((This is a repost from my "home" guild, Buffy's Room, but I saw there was no thread for this topic yet, and thought it might be news-worthy for you guys, too.)

So apparently IDW is running a post-Season 5 Angel comic. I have issues 2 & 3, as that was all the local gaming store had in stock (and the comic shop didn't have it, my comic-shop-dwelling friend tells me). I ordered #1 on ebay, and I hope to receive it in the next 1-2 days.

So, stuff about the comic. It's a little difficult to figure out exactly what's going on, since I missed the first issue, but it seems that the whole region has been sent to hell, or something (a convenient way of explaining why Angel characters don't appear in Buffy Season 8, I s'pose), and it's a battle for human survival as various demon lords vie for power.

The Art
Cons - women are portrayed in a more traditional (read: mind-warpingly busty) fashion than in Buffy comics.
Pros - see above. wink But seriously, the art is rather gorgeous, and conveys emotions nicely. A variety of covers to choose from. Eye candy of both genders abounds, especially in #2.

The Words
Cons - Characterization seems a little...off. Not too bad in most cases, though certainly not as good as in Buffy (starting to sound like a broken record, I know, but it's true). It sort of reads like an alternate universe fanfic rather than Buffyverse canon.
Pros - Some of the expected snappy dialogue, some entertaining bits. Illyria seems the most consistent to her character in the television series. Angel seems to become an even darker character, though whether this eventually proves to be cool or annoying remains to be seen. Some interesting plot twists, though the overall effect of each new spin on a character piles up into something that should possibly be filed under "Cons," as it delves further and further away from the tv series.
