore her. She's never going to be homed as her owners bequested her to the rescue centre (so I sponsor her instead).
I am also a university lecturer, and work part time.
Thanks for reading biggrin
